  1. This might have been suggested before. I have no clue. 1. An option to add apps to the startup should be added. Reasons: QUOTE In case the user wants his browser to start automatically when his Windows boots. *Create a shortcut to what you want to run in Start/All Programs/Startup folder. This will load apps on startup* In case the user has by mistake, removed an app from the list. *Use the disable if you are not sure, instead of delete* 2. A separate folder in the CCleaner folder which is dedicated for Registy Fixer Backup Files. A button should be added in the Registry tab which takes you directly to the folder. Something like that? *Backups are stored in My Documents by default. Yes, CCleaner should store it in a folder called Registry Backups under program files/ccleaner. It should have the option to always ask where to store files, or to automatically save them in the program folder.* QUOTE Maybe an option that allows you to choose the folder where you store the reg backups? *See above* 3. Not so important: A history tab to see how much space, etc. has been cleaned in the last couple of runs. *Although the purpose of CCleaner is to remove history, not add or keep* QUOTE [Proved Hopeless] *I agree, it would be pointless.* 4. Just IMHO the "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours" should be reduced to 24 hours or say 36 hours. *Yes, it should have an option you can select for 12, 24, 36, or 48 hours* QUOTE An option to set the time period: 24 or 48? 5. One more thing, A little information could be added to the "Uninstall" module. Like Date Installed, Size. "Sort Apps by Name OR Size, etc" *That would be nice to have an option you can tick for more information if needed so it won't slow it down when it isn't needed* QUOTE Will make the uninstaller more robust and easy to use! 6. An option when you Right Button click(Disable, Delete) on a startup app line.. which would say "Locate file on Explorer". This should redirect you to the folder where the file is located. *That would be very nice. Then you could more easily see whether that file you wanted to disable was related to malware. Sometimes there is very little info on them*
  2. There are startup items that load that CCleaner does not remove. CCleaner would be perfect if it could add removal of BHO, since they load on startup just like other items. The registry key listed below is where all BHO are stored: The CLSIDs of the BHOs Internet Explorer loads are stored in the registry under the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Explorer \Browser Helper Objects BHO can be helpful or harmful. But they startup just like other startup items. Any chance you can add ability to disable/remove BHO objects? P.S. Would really love if you re-introduce the ability to select more than one startup item at a time to disable or remove like it was in version 2.08 or 2.09. That feature alone is a lifesaver on systems with hundreds of startup items, & the ability to disable them all, reboot, then figure what you really need to have enabled just does wonders! I hate having to manually disable each tick box for 153 or even 237 items like on some systems I have seen. Please!!!! Spare my little fingers, LOL!!!! Thanks a lot!
  3. Sure, it would take another click or two, but autorun.inf files that load installer files are only texts that refer to an executable on the plugged in device. I see what your saying, but removing an autoloader would not damage anything that I am aware of, just make it so that you would have to manually click the right exe, msi, or whatever to load it. Thanks for your input.
  4. Actually, just now enabled Sys Restore on my XP Pro with SP2 & it failed to show any right click option in CCleaner that you can make a new sys restore point. It DID show the new sys checkpoint it created upon enabling. I verified both files were directly in the CCleaner folder before launching.
  5. No, it would not be too late. There is a program called AutoRun Eater that does it as soon as you insert a flash drive, it checks the autorun entry & flags it if it is malicious so you can remove it. Many people do not know they have malicious autorun entries, & this program can clean what is on drive C: as well as any drives you connect, which prevents that you insert another uninfected flash drive & it gets infected as well. It totally stops & kills the infection, which I believe would be very very nice if CCleaner could do.
  6. I guess it would help if I had system restore enabled first, huh? I forgot I had turned it off earlier! Thanks!
  7. I have noticed that there is something that really needs to be run now-a-days. Something that is easy to clean, but causes a lot of problems. Recently, encountered a friend who was hit by an auto-run script from a flash drive that caused drive C: to show a recycle bin error as the result of the infection. Was able to remove it with Auto-Run eater... A free, simple program. Any way to add a feature to CCleaner to show any auto-run .inf file from flash drives, harddisks, etc? They should be very easy to delete & remove, but this is starting to pop up a lot on computers & it is very annoying to have to repair this when someone brings you a new pc because they didn't clean their flash drive, then you have to clean their flash drive as well. Would be really nice to be able to show all .inf auto load from plugged in devices, so user can clean or delete them if they are causing problems! Thank you!
  8. Bad mistake http://www.handyrecovery.com/handyrecovery-fw.exe using a professional data recovery tool like the link I provided, can recover files even from "raw" disk that windows prompts you to format. This happens because of corrupted partition or MFT errors. The version 4 of their software is very very good. If you cannot get it back with that, you may as well hang it up. You had a good chance of recovering it, but when you formatted it, you made it so much harder on yourself. No, no, never format until you do a handy recovery on it first.
  9. Try the free version of handy recovery. http://www.handyrecovery.com/handyrecovery-fw.exe The later versions are far more powerful, but chances are, if recuva can't, it can. I have not see a data recovery program (so far) that can best the version 4 or so of handy recovery at finding hidden files. It even finds lost partitions and finds the files deleted on that! Top that!
  10. CCleaner invokes the programs own installer, same as windows does as far as I am aware of. How is that being less proper?
  11. While this may be un-necessary for you, I have seen cases where thousands of entries were added to a hosts file. Redirects, blocks for good websites, the exact opposite of what you have used it for. While you use it for good, malware can & does use it for bad. Being able to safely clean the hosts file quickly could solve problems for a lot of people. It would not be mandatory for you to use the hosts cleaner, but it certainly would never do any damage to anyone's hosts file if CCleaner had a cleaner to it. All that would be necessary is for it to list every address in the hosts file, but hide the default windows ones so no harm could come. You could of course argue that cleaning temp folders would cause all kinds of programs to go off that block any file operations that involve deleting files, moving or changing files, or modifying the registry for those who let ccleaner store settings in the registry instead of .ini The truth is, ccleaner is a good program, & programs who go crazy because of ccleaner running can be safely shut down. I see no reason a hosts file cleaner would do any harm whatsoever. It would be entirely optional to clean, just like registry cleaning and startup cleaning is.
  12. Awesome! Just one problem? I extracted both files to the ccleaner folder, but when I went to sys restore control in ccleaner, I didn't see any new right click or other options. Is it hidden, or did I miss something?
  13. They release the installer every month, because it contains the ini file inside the EXE for telling CCleaner what to remove. Besides this, there are often changes to the program itself such as the very recent system restore control. Just releasing a database would do nothing to fix bugs on running on Vista, Windows 7, XP PRO, etc, in addition to the fact that when people send ccleaner to a flash drive (and forget the database?) it keeps them from looking stupid for ccleaner not "cleaning"!
  14. Is there a way to add the ability to clean the host file? Sometimes malware adds hundred or thousands of "blocked" IP addresses like AVG, Avast, Avira, Spybot, AdAware etc. Any way add these abilities to CCleaner? - Remove IP addresses - Reset Hosts file to default - Option to backup hosts before beginning so they can restore it back if they want This is majorly overlooked, but sometimes cleaning the hosts file can restore perfect functionality to web browsers!
  15. The ability to delete restore points is nice. Very nice. What about the options to: - Increase or decrease restore point creation frequency (- or + hours, min, seconds) - Enable or disable restore on different drives - Create a new restore point - Select multiple restore points to delete at a time (What happens when someone has gigs of restore points?) - Set the amount of allowed diskspace for system restore to use I believe that these would really be beneficial to CCleaner users.
  16. I have wondered about this myself. Version 2.08 or so of CCleaner had checkmark boxes + multi selections, I believe. I may be wrong on the version, but I remember that one of the versions did have it. They really need to bring that back for startup + restore points
  17. It looks very nice & simple. But I don't know how to use Italian. Maybe when you have the english version
  18. Could you please add a Browser Helper Object remover under tools? I use NirSoft startup run to detect & disable them. I would love to be able to drop it & only use ccleaner. It is in only 1 place in the registry, & basically just another startup type of program, but there are many malicious programs that love to use BHO to control a PC or even hijack the desktop. It is as simple as deleting or disabling the BHO & there are no definitions to update. There is only one place in the registry they appear. Period. Would love a tool to disable or delete BHO please! Also, maybe a prefetch disable or control tool. The new system restore control is NICE!!!! I LOVE IT! Thank you guys! In summary, all I want now is: - BHO tool to disable or delete BHO - Prefetch disable or control tool
  19. I second the motion. While it is nice to be first off the trigger, would be nice to be able to choose no delay, or specify how many seconds or minutes after booting that it starts cleaning. Of course, slower computers will need longer than faster ones, as do slow ones running on scant mem. CCleaner can then clean files produced by programs after they have already loaded...
  20. I agree. I second the motion. Being able to clean on reboot is nice, but how about computers that are always on? How do you do an "auto" clean when they never reboot (hardly, say, once a month, like servers etc)? Good idea
  21. As far as I know, CCleaner doesn't have to index the list of programs. It is far faster than waiting for windows to load add/remove though. I see no reason this cannot work.
  22. Neat feature, but a freeware already exists for that called Double Driver. There is also a freeware called Driver! Backup. There is also a freeware called Driver Magician Lite. The easiest way to make em portable is mark all your folders inside program files as hidden, & do the same in the system32 folder except the microsoft folder residing there. Install the program & see if it drops any ocx/dll files there. Use SFX maker of winrar to convert it to a single exe. You can grab icons with Batch Icon Extractor.
  23. What he is asking for, I believe, is for CCleaner to remove the trash left over from where windows keeps an index of files (if it is enabled) for making windows search faster.
  24. CCleaner does not get cleaned from the temp folder due to the .ini file that gets extracted to the same folder as CCleaner, telling it NOT to delete files unless they are 24 hours old or older. This is why CCleaner works like this!
  25. Some people such as me, have run into the problem of there being so many entries that it literally looks nearly a mile long. Is there a way to add a find as you type, or a search box where you can go straight to something named, or with the name in the title etc so that you can breeze through uninstalls if you know what you are looking for? In addition, some programs do not play friendly if you "delete" their uninstaller, particularly if they are .msi based installs. Any way to hide programs you know you want to keep so you can "remove" their entry, or else protect them from being uninstalled, perhaps password protected or something? In a nutshell, here is what I would love, to make it simple: - Find as you type in Add/Remove on CCleaner since my list of programs can be REALLY long - A way to either hide or protect certain programs from being uninstalled (password protected, or something?) This would keep me & other people from accidentally removing programs I know should stay!
