  1. Jesus wept. All this whining over two incredibly compact, efficient, and indispensible (and FREE) utilities.......... My new theorem: The amount of complaining is inversely proportional to the cost of the software. Right ? Why doesn't everyone just run away to the 50 MB packages that want to defrag while you're editing graphics ? My hat's off to anyone who thinks up a better mousetrap and then donates it to the (self-absorbed) world. Thanks. I feel better now, heh heh.
  2. I had to try this. I compared the speed of manually analyzing my C: drive and then cleaning. When I go directly to clean, it does the analysis then cleans and takes 3 - 5 times longer. Same deal with Defraggler only worse and way slower when using DF.EXE in a .bat file. Analyzing, listing, checking all, and go is done in secods. Diectly defragging takes minutes. What am I missing. I admit to never reading the readme files and even joining a forum first Any clues, wiz kids........... Thx

  4. Ooops. The below line for sound is better. Microsoft says sndrec32.exe has a problem in XP with more than 2GB installed. But only for recording. The /embedding switch prevents the popup GUI. "sndrec32.exe /embedding /play /close TADA.WAV" (farm animal sounds permitted) Cheers, Scott
  5. Me too, since I started programming before Windows, CP/M, and the like. I pity those youger types who don't know reach into the DOS toolbox when needed. Anyway, my batch file is no big deal. I just thought it was cute how two useful utilities, from the same source, could be cobbled together so nicely to do an all too often necessary chore. Better than having the dinner table clean itself up while you watch the TV, ha ha. Cheers,
  6. You're right buddy, but Microsoft had the "foresight" to make sndrec not work anymore if you have >2GB memory inXP. Brilliant. No planned fix.
  7. Try something like this: A Piriform double-shot. CD C:\Program Files\CCleaner CCleaner.exe /AUTO CD C:\Program Files\Defraggler DF.EXE C:\*.* /S CD \WINDOWS\MEDIA mplay32.exe /play /close TADA.WAV CD \ EXIT
