  1. Finally, the developers are definitely working on adding an option for making OEC the "Default email Client".
  2. I am still using MS Works 2003 version and I am still able to to use the program without a hiccup. Registering is also not a problem.
  3. - This could have been an attempt to see how vulnerable the MacOS is. It could have been meant to be a backdoor for future infections.
  4. - To be honest: this is the first time I used the program for "recovering" a (fairly large) bunch of (large) files. - Luckily those files were on an non-system drive. I use that drive to backup all the files I have on my main (system) drive. And I was keenly aware that writing to that disk would risk overwriting those files that needed to be recovered. So, I didn't write/copy any files to that drive before "recovering" those "lost" files. And that's - of course - the best way to approach this "recovery" problem. - Yes, after giving it some hours of thought, I figured out what the limitations are of "recovering" those files with RECUVA.
  5. First, let me state that I used the program yesterday for the first time in say 4 or 5 years. I needed to recover a number of files I accidently deleted. I was able to succesfully recover those files. After that I started fiddling with the program. Tried to recover a number of other files that supposedly were not overwritten by other files. But when I tried to play those files (these were *.mp4 & *.flv files) it turned out out that the content of the files was different from what the title was promising. And some files, that were supposedly "recoverable" generated an error. (e.g. "General Error") And this happened with all 3 mediaplayers I have installed (and regularly use). When the program was recovering those files, it copied/recoverd those files from the D drive (external) drive and put those files onto my main drive (C). That's where the prgram code needs to be improved in a future version. Perhaps other programs are "interfering" with RECUVA ?? Perhaps the program needs to better "protect its internal variables" ?
  6. When "Run Once" or "Run Everytime" has been selected then a checkmark is placed before the active option. Autoruns shows that DF makes - for the boot time defrag - an entry in the registry key called "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute" There is a video avaialble that describes what AUTORUN can show/can do: https://channel9.msdn.com/Shows/Defrag-Tools/Defrag-Tools-5-Autoruns (watch the video from about 12:00 onwards)
  7. Defraggler makes an entry somewhere in the registry. But I haven't got the faintest clue where in the registry. When Windows boots the next time DF defragments (or tries to) a number system files BEFORE the bulk of the Windows (e.g. 7, 8 or 10) files is loaded and executed. DF uses a "defragment API" that is included in the Windows Operating System. No, I don't think it will cause a conflict with other defragmenting tools. There is a tool availble that shows what kind of programs are running (e.g. defrgamenting tools) before the bulk of Windows is loaded and executed. And that tool is a Sysinternal's tool called AUTORUNS. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns AUTORUNS simply shows EVERY process/program that's automatically run with the start of Windows. I assume it will show DEFRAGGLER's pre-boot defrag process as well.
  8. Here an example of a fragmented file called "hiberfil.sys". See the picture attached. I am sure that there are more (fragmented) system files that can be defragmented upon start up by Defraggler.
  9. Already have received say 3 "update" messages from Flash itself. Then the program asked me to give my consent to remove Flash. Perhaps I will remove Flash at a later stage. Is Flash still needed to play content (e.g. videos) on websites and in my mediaplayer(s) ? Support for Flash is supposedly removed for (a lot of ??) websites (Youtube ?). But videos are still playing well on Youtube.
  10. New version of Windows Repair (v4.10.3) released. When using Registry Backup (from Windows Repair) it didn't properly run, it didn't do its job. I hope this now has been fixed. Source; https://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html I have no problems with Registry Backup but I use the stand-alone version on my Windows 7 system.
  11. - One thing that will help to speed up the defrag process is to (temporarily) disable System Restore. - When defragmenting an external drive I would only do a "simple defrag". Let the program analyze the disk and in the "file list" just simply tick all the boxes and hit "defrag checked".
  12. The former technical director (called "Bill Binney") of the NSA (of all organisations !!!) debunks in 2 videos the narrative that the russians hacked the servers of the (US) Democratic National Committee (DNC) in mid 2016. From that date onwards untill say mid 2018 (2019 ?) the US media all continued to accuse the russians of hacking the DNC servers and other "nefarious" activities from later dates (use your imagination). But Binney has found enough proof that shows that "the hack" was actually a leak form someone inside the DNC organisation (there were actually 2 (!!!) leakers). Binney also explains WHY the NSA probably had ZERO proof that the russians hacked the DNC server and why Edward Snowden was able to collect damaging information and copy that information and get away with it. All the information combined (in the videos and from other "alternative" sources on the internet) have made me VERY suspicious of any accusations that government A, B, C, ...... has hacked the US government departments (see my first post in this thread) or any other computer hack. The newspapers / websites have to provide some VERY SOLID evidence that A, B, C, .......... were performing that hack (as mentioned in the 1st post) before I start to believe any accusations. The 2 videos were published on december 14, 2017.
  13. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/u-s-treasury-commerce-depts-hacked-by-group-tied-to-foreign-government.435104/ The article states that it was the russians who did this hack. Yeah, sure, and I was born yesterday, right ? Washington DC was very "upset" about, what was called, "Russiagate" between say mid 2016 and early 2018 (2019 ?). And it turned out to be "a dud". And now, without proof, I am supposed to believe that the russians did this hack ? The hack could have been executed by the chinese as well. But Solarwind (the producer of the hacked software) also has "(some) egg" on its face. The Department of Homeland Secuity also seems to be affected. The guys who do all the spying are now hacked as well ? Oh the irony.
  14. - I could imagine that Win 10 doesn't allow you to defrag that system image file. There are more files that can't be de-fragmented by the program. Such as the files that are used for the System Restore feature in Windows 7 and higher. I think this has to do with the (infamous ??) socalled "permissions". That means that you don't have the appropriate level of permissions to defrag/touch/move that file.
  15. - New update for OE Classic available (version v3.1). Starting with this build/version the builds of OEC will contain both the Free & "Paid for" versions. To unlock the PRO features the user must "activate" the Free version with his/her license key. People who want to help to translate the program in more languages than those already available are still welcome to help out. @Airwolf4 You're not the only one who would love to see the program have an option to make OEC the default email client. The developers are saying that that this option ("default email client") is their "next project". Hope that this will be implemented in the next build and ASAP.
  16. Defraggler doesn't properly sort the numbers in the "Fragments" column in the "Search" tab (red arrow). Today I came across a telling example. In the 1st picture below there are 5 *.mp3 files of which 2 are not fragmented (blue arrows). These 2 files are the 2nd and 3rd file from the top of the list. When I click on the "Fragments" header (red arrow) then the program doesn't sort the list. It simply turns the "Fragments" list upside down (see 2nd picture). This is also confirmed by the sizes and names of all 5 files. Clicking on that header for a second time the list reverted back to its original situation (first picture).
  17. Suggestion: Currently Defraggler is able to defragment the pagefile (pagefile.sys). I would like to see that a new version of the program is aslo able to defragment other systemfiles like hiberfil.sys. I know that Windows 10 also has one or 2 additional (large) systemfiles (like pagefile.sys). Then these should also be defragmented by Defraggler.
  18. I must add that this "Exclude" option works throughout the entire program. E.g. it also works on the "file list" tab.
  19. @Pinfloid: This is indeed a problem/bug in Defraggler. And you are not the only one who has reported this/these bug(s). But CCleaner has (much) users than Defraggler and therefore Defraggler will have to wait until the developers decide they want to spend time fixing (a number of) bugs in the program. Alas. And given the amount of possibilities in the options menu it will give the developers a headache. If you want to move those files back to the beginning of the drive then you can do the following. Select Settings > Options > Exclude. There you must enter all folders that don't contain those music files. Then select in the main screen Advanced > Defrag Freespace to actually move those files back to the beginning of the drive.
  20. - Turn off System Restore. That will help to speed up the program - Let the program move LARGE files and files you rarely use to the end of the drive.
  21. @Kenmk: Post a screenshot of the Defraggler filemap. Could be very revealing.
  22. - No, the Snipping Tool in Windows 7 doesn't have such a "delay" function. - Interesting. Perhaps an additional reason to make the move to Windows 10.
  23. LIghtShot - This is a program to make a screenshot. The build-in tools (plural) in Windows all each have their limitations and drawbacks. E.g. if the user wants to make screenshot of an opened roll-down menu then e.g. the Snipping Tool (Windows 7) isn't able to do that. The Snipping Tool will close that menu. - But LighShot operates in a different way. It re-programs (very appropriately) the "Print screen" button/key on one's keyboard. That way e.g. an opened roll-down menu won't disappear and can be captured in the screenshot. - The program is not as powerful as other screenshot programs which have tonnes and tonnes of (editing) options. The program has only a limited amount of editing options (draw lines, rectangles, arrows, add text, highlight text). And that's PRECISELY the reason why I like it so much. It's lightweight. And I never had any major problems with the program. Website: https://app.prntscr.com/nl/download.html
  24. - Did some more testing and it turns out that CC does remove the thumbnail caches and that without restarting Explorer.exe. - And those caches are rebuild and grow with each folder the user opens. Then more and more icons & thumbnails are added to those caches. - I also noticed that Windows does not write those caches to disk the moment changes are made or the caches grow in size. It seems that Windows waits with writing to disk until the user shuts down his system.
  25. - Agree. But if Ccleaner doesn't want to kill & restart "Explorer.exe" (needed for removing those thumbnail caches) then this option ("Clean thumbnail caches") should be removed as well.
