  1. - Came across another bug in DF v2.21. - I have a USB (v3.0) SSD drive of 500 GB that's being used to backup all important files that are stored on my HD (also some 500 GB in size). An SSD has no moving parts and that's an advantage over a USB HD drive. DF recognized that the filing system on the SSD is "exFAT". DF noted there were a number of fragmented directory files. I told DF to defragment those directory files and DF performed that task well. (at least, that was based on what I saw happening on the drive map). - But now here's the problem. DF failed to determine the size of those directory files. DF said that the size of all those directory files were all 0 (zero) bytes. And I DO know the directory files were not zero bytes in size because some of those directories contained A LOT OF (large) files.
  2. - WIZTREE v3.11 has been released.
  3. - It could be caused by something else. e.g.: 1) Windows making a new system restore point. 2) Windows increasing the size of the pagefile. Or any of the 3) Any other piece of software updating itself. 4) .......................... 5) Or a combination of the above.
  4. - You indeed can speed it up. Move anything between say 10% to 25% of the drive's content to another drive, defrag the drive and then move that previously moved content back. When you move the content back then the OS will try to keep the defragmentation as low as possible.
  5. - I have a request for people who re-install Windows 7 & Windows Vista on a regular basis (MTA ? Hazelnut ?). - The request is the following: When you have installed Windows (again) then please run the latest Tweaking's "Svchost Look up tool". Can you tell me what the switches are for "Svchost.exe" that runs/controls the WMI Service ? (the tool can export the info to a text file) http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/tweaking_com_svchost_exe_lookup_tool.html - FYI: The process "Svchost.exe" is the host for several Services that can be run with several different switches. There was some discussion with which switches "Svchost.exe" should be run when it wants to control/manage the WMI Service. There's the suspicion that changing that switch (from "-k winmgmt" to "-k netsvcs") for the WMI Service will cause errors/problems on a Windows 7 and Vista system. http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php/topic,5442.0.html
  6. - I have switched off the treemap (F9) and switched on the filetypes info (F8) in WIZTREE v3.10. This is the way I like the latest WIZTREE program.
  7. - WIZTREE has taken a very good look at WinDirStats. Don't know if am going to like it. Perhaps I'll go back to version v2.01.
  8. - Add the size of the System Restore Points (SRP). Then the user is able to make a better informed decision whether or not he/she wants to delete a SRP. - (I - at least - hope it's possible to pull up the size of each individual SRP. Was this already suggested before ???)
  9. - I'll need to provide more info. - In Win XP the standard photo/picture viewer was able to "play" animated GIFs. It recognized that a picture was an animated GIF file and was able to show the animation. - But the picture/photo viewer that came with Win 7 doesn't "play" the animation anymore. - I tried IRFAN but the program had its own ideas what the proper "play" speed should be for the frames inside the GIF picture. Sometimes it was (way) too fast compared to the standard build-in photo/picture viewer (in XP) or in the browser (e.g. Internet Explorer of Firefox).
  10. - Can anyone recommend a program that is able to play an animated GIF file outside a webbrowser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) ? - From time to time there're some VERY nice animated GIFs pictures. I tried IRFAN but there the GIFs sometimes are played (way) too fast.

  12. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/hardware/firmware-update-bricks-samsung-smart-tvs-in-the-uk/#cid6120 - I thought it only could happen with computers. LOL.
  13. - There's another thing that's "bugging" me. When I order DF to do a "Defrag Freespace" with a lot of folders added to the "Exclude" list then DF fails to do its job properly. By using this option DF will move selected folders\files to the beginning of the drive. But when I let DF re-analyze that drive then it becomes clear DF didn't move every file (that should have been moved) towards the beginning of the drive. - I use this option (Defrag Freespace") to move files located in a number of systemfolders ("C:\windows", "C:\users", "C:\Program Files", etc.) to the beginning of the drive. All other files are moved to the end of the drive. Keeping my HD organized this way, has kept my system running surprisingly smoothly, in spite of having my HD filled with a lot of files (only 17% free space). - I would love to see that the folks at Piriform would issue a new version of Defraggler. I am looking forward to a new improved version of DF.
  14. - The latest changes in the program code of versions v4.xx require that I must update post #163. To make sure that running Windows Repair doesn't "break" VSS on a Vista system the user needs to take the following into account. If the user selects repair #4 then the user also needs to run repair #18 (was repair #19). - Didn't have the time (yet) to go through the program code to see whether or not this unwanted behaviour (breaking VSS on a Vista system) has been fixed in v4.xx.
  15. - News regarding OEC can also be followed on Twitter & Facebook: https://twitter.com/infobytehr https://www.facebook.com/oeclassic - A next version will support multiple languages (incl. e.g. dutch). See Twitter & Facebook (above). - Still no news when OEC will support IMAP. The latest bit of news was that the OEC guys "were working on it".
  16. - Tweaking's Windows Repair version v4.02 has been released. It seems version v4.00 still had some problems that forced the author to reverse some code changes. - Feedback, suggestions, bugreports etc. are still VERY welcome. Post them on the forum of Tweaking.com.
  17. - I hope that the bug in WR - as mentioned in post #163 in this thread - is fixed as well. Haven't had the time to test the program that extensively.
  18. - Tweaking's Windows Repair has advanced to a new version (Version 4). The latest build is version v4.0.1. - The basic features are still available for free. - Those who have bought the version 3 PRO program can still access those PRO 3 features in version 4. For the extra PRO features in version 4 one needs to buy a new license key. For more details: http://www.tweaking.com/
  19. - I saw that as well. http://money.cnn.com/2017/07/24/technology/microsoft-kills-paint/index.html?iid=surge-story-summary
  20. - I came across the problem (as described above) again and made a screenshot. See attachment. - Does this happen as well when the Task bar is on the top of the (visible) screen and at other places of the (visible) screen ?
  21. - Another thing that needs to be improved in the next version of DF: DF doesn't Always take into account that I have the Taskbar on the left hand side of the screen. This odd behaviour occurs when I want to shrink DF to its previous (non maximized) size. Then the left hand part of the GUI is "hiding" under the Task Bar.
  22. - There are still a number of (small) annoying bugs in OE Classic. Even in v2.7.
  23. - And how much was Avast willing to pay ? - I do hope nothing changes here at this forum and that the developers will remain to improve the Piriform products/software.
  24. - Agree. The smartphone platform targeted is indeed missing. - The worrysome thing is that this exploit has been used for a "nefarious" purpose. - The entire story (keyword: exploit) makes it clear that one SHOULD regularly patch up one's smartphone/computer(-system).
