I seems to me that it would be a good idea to set the Sensitivity to High instead of Normal on Network Shield, you agree?

I have been thinking of possible going to another player other than Windows Media Player. I don't play any videos, just music. Any suggestions on a good free player that will play MP3 format so all my songs from WMP will play? Thanks guys & gals for your time.

I have purchased all I want to buy from iTunes. Like I said, I have hundreds of songs in Windows Media Player. My intention is to get these iTunes songs I have into WMP and then just uninstall iTunes and all the crap that came with it. Dennis, what exactly did you mean by "backed-up on my D: drive, my partition"? I guess I could just copy from iTunes to CD then copy back from CD to WMP - I guess that would work unless you can't copy iTunes because of the format.

I needed to download iTunes Quick Time to purchase a few songs I wanted and could not get elsewhere. I have hundreds of songs in my Windows Media Player and ususally use that to play my music. Now on occasion I open iTunes Player to access the few songs I have there. I was wondering if there is any way to transfer these songs I have in my iTunes player over to my Windows Media Player files? As probably everyone knows, iTunes is quite bloated. I was also wondering if I download Quick Time Lite if I can transfer the songs I currently have in iTunes to Quick Time Lite and then uninstall Quick Time? Thank for your time.

I use Incredimail as my email client, will Sandbox block any email coming and going?

According to BlackViper: Go to the "Add Remove Programs" and click the "Windows components." Here, take out all the crap you do not need. Such as "MSN EXPLORER" and such. I am by no means an expert and that is why I just assumed it was necessary for proper function. By the above comment, I gather it is not. Will IE still function and will all be ok in XP land if I disable it? Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.

I have never heard of this program till today and I checked on their website, it all sounds like great protection. Is it worth downloading? Can it coexist with ZoneAlarm and any A/V, anti-malware program?

ahhh, there it is...I was looking under the Tools area. Well, clicked on Policies and I have zero Restrictive Policies....YAY!

Someone told me that despite the fact that I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SUPERAntiSpyware and Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2008 and run a scan with these 3 once a week - and the fact that I also have SpywareBlaster installed, that I still should be using Spybot Search and Destroy as well. Naturally I have heard of SS&D, but is it really that great that I would need it in addition to the others I have? I really value the opinion of all of you, so I thought I would ask for your thoughts on this. Thanks for your time.

I went into tools and I can't see "Policies". Am I missing somethhing?

Below I have listed the programs I would not be without. I have used them for a long time and they all run flawlessly. Like I said, they are real gems in my opinion. And no, I don't work for the companies I hope some of you will find them as useful as I have! (1) StickyPad: an invaluable, easy-to-use tool that lets you place sticky notes on your desktop. Since installing this program I have not had to write one single note on paper at my PC, I use StickyPad instead. I have 6 email accounts and find this really helpful. http://www.poptray.org/ (3) tinySpell: a utility that allows you to easily and quickly check and correct the spelling in any Windows application. Gives a slight audible beep when you make a spelling error - you can ignore and add words to its memory. http://tinyspell.m6.net/ (4) Password Safe: allows you to safely and easily create a secured and encrypted user name/password list. I downloaded Dial-a-fix last night and it seems like a geat little program. Thank you to all fwho gave me this recommendation. I just have a few questions to help enable me to get the most out of Dial-a-fix (keeping in mind that my PC is working well): (1) I have version 0.60.0.24, is this the latest version? (2) In reference to the "Flush Software Distribution" button, is it a good idea to flush all? (3) Under Tools, is there anything on the list that you recommend that I execute (keeping in mind I don't seem to be having any problems)? (4) Having said that I have no problems, I do have 1 tiny problem but its not a bother so I forgot about it. I play poker online and on just one poker site when I open the program, pop-up appears that tells me there was a script error on the page. No matter how I respond (click "yes" to continue running the script or "no" to not continue, the pop-up disappears and the poker site program runs fine (so like I said, it's not a real bother). Is there an easy fix for this? I only expereince this pop-up message with this one site and I never used to have this problem on that site. Thank you for your time!

GOOD news all, for me and I am sure for you too because now I won't be bothering you with the problems I have had over the last 2 days. All has been fixed. My PC is running like new, Internet connection and all. Thank you all for all your support and help regarding all my issues. I really, really appreciate it. You guys are the best! I will outline my fix, in case you are wondering and to close this subject with a comment that may serve someone with a similar problem to mine: What caused the blue screen coming up every 3 minutes or so after each start-up was "dumprep 0-k", which has now been disabled. I gather this certainly is not needed because dumpreg is for the message pop-up "program has encountered an error and must close, to report this error to Microsoft, click send". I tried the following steps in order to totally get rid of it, but it still shows up under startup items (but like I said, now its disabled), but these steps may work well for others: Right click My Computer and select Properties, now click the Advanced Tab, look under Startup and Recovery, click Settings, down towards the bottom there is a drop down box under Write Debugging Information, click the arrow and select none and make sure that the word None stays in the box and click ok, now click the Error Reporting button and choose Disable Error Reporting. Now click OK and Ok. Now go to start, search Local Drive, search for *.DMP and delete the files that it fines, empty recycle bin. Now run MSCONFIG and see if that program is still in the startup area, if it's gone great, if not you may need to edit the registry: Start Run type regedit and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Select KernelFaultCheck name and hit delete. So after I disabled ?dumprep 0-k? all worked fine on my PC but I did not have Internet connection. To finally solve that problem I contacted my Internet provider and he was able to help fix the problem. This was the fix: Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections Now ?LAN or High ? Speed Internet ? window opens and shows Local Area Connection. It should say Connected. If not then right ? click and click disable. Reboot. Get back to same place then right ? click and click on Enable. Now Local Area Connection should say Connected and now you should have Internet connection. Hopefully this may be of some help to some people.

All problems seem to have been solved (a looong day trying tons of things finally paid off) EXCEPT for one more problem that I need help to solve. I have NO Internet connection. My modem and router are working fine (so is my wife?s PC which is 3 ft. away from mine). Here is my current status for settings in msconfig: General Tab I am using Selective Startup and have a check mark in Process SYSTEM.INI File (so all items are checked under the SYSTEM,INI tab). I am using Original BOOT.INI I have enabled a few of the programs that I want to run under the Stratup tab. WIN.INI Tab I have all items listed disabled (i.e. not checked) BOOT.INI Tab Nothing checked so all disabled Services Tab Checkmark for only 3 items, as follows: DCOM Service Process Launcher (under Essential heading it says Yes) ? (Under Status it says Running). Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator (under Essential heading it says Yes) - (under Status it says Stopped). Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (under Essential heading it says Yes) ? (under Status it says Running). If anyone can suggest what to do to get Internet Connection, I would greatly appreciate it! I assume its just some setting or something I have to activate. Thank you.

Just trying to keep anyone reading up-to-date with my current status. I felt that not going to blue screen is great news for me because now hopefully , with help, I can isolate the problem and fix it.

Hi YoKenny, First, thank you for your easy-to-follow reply. I may not need to give you this info due to latest developments in my saga...I just posted my current situation (as you saw). Are you saying I need to reinstall ME as well if I do indeed need to reinstall XP. Hopefully having no blue screen appearing now will give me time to resolve the problem without a clean XP install...with lots of suggestions to help find how to get 100% again. Thnaks for your time!

good news...now my PC is NOT going to blue screen and staying up. Here is the current situation: Not sure why, but due to the problem, ALL startup programs had been disabled --EXCEPT-- for one, "dumprep 0-k". I unticked the box (disabled it) then rebooted and now there is no blue screen (my PC has been on about 50 minutes now). Also, within the services tab, there are only 2 things running, "Remote Procedure Call" and "DCOM Server Process Launcher yes". Under the General tab in msconfig, the Startup Selection is "Diagnostic Startup". Should I now tick all startup programs except "dumprep 0-k" and reboot and see what happens? I will wait for a response because I don't want to screw anything up at this stage :-) Also, what should I do about all the services that are unticked?
