Plenty of options we can do don't worry. You need to follow Dennis's advice and post in the Spyware Hell forum though.

The shields are there for a reason, you should use them if you don't want to get infected. They are easily one of the best methods from getting infected by malware.

definitely use the mcafee removal tool

May check these out
Any idea if either browser ( chrome, opera ) allow you to use the foxytunes add-on ?
edit : converted to chrome already

Spyware Terminator is junk and used to be a rogue anti-spyware program. Don't waste your time and money with it.

Its a good idea to follow the advice of moderators, if Hazel thinks your problem is malware related then it more than likely is
a) what "locked file" means,who/when/how said files got locked, and
c) whether or not I should unlock same (if I can find out how to do it) and run scan again?
a) Its a file that cannot be scanned, cant get its MD5, loads of other potential issues
Locked files are usually due to malware or a security program
c) No you shouldn't unlock files.
If you have the AVG log post it here

We use that folder to get a clean backup of a file to deal with patched files in malware removal. From that point of view, it would be a terrible idea for users to flush the contents of the folder.

You need to find out what program is causing your issues by disabling them one at a time till you don't get this problem in normal mode
Chances are its a security program or some add-on responsible

Do your problems happen in safe mode or safe mode with networking ?

It is pretty easy to report the false positives, take 5 minutes to do at most.
Otherwise just add it to the ignore list if you aren't going to report it

SpywareGuard's protection has nothing to do with what browser you use

FileHippo update checker is the best in my opinion, extremely easy and fast to use

What are you on about ? Without being rude to you, that is such a ridiculous and funny idea. Mods aren't picked by how much of an expert they are with windows here or at most forums, while it does help, its hardly the decisive factor when it comes to promoting people. How would such an idea even be policed, if a new version of windows comes out do mods get demoted if they don't become experts concerning it ? Do we get a weekly written test ?
My computer knowledge is pretty average, especially when it comes to the tech side of things, but I'm a mod here and at a lot of other forums. I'd like to think its cause I've got a sensible head on my shoulders, am a good poster, know the rules, and make a solid contribution. From what I've seen, people are promoted to mods if they make a good contribution to the site, whether they are "experts" or not.
