  1. If it is related to an excessive number of items, try selecting only one or two categories of issues at a time when analyzing and cleaning. If you can get through one thorough cleanup this way, the number of items for subsequent cleanups should be manageable even if you select all categories.

    Spam

Precisely. A few years ago, I happened to notice one of my addresses was spam free and checked with an ISP support guy I knew at the time. He said he knew about it and that at one time 4 digits was enough to cause most crawlers to pass over the string but that it seemed 5 or more was becoming necessary.

    Spam

Simple solution: Use a string of at least 5 numeric (I use more) in your address. After more than five years with spam filters turned off completely ... not one unsolicited e-mail.
  4. Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Toolbar Modify or create the entry: Name: LinksFolderName | Type: REG_SZ | Data: [set to a blank string] Open Internet Explorer and manually delete the Links folder. Reboot. To restore, enter Data: Links
  5. Did you ensure that the properly resized window was the last one you closed? The last to close sets the size for the next use. If that's not it, there are registry hacks that you can copy from various sites to set the size or you can do the following to reset to default: Close all instances of Internet Explorer. Run regedit. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Main and delete the value Window_Placement. Close regedit. If in doubt, save a copy of the value (using File > Export in regedit) before deleting.
  6. The problem with speed limiters is, in Canada, most of the highways are only one lane in each direction. To pass slow traffic, you either break the speed limit or wait until there's no oncoming traffic for kilometres.
  7. I'm not crazy about the first device but the second, the Otto Driving Companion, is OK. It's selling in Winnipeg and a few other cities because it warns you as you approach automated photo enforcement locations (speed limit and red light).
  8. Not that this helps solve the problem but, as near as I can tell, this is what happens: CCleaner says it's going to keep "glenn@news.google.ca" but is really referencing "glenn@news.google[1].txt". I go to the site and do something which replaces "glenn@news.google[1].txt" with "glenn@news.google[2].txt". Then I run CCleaner which wipes the cookie because of the [2]. I go back to the site and it gives me a new "glenn@news.google[1].txt" which doesn't contain my account info. This will be kept because it matches but if I re-enter my account info, it toggles to [2] and will be wiped again. If I do something else on the site, it may toggle back to [1] and be kept. Google News has used the "toggle" for some time. Hotmail seems to have changed to this system last month. Others may be doing the same.
  9. Possible explanation for some working and others not: Check C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Cookies before and after using a site whose cookies aren't recognized. Some sites seem to rename cookies as they update, i.e., the number in <username>@webaddress[1].txt increments [1] to [2] to [3], etc. or toggles [1] to [2] to [1] each session. You won't see this when the cookie is displayed in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files as Cookie:<username>@webaddress\ .
  10. After you set up Options > Custom > Custom Files and Folders to Clean, did you enable Cleaner > Windows > Advanced > Custom Files and Folders ?
  11. You're welcome. But it's a pain in the a**. Fortunately, it only seems to be necessary after some updates.
  12. This has been around for a while with minor variations. See http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=3272 & http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=3284 As noted in the second post above, I found that clearing all the cookies once seems to clear up the problem.
  13. Maybe in theory but, in several PC's, the first time I've cleared Prefetch I've found entries that are months old (often related to old software or one-time executables such as installers). Take a look first if you want to see what's accumulated ... C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch The stuff you're using regularly will get "refreshed" and show recent dates. Cleaner won't delete those so performance won't be compromised.
  14. Tarun, I think you may (almost) have it. CrAsH, did you used to have Start Menu > Customize > General > Small Icons ?
  15. CrAsH, I checked your screenshot by comparing the relative size of the Start Menu with the image of the Taskbar and the CCleaner Forum screen. The relative sizes appear to be exactly standard. I tried pinning 9 programs into my Start Menu and it becomes just as tall (proportionate to screen height) as yours. If something changed, it must be the screen resolution or (somehow) the Start Menu was not standard before.
  16. Maybe I'm missing something but what's weird? What changed ... the pinned programs? ... the number of most recently used programs? By the way, it's odd that CCleaner isn't in the recently used list.
  17. It's not new ... it was reported by others in 1.23. I had the problem in 1.23, didn't seem to have it in 1.24 or 1.25, and now have it again in 1.26. Just a thought, the way this seems to come and go with updates, could it be a bug in the installer?
  18. They could just be p***ed off about all the bad TV we've been radiating into space.
  19. Ultimate Predator, comicfan Sorry I wasn't clear. I was trying to find out if Ultimate Predator could tell from the Analysis Report what was remaining fragmented. There are special procedures to defragment some, e.g., the Pagefile. Also, if you need a specialty defragmenter, you'll want to know the problems it needs to handle.
  20. I just ran the built in Disk Defragmenter in Win XP Home Edition SP2 and got 0% total fragmentation on my hard drive. What's fragmented ... Files? (if so what type(s) are in the Disk Defragmenter > Analysis Report > Most fragmented files list?) Folders? Pagefile? MFT?
  21. I updated to 1.26.218 today and have the opposite problem ... only new cookies are offered in Options > Cookies. The ones that I had before the update don't show. If I select Cleaner > Windows > Internet Explorer > Cookies, and Analyze, it selects all (both new and old) for deletion. I cleaned them all out and went back to my Favorites. The new cookies show up in Options > Cookies and can be selected to keep.
  22. Did you deselect View > Toolbars > Lock the Toolbars and try to move the Address bar to another area of the toolbar? It may just be so far to the right that the field isn't visible.
  23. See http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=3276
  24. See http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=3040 & http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=1551 for a couple of possible explanations.
  25. I've used both the automatic Windows update and manual updates for over a year. I've never intentionally cleaned out my C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads. Total accumulation = 2 files for 50 KB in total. My understanding was that not clearing itself generally means something went wrong with an update.
