  1. The rails (drive slide mechanism) is what malfunctions when it gets dirty and needs to be lubricated with sewing machine oil. I'm so practiced at doing it, it now only takes me 10-15 minutes to take it apart clean it and reassemble. Looks like this: That's a known problem. The only solution I found with those discs which are CD's not DVD's is to constantly reboot the system, or go into the memory card manager area and then insert the disc and then load it from there. My problem is solved though because I sold all the CD PS2 games I had because I was tired of the loading issues.
  2. Umm no! Spybot SD's TeaTimer has a messed up malformed display. Arovax was uninstalled days before my system died on Friday. I was using and had resident eTrust EZ Antivirus, ZoneAlarm (Free), Microsoft Antispyware.
  3. That's a bit of a cheap shot. Dell is known for using propriety hardware, etc., in their systems however the system I'm on now is my second Dell. And guess what the next system I get will also be a Dell.
  4. I don't know if this is the same thing or not, however on my system I enable the Status Bar in an Explorer window by clicking "View->Status Bar" then the immediate folder size is shown (not sub-directories) at the bottom of the open window. It also works in detailed view.
  5. I'll probably end up with a PS3 for one reason it'll be more powerful than the XBOX 360 and will most likely continue having the type of games available I like to play. I only hope the PS3 build quality is better because I surely don't feel like taking it apart every 6-12 months to clean and lubricate the rails when the system starts to malfunction, like the current situation with the PS2. I'm not even considering the Nintendo system.
  6. I'll never browse the web using an Administrator account again because out of nowhere on Friday whilst browsing something (probably a virus or worm) wiped out allot of my hardware configuration such as "HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\CurrentControlSet" "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlControlSet" and so forth. My installed antivirus, antispyware, and firewall didn't protect me one bit! Restoring a registry backup, and a system restore point didn't work, needless to say I reinstalled everything.
  7. Yeah, more precisely at the top of each page everywhere in the forums. I mean if it's at the bottom why not at the top as well.
  8. For starters: - Restart Windows if you haven't done so in a while. - Check your hard disk(s) for errors. - Defragment your hard disk(s).

  10. I was wondering if it would be possible to have built into the forums a drop down quick navigation menu? The reason I ask is because when in one area of the forums it would be much faster if there was drop down navigation to quickly jump to another area of the forums. I was playing in paint and made a screenshot as an example:
  11. Start->Search->Search for Index.dat Leave the one in C:\I386 alone.

    Windows 95a

According to the Help and Support section Win95 is supported as detailed here: http://www.CCleaner.com/help/faq_install.asp#q2.1
  13. For commercial AV I wouldn't choose either Kaspersky or McAfee I would instead use eTrust EZ Antivirus, there's a 1 year trial by visiting http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/. eTrust EZ Antivirus is the smallest commercial AV scanner I know of, the setup file is only 4.21 MB and when installed it uses consumes about 11 MB. I would actually choose Avast Antivirus Home Edition or AVG Antivirus Free Edition over many commercial AV scanners that are bloated and install too much. For any OS before Win2k and WinXP I would install AVG, I've seen far too many times with Avast where the resident shield can't be activated in for instance some Win98 systems. Edit: Fixed typo's.
  14. There's no need for AOL since there's many ISP's that don't install so much crap just to connect to the Internet. For Dial-up users check a local ISP since they typically just have you just configure what's already installed on Windows without having to install some bloated application. I say this as a former AOL member who grew very tired of it. RealPlayer I haven't used for years. There's the freeware, no adware, no spyware, and no malware: Real Alternative. And while we're at it there's also QuickTime Alternative. Edit: Fixed typo's.
  15. Google for it: here I removed it off my system almost 1 1/2 years ago.
  16. Opera (Single User): 1. Open C:\Program Files\Opera\profile\cache4 2. Copy the .swf file(s) to another location.
  17. BackWeb although not "considered" spyware seems dodgy and/or suspicious to me since it plants itself all over the registry and all over the disk drive. I have no problems with Spybot SD f'n with BackWeb even though it means no updates to my Kodak Digital Camera (which has crappy software that's bloated, clunky, butt ugly, and looks outdated to begin with anyways). I find it strange so many well known software and hardware manufacturers use BackWeb Lite as an update component. Edit: And what's even more suspicious about BackWeb is that it give's it's .dll, .exe and registry entries different names (variants), as if it were trying to hide itself.

To put it simple if a terrorist organization wishes to attack us there's little that I think can be done to completely avoid it, especially since they keep saying on the news that there's already Al Qaeda operatives here in the U.S.A. As long as there's radical fanatic's with a warped perversion of a religion this kind of crap will keep going on, and arresting Osama Bin Laden or even killing him won't end it. And don't forget 9/11 was at the least the fourth major terrorist attack on U.S. soil: 1. Pearl Harbor (some of the Japanese declared it a terrorist act after 9/11) 2. World Trade Center bombings. 3. Oklahoma City bombings (domestic terrorism). 4. 9/11.
  19. If you live in the U.S.A. you can hear what he has to say every Wednesday evening (9 PM Central, 10 PM Eastern) on the British imported automotive show TopGear which is shown on the Discovery channel.
  20. As TwistedMetal pointed out you can mass delete those .tmp files. Via a Command Prompt here's how: del /q "%windir%\temp\*.tmp"

Yeah, they impose all the laws and start two wars and still haven't caught the 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden yet. According to a cable news channel (don't remember which one), supposedly FEMA's slow response to Hurricane Katrina relief was the result of FEMA having to direct most of their resources to homeland security because of 9/11 here in the U.S.A.
  22. Indeed. Some of the best RPG's ever that are worth every cent.
  23. Sometime has already passed it's now some three months later after Spybot SD 1.4 was released.
  24. Make sure the program is closed before running CCleaner.
