  1. If you're using Windows XP open the following folder in Windows Explorer: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup Create a new shortcut in that folder with the following parameters: "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" /AUTO Name the shortcut whatever you wish, a good name would be: CCleaner Now when each user starts their user profile CCleaner will automatically clean junk files. Note: The Issues scanner won't be executed automatically, it has to be executed manually in order to remove issues from the registry.
  2. Tarun gave you a proper response! It's what I would've told you and I'm sure many other people would've responded the same. Before I even got down to this post in this thread my first thoughts were "why would someone save an important document in the temp folder," hence there's tons of utility minded programs that will quickly empty temp folders, and many of them won't give an output of what's to be deleted. You do however have a valid point, that being moving junk files to the recycle bin for final deletion. Although for me such a feature would be useless especially if it couldn't be disabled, however if you want it as a feature post a reply in the suggestions thread.
  3. I suppose when the next service pack is released you could start fresh at that time, which is something I'll do since SP2 did break some things on my system when I installed it which is something a fresh install fixed.

    My 2 CD Drives

Not sure what you mean by Dell Clone and even if you don't have a valid service tag which would be the case if you bought the system used from an individual you can get the service tag information transferred to you in your name. Dell has a utility called Dell Driver Reset Tool v1.02L A01, direct download: http://ftp.us.dell.com/app/R92578.EXE
  5. In the past according to the makers of VoptXP a commercial disk defrag program a fragmented hard disk will wear out faster than a defragmented hard disk, although it seems as though they've removed that information from their website, so who knows. Then there's the folks that say defragmenting everyday will wear out the hard disk. I defrag each and everyday and have done so since 1998 and haven't had any hard disk failures doing so.
  6. Well I don't trust BackWeb at all since it's installation creates folders with variants of numerals, and it hides itself in a Windows sub-folder. Any program that uses it for an update component should be removed and refunded, and the developer that includes it as the update component should be ashamed that they're too lazy to create their own in-house update component. It's just sloppy and untrustable.
  7. Another DL manager I like which is free/open-source is Wackget, it also has an extension for Firefox users. I don't think it has resume capabilities, however for anyone with a high-speed connection that may not matter. It's based upon or is a GUI for wget which Eldmannen already linked to.
  8. Microsoft has some other service which is in beta at the moment that automatically scans for viruses, runs maintenance, and makes backups. I can't remember what it's called however it's currently free whilst in the beta stage, however once it's finalized it will be subscription based.
  9. I dunno. Since it's a feature you want why don't you add it into the suggestions thread.

    Conflict

Actually all you have to do is disable the startup in CCleaner by unticking: Options > Settings > Run CCleaner when the computer starts
  11. Make sure you aren't using an Proxy software for getting updates, many programs will try to validate the update process and will fail if you use some form of Proxy software such as an ad filtering program. To make sure eTrust EZ Antivirus has a direct connection to the update server do the following: 1. Run eTrust EZ Antivirus. 2. Click the large Update tab at the top. 3. Click Proxy Settings. 4. Under Proxy Server select the following: Do not use a proxy server to connect to the Internet Most programs with an update component should have a similiar procedure where you can configure them to use a direct connection without using a proxy server. Edit: Make sure Internet Explorer doesn't have a Proxy server set into it, since most programs will read the Proxy settings from what Internet Explorer has configured.
  12. I don't think they do anything for download speed, but of course that comment is based upon my usage of dial-up Internet access. The main focus, or should I say main feature of any download manager without the faster download speed hype should be the following: * Resume broken downloads. * Manage downloads by automatically downloading into a default download directory without asking the user where to download files, that in itself makes it easy to find all downloads without having to search for them. It also makes it easy to virus scan all downloads in one shot via a right click on the download folder. Some are malware free, it's easier to find out which ones are if you download them from Softpedia.com, since it gives an all clean reference via an image stating that the software is clean. Although you stated you wanted a free one, the only one I can say that I have ever truely loved is the commercially available Download Mage which I think is worth every cent.
  13. I seriously think if Microsoft releases another service pack for Windows XP including Windows Live Safety Center into Windows Security Center would be a very good decision.
  14. Does the 'Run Cleaner' function itself work? If neither function works make sure you have installed what's detailed in this thread. If that doesn't work you may need to restart Windows after the CCleaner installation. Another possibility is that you'll have to uninstall CCleaner, then reboot. Then install CCleaner and reboot.
  15. Make sure the auto cleaning is in the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run or in the All Users Startup folder in Start > All Programs > Startup that would be in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup Edit: Forgot to mention, that CCleaners auto cleaning will be performed on all user profiles, however it will only clean the active user profile. As for cleaning all profiles, you'll probably have to Options > Custom to clean any particular folders however that won't clean the full scope of things CCleaner is capable of without actually running it on each user profile individually.
  16. You can manually download updates from them by visiting http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/. Note: Since they update it so often you'll probably be updating almost everyday.
  17. CCleaner already cleans prefetch data, you can find it listed in: Cleaner->Settings->System->Old Prefetch data If you are wanting to optimize the layout.ini file (this may make it smaller or larger) click start->run and use this: %windir%\system32\Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

    Music

According to what I've found via a Google search the music in the game is remixed from older Nintendo/Mario games.
  19. If they do an easy way to check would be in their program folder. For some reason most programs that I've seen that use BackWeb place the components into folders with numbers which I suppose represent the BackWeb version.
  20. It doesn't look like your doing anything wrong at all, as you only have to tick the box for it to autostart and then exit the application, it should add the autostart link in the registry immediately. You can optionally have CCleaner automatically clean at startup by placing a shortcut in Start > All Programs > Startup: "C:Program Files\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" /AUTO
  21. People don't realize just how many died during World Wars, Vietnam war, etc., neither did I until I was watching a program on t.v. not to long ago. So many have died that it would dwarf the population of many cities. I have two uncles that served in the Vietnam war, and some other conflicts until they retired.
  22. To make a screenshot you don't need any additional software, the ability is built into Windows. Here's how: 1. Whatever it is your talking about open the program get it to display that red X, and then press together: ALT+PrtScn 2. Open Microsoft Paint and then click: Edit, Paste 3. Save the image as a .png, .jpg, or .gif file with a filename of your choice. 4. Visit either of these free image hosting services: http://www.imageshack.us/, or http://xs.to/ and upload the image from your computer. 5. Once uploaded the free image hosting service will give you the forum code for posting into a reply. All you have to do is copy that code and paste it into a new post.
  23. With all the anti-trust stuff Microsoft has went through I'd think they'd have some trouble or more legal issues trying to acquire Google. Just my 2 cents.
  24. A screenshot would help!
  25. Go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll down until you get to 231. On the far right of 231 download both items "Set Internet Explorer to Full Screen" - "Undo"
