  1. What type(s) of connection are you using ... USB, IEEE 1394(Firewire), ethernet, E-SATA? EDIT: After the apparent crashes, did you try the drives on another PC? Also, what did you mean by "I had to take it to a place to get formatted to begin with because my laptop couldnt do it on its own."? What was the specific problem? What format did you use ... NTFS, FAT32, other?

    hosts files

In Windows XP Home, it's c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
  3. I use slowest speed as a precaution for archiving irreplaceable data. A hardware tech told me that slower burn is more reliable but that was years ago. On the other hand, it probably can't hurt to go slow. For stuff I'm copying to give away, I use the speed for which the discs are rated.
  4. Some durability comparison Test results
  5. On home ground, Schrute would win ... Pennsylvania allows concealed carry. You never stipulated bare hands.
  6. As hazelnut suggests ... read the manual, but FYI: Cleaner > Windows > Advanced > User Assist History clears the programs list
  7. I had the same problem. Reset Internet Explorer Settings is the first thing you should do but if the problem persists, use Manage Add-ons to disable all add-ons and then add them back one at a time, testing as you go. I found that one of my add-ons was running a process that locked some files in the Temporary Internet Files folder. I suspect the IE7 shutdown sequence wasn't shutting down the add-on before trying to empty the temporary files. Sorry I can't remember which add-on it was but I do know that it wasn't something I miss.
  8. 1 DVD+/-RW usually costs only slightly more than 2 CD-RW's and DVD+/-RW's are physically more durable. For archiving, I only use DVD+RW's. Note: I set my burner at lowest speed for maximum depth of burn.
  9. JDPower responded to your first post several days ago with a suggestion. Since you didn't reply on that thread, people probably thought it was fixed. If it wasn't, continue that thread so people can follow the progress.

    Please Help

What security software is on the PC? As an example, Norton Internet Security with default settings will log all internet activity (IP addresses and times). I don't think CCleaner (or any other washer) will clean the log if "Turn on protection for my Symantec product" is enabled ... which is the default setting.
  11. If all else fails, consider downloading Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition. It's the free replacement for the discontinued Adobe Photo Album.
  12. What OS and which version of CCleaner are you using? On Windows XP SP2, I can't duplicate your problem with either v1.41.544 or v2.00.495. C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch shouldn't contain .dll's, only .pf's and Layout.ini The currently prevailing opinion seems to be that cleaning Prefetch is at best pointless.

It looks like your problem is not uncommon. You may find information or help at this thread at Adobe Forums

  15. For the 2nd Problem, when you said did you mean the File menu Recent Files field between "Properties" and "Exit" becomes empty? ... or that the whole field is absent (but you can see "Exit")? ... or that you get the abbreviated menu (with the expand button at the bottom)?
  16. 1st Problem: Is Tools > Options > Calculation > Automatic enabled? EDIT: 2nd Problem: What is your setting for Tools > Options > General > Recently used file list ?
  17. Because it's a Microsoft product I don't know the reason but I've never seen a PC that didn't list My Computer and local documents in IE History. AFAIK, it's been that way since the earliest versions. If you "fix" it, please post the solution.
  18. If you mean as in this screenshot, that's perfectly normal.
  19. I know these can be cleaned using winapp2.ini but I don't see why they shouldn't just be in the standard winapp.ini: Advanced Find > Search for the Word(s) drop-down list RegKey HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Office Finder|MRU 1 Advanced Find > More Choices > Categories drop-down list RegKey HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Office Finder|MRU 3 Mail Message > Address (To:, Cc:) autocomplete drop-down list FileKey %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook|Outlook.NK2 (shown for Office 2003, other versions may differ)
  20. Dr Watson\user.dmp is a crash dump file. Was a program crashing? Note that if you don't use the dump file to debug, you can disable it in the Dr Watson settings panel.

Anything in this Home page setting changes unexpectedly help?
  22. Are you running CCleaner as a user with admin rights? Can you manually delete the file?
  23. Sorry! Yes, you do have to reboot. I tested it and this may explain your result. By increasing spacing from -1125 to -2125, then rebooting, it almost doubled the spacing and the icon titles stretched out into one line. Changing the value back, and then rebooting, increased the spacing because I had Arrange Icons By > Align to Grid enabled. The second column of icons aligned to the 3rd gridline at 2250 because it was closer than the 2nd. When I manually pushed each icon over, it went back to single spacing.
  24. My desktop is normal (like your "Before") and my reg settings are in the attached screenshot. See if any of your settings (especially IconSpacing, etc.) are obviously different. EDIT: Also, I found that IconTitleWrap occurs several times, e.g., in HKEY_USERS. Find and check those values to see if they're all "1". EDIT2: The IconSpacing values are in twips (1/1440th of an inch) so -1125 in my settings = 1125/1440 = approx. 0.78 inch which works for me but your preference may be different.
