Unchecking Index.dat files in Windows tab>Internet Explorer
don't work ;
and I am obliged to log in on every visit on my favourite sites.
Hi,
You have to untick them in CCleaner. You'll find the tick box under "Cleaner/Windows".

can someone detail how to exclude those dat index files in
CCleaner? please or do you just un-tick index.dat files in windows section?
thanks
Yes, just uncheck them. It worked for me.

So we wait for a reply from the mods..
Hi,
I had the same problem with IE8. The solution was posted eslwhere on this forum. You have to exclude index.dat files under Cleaner/Windows and your problem is solved: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...mp;#entry114838

Hi Keith
I am using explorer 8
Tonight i am going to uninstall CCleaner completely and start again, see if that does it...
This is probably ie8 related. I am having the same problem with CCleaner erasing login cookies in ie8. There are a few other threads on the forum about this, for instance here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=20328
I guess they will probably fix this when ie8 is out of beta.

I've noticed that IE8 stores cookies not only in the cookie folder, but in the Temporary Internet Files folder as well. When I use CCleaner it completely empties the TIS folder, including the cookies stored there. Could that perhaps be the reason why login cookies are erased?

Hi PiPPi,
And thanks for anwering. Unfortunately the trick doesn't work for me. I changed the TIF folder's location and changed it back to its original location afterwards, but in both cases, the cookies I've set to be kept are erased. So perhaps it has to do with the IE8 beta on my system. For the time being I'll set CCleaner nt to wipe cookies at all. Hopefully the problem will be solved in a next release.
Best, Arthur

PiPPi,
Did you actually change the location of the TIF folder or did you just "change" it to its present position? I tried the second approach (keeping the TIF folder in the same place). The computer rebooted after I did that, but the probem was not solved for me. I'm a bit hesitant to change the location of the folder, as I'm uncertain whether other programs - such as CCleaner but others as well - would still be able to find the TIS folder.
TIA, Arthur

I may have the same problem. I posted this in the main discussion forum:
I have been using CCleaner for many years but never seen this happen before. For a few weeks now, CCleaner appears to erase the IE cookies I have set be be kept. Nearly all of these are login cookies.
I use Avant Browser, an IE shell type of browser that uses IE cookies, on a fully updated XP Pro system.
Whenever I use the cleaner, these cookies are deleted, but strangely enough only after I reboot my computer. The pattern is consistent. No cookies are lost when I reboot without having used CCleaner.
Any ideas out there what might be causing this?
TIA, Arthur
I forgot to mention there that I am using IE8 (and Avant uses it as well). Who knows, that may be the cause after all.

Edit: I just saw a few bug reports about this same problem. Some of the posters mention using IE8 beta. and that is what I am doing. It may be a problem with the IE beta.
Index.dat files

Yes it is safe. I had the same problem since installing the IE8 beta und I unchecked the index.dat files to keep my login cookies. With the lastest release I checked them again and cookie handling now is as it should be.
