  1. so it's your opinion that Windows doesn't require any learning? You said you agreed with pwillener when he said that. Do want to explain that further or do now realize how wrong that comment was?
  2. Agreed. I never said Mac was a good value because it's not. The stuff is over priced, Apple has the whole thing tied up and Mac fan boys are idiots. That doesn't change the fact OS X is a great OS.
  3. The reason Mac was brought into this thread was because someone posted a comment about MS complementing Mac in the article that was linked. Someone found that hard to believe. I don't. I don't find it hard to believe that MS sees the light and realizes their OS needs to change to and sees the advantages of Macs. Your comment in your second paragraph confirms what I have been saying. They are favoring what they use. That is hardly an unbiased opinion. I have no bias towards an OS so I can objectively comment. Thanks for proving my point for me although I know that was not your intention you did any ways. As for the rest it's not surprising that like minded people will side with each other. Don't take comfort in that. It means nothing. Everybody else is doing it has never been and never will be a good reason to do anything. Calling some one a troll is a way for some to discredit another person when they can't do it on intellect. They are in a battle of wits and unarmed so they resort to calling you a troll which means they disagree with you and can't justify why.
  4. You couldn't? So you think you can take a person who has never used a computer and sit him in front of one and the person will know what to do? That's a joke. I know people who have been using computers for years and still don't know what they are doing. I don't know if you use Windows 7, Mac OS X, Linux. or are like pwillener and just use XP. I use them all and they are all different and all require learning them. You never stop learning them no matter how much you know. One of the major reasons people stick with XP is because they already know it and learning a new system takes time and effort. Many businesses still use XP because of the time and money it will take to upgrade and retrain their people on Windows 7. That wouldn't be an issue if their was no learning curve. I can't believe some of the non sense I'm reading in this thread. Getting called a troll (from an XP user with no experience on other OS's) for thinking Mac OS X is the best OS . Getting told that Windows has no learning curve. Unbelievable.
  5. OK, no offense intended but you just showed me how much you do not know. If you think Windows usage does not require a learning curve I don't know what to tell you. Every OS requires a learning curve. If they didn't there wouldn't be hundreds of thousands of sites like this one and manuals and classes and everything else. People don't just sit in front of a computer and know what to do. Your comment is one that I think no one with any computer knowledge will agree with. As for why you still use XP, you have your reasons but there is no way that a person that uses one OS, and an obsolete one at that, is qualified to discuss what is the better OS. You do not use the others so how can you comment on them. You are using one OS so that is what you will be biased to. You do see that don't you?
  6. This is not the first stupid comment you have made to me but it is the most stupid one you have made. How can you call me a troll? I have several hundred posts in a variety of discussions. I back up what I say I don't just make comments that are irrelevant to a discussion and intended to bait people. That's what trolls do. Mods this clown is out of line. I have been warned and had PM's sent to me when I was out of line I expect the mods to do the same for Aethec.
  7. There already is a portable CCleaner. Look here http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
  8. The reviews seem to be mixed. I did get a link from one of the reviews and it looks good. They give you a patched version of the UX theme dll and you just replace the old one with it.
  9. People stay with XP because they don't want to put the time into learning a new OS. The reason for that is because Windows is such a PITA to use they think all OS's are. Many former Windows users I know were shocked with the small learning curve on Macs and wished they had switched earlier. They are so amazed at the ease of use of Macs that they find Windows disgusting now and can't believe how many people use it. As for going to computer stores and seeing who is buying what. Check out any Mac store or a computer store that is authorized to sell Macs. They are packed with people. As for the debate in general of what OS is best. IMO unless you use all of them you have no business commenting. You will be biased towards the one you use and unqualified to intelligently comment on the one you don't use. I use them all, Windows, Mac, and Linux so I am not biased to any of them since I can switch at will. How can you possibly listen to a person that refuses to even leave XP behind comment on Mac or even windows 7. They will come up with any excuse they can to justify why their OS of choice is best because they are stuck with it. The person that can use any OS has no such bias and will s much more credible. If MS released an OS that was superior to Mac I would say so without hesitation. Why wouldn't I? I have nothing holding me to any OS. To get back on topic of this thread. The new Windows 8 sounds very interesting and I can't wait to see it. Looking forward to the new IE 9 as well which will be in beta soon.
  10. If you look at the Mac OS 10 releases over the last decade you will see that they release a new version every two years or so. The latest version being 10.6 Snow Leopard. Frequent releases can be done and in fact are the norm. None of the OS 10 releases were disasters like Windows ME or Vista. The XP situation is very abnormal and I don't think MS will ever take so long again between releases.
  11. First of all I have no loyalty or allegiance with any OS. I am neither a Mac fanboy or a Windows hater. I us both everyday and am getting into LInux as well now. When I make a comment on a OS it's unbiased and I call it like I see it. Right now Mac OS X is the best OS there is. If tomorrow MS came out with a killer OS that blew MAC out of the water I would say so without hesitation. That's one of the benefits of being a multi OS user on a daily bases. I don't feel any need to side with a OS since I'm not tied to only one. As for your comment about why XP made it so big. There are many reasons a product becomes popular and it's not always because it's the best. There is price, there is how gullible and stupid the consumer is to marketing, there is following the crowd, laziness about switching (which XP is still benefiting from), false perceptions, and many other things. There are many examples through history of inferior products becoming more popular than superior ones. By your way of thinking Toyota Corollas must be better than Porches since more people drive them. We know that's not true. Edited by moderation: Unacceptable direct insult removed.
  12. Not true. I was blown away by how easy Macs were to learn. It's made for the non geek to be able to use without much hassle and it's accomplished that. That's one reason it's taking off now.
  13. There are many reasons MS has the larger market share but one of them is not having a better OS. Mac OS 10 is far better than Windows. Even Windows 7 which I like much better than XP is not nearly as good as Mac. In case you haven't noticed Apple is eating Microsoft's lunch lately and it will only get worse for MS. Maybe MS has pulled their head out of their ass and is seeing the light.
  14. Many on here can't seem to give up XP. They will be 4 versions behind before they know it.
  15. I'm aware of that. Thats why I need the patcher. My theme is a not an official MS theme. The patcher I used for SP2 worked perfectly without issue but it's not updated for SP3. There are many XP users here so I would like to know what they patched with for SP3. There are many patchers out there but some cause more problems then it's worth. I would like to hear from people that have used a patcher with no issues so it's proven to be a good one.
  16. I looked at that one but the reviews are horrible. Seems every one is having major problems with it.
  17. What program are XP SP3 users having good results with for patching the UX theme dll? I have one that worked well on SP2 but it doesn't on SP3.
  18. Funny when I posted this in the software forum Mr G removed the link because he said the app was an illegal repackaging.
  19. Yes that would work to. They should have did something though. It's old news that is coming around again with the recent end of support for XP SP2. There were many that had not updated and now have to if they want to continue getting support and updates.
  20. I have XP on one machine and that won't be for much longer so it's no problem for me. I just find the whole SP3 thing with the AMD processor bush league and should have been handled better by MS. I don't care if they supported the configuration or not. The min they knew about the problem and started to issue the instructions on how to fix it they should have released a SP3 with the fix in it.
  21. Firefox memory usage has climbed on all my systems. XP SP3 and SP2 as well as Mac. It's a Firefox thing not a SP3 thing. It's only going to get worse. Wait until they run all tabs and addons in a separate process like Chrome does. Than you will really see the memory usage increase. Now of course you will get some replies from the people who say so what you have a lot of RAM what do you care. That doesn't change the fact Firefox is using more memory.
  22. Don't tell me to stop complaining. You don't like what I say than ignore me. I can assure you I won't lose any sleep over it. This is a MS problem or they wouldn't have provided a solution even though that solution is a hassle. Obviously MS feels this is their problem why else would they provide the instructions on how to fix it? I'm saying they should have made a better solution instead of the Mickey Mouse one they provided.
  23. This bug is something MS knows about weather they ever supported the configuration or not. They should have released an XP SP3 that fixed this problem.
  24. Yes I agree. pwillener, The point is it should not have made it this far. Either MS is going to support XP or it isn't. Don't half ass it. I just find this whole fix bush league.
  25. I never said MS wanted to screw their users and will advise you not to put words in my mouth or we will have a problem. As for it being MS fault. They know what the problem is now they should issue a fix to SP3 so it doesn't happen. The current solution is not acceptable IMO.
