- The main problem here is that Piriform hasn't released a new and improved version of Defraggler for a while. I use the word "improved" because there still a number of bugs in the program code that need to be fixed.
(Perhaps this post is able to persuade the developers to improve the program code in the near future ??)
-
- The main problem is that there's still no new version of Defraggler availalble. In spite that the program code still contioans a number of bugs that require action from the Piriform developers.
-
- Didn't install it yet. Although I have downloaded the Stand-Alone version for Windows 7 and the appropriate language package.
- Whenever possible I always download the individual update installation files. It allows me to install Win 7 without going out on the internet (think: viruses and other malware).

- Some programs simpy only work with .NET

MS issued a new .NET Framework version. It's version v4.7.

- About SMART values:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.
@kevin: Some "critical" attributes (&B8, &BB) have high values. And the "Wear Out Indicator" is also very high.
Run SSD Life on your system. It's better suited for SSDs.
-
- To be frank I rarely do a full defrag of my HD. I only defragment the fragmented files.
- Sometimes a drive starts to fail after only a few months. A number of SMART values are at worrying highs.
- A more convenient way to show the SMART info is the following: Run Piriform's SPECCY. Then select (File >> Publish Snapshot) and post the link that pops up in your next reply. That snapshot also will show the SMART values of your HD.

- Ransomware on my washingmachine. LOL
- But this kind of photoshopping does highlight the vulnerability of the "Internet of things" to outside "attacks". (There was a discussion on this topic here on this forum).
-
- It means that the HD could be in the 1st stages of failing. Run the progrma again, open the "Health" tab. Does any of the lines show up in a pink or red color ? Post a screenshot then we can see what's wrong with the "health" of the HD.

- Microsoft is not "too happy" with the NSA's action/neglect regarding this vulnerability in the Windows OS.
- Didn't MS know that there are large organisations (like the NHS) that are still using the XP OS ?
-
- "Bleeping Computer" also had this article on how to disable the ransom-ware:
-
- But Vista was already covered in the March 2017 patch up update. Because support for Vista was dropped after april of 2017.
- Win 8 (NOT Win 8.1 !!!) wasn't covered as well.
My info came from this article:
-
- Well, and the NHS is "swimming in the money", right ?? Seems they don't have the money to switch to a newer OS.
- Yes, I have updated my Win 7 system with that March update and I don't open suspect emails. So, I should be fine.

- Is that the Peak District National Park ?

AT&T and Verizon want to earn extra money by selling user's browsing history.

- I could imagine that Defraggler has "a conflict" with some other program. But the question is: which program ?
-
- Found another small bug in DF. The user is able to click on a place on the drivemap. If there're files placed in that particular spot then DF will list those files that are located there. But then the file list fails to give an indication on how the list is sorted. There's no Arrow head displayed in one of the headers of the file list. In this one particular case the program code forgets to make the arrowhead show up.
See also the picture in the weblink:
https://1drv.ms/i/s!AluvxwylJSzygRnD2AT08SavZGV9
Only when I sort that list (for the 1st time) an Arrow head will show up. Every time after that I sort the file list then that Arrow head keeps showing up (as it should).

- Install PcWinTech's CLEANMEM. It reduces every 10 minutes memory usage.
-
- Did you do a "Full Defrag" ?
- I personally only defrag the fragmented files and only rarely do a full defrag. Precisely because a full defrag does take so much time.
-
- Came across another odd thing. Sometimes the DF drivemap fails to correctly show which spots on a drive are and aren't occupied by files.
See the picture (weblink) for an example.
- The DF drivemap thinks that the yellow blocks contain files but when I click on of the yellow blocks, DF reports "No files found".
- DF also makes another error. When I click on the black blocks then DF reports that one or more files are stored in that particular block. But the DF drivemap tells another story, the drive map says that these blocks don't contain any files at all. These blocks then show up in white.
(In the picture I only changed the color of a few blocks - eleven in total - in the picture to black & yellow).

- Based on my limited (!!!!) knowledge, I could make a case that the WMI database is corrupted and needs to be rebuild. There're programs that can do that (e.g. Tweaking's Windows Repair, repair #5 in that program can do that job).
-
- Took a look at all my reported bugs and I think that the issue mentioned in post #39 is the worst bug in the program code and I think it has therefore the highest priority on the list of bugs.
(Yes, I keep nagging)

- @Razz: Is your computer behind a (WiFi) router ? If so, then already a lot of viruses & other malware are eliminated (by the router). Don't know the details on how it works but it works.
-
- The behaviour of moving files to the end of the drive, as described in post #39 in this thread, also happens when I use a different method of moving files towards the end of the drive. I.e. when I use the "Defrag" options. (See picture in the weblink).
New .NET version available

- Installing .NET on a XP system is a nightmare. One thinks that the installation has failed becasue it takes so much time.
- .NET v4.7 is a good reason for a new SPECCY version.
