  1. I only own 5% of tweaking now. So its under new control lol

I did buy a new domain that I'm going to be making software on but it isn't up just yet.

Windows repair burned me out, and honestly my divorce in 2017 really broke me, when you find out about your brother and wife it can brake a man. So with all that and the stress of Windows repair I was glad to let it go.

I am much better now, I'm 44 and in the best shape Ive ever been in mentally and physically. I'm ready to get back to my old self and get back to programming.

The new site, which isn't up yet is going to be pure me, no business partners and such. I am working on a drive cleaner right now and then will come up with other ideas. This time programs I don't need to stress about as I had to with Windows Repair lol

The domain I bought is SirSoft.io for Sirs Software lol, Trying to think of a logo design that I will use A.I to help me make, either a knights helmet or a top hat and mustache lol

I have been gone for a while, life knocked me out, took so time but I got up, brushed myself off and now I'm back.

  2. Yeah a lot more updates to come. I found it was better to do a few things per update, that way if any unforeseen problems happen I will know exactly what caused it. And with the huge list of things I want to add to the Windows Repair it will take some time to get them all done.

When I do a ton of things in one update it is too easy for me to make a simple coding mistake, and I would prefer to not do that lol

So I have sort of set my self on a release on monday or tuesday schedule. If I am able to get the time to get the update done during the week I release on one of the following mon or tues. Each update is improvements or new repairs. Since it is a repair tool I am always adding new things for more repairs. So with this program, updates are a good thing :-)

  3. 3 Fresh installs of Windows 7 today (3 different computers), all updates and the new version hasnt done anything bad to the systems.

I haven't tested it on XP yet as I haven't had a xp reinstall in a while.

They went from 4.4 to 4.5 I wonder if there was any improvements, to bad MS doesn't put out change logs for it.

  4. Windows defender on 8, which is just this, is still at the 4.4.304 version. But I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 on a customers machine, installed 4.4.304 from my installs folder and the new version does come up in the Windows updates. Yet MS still hasnt updated their main download page with it yet, odd.

  5.

if you have a firewall enabled please disable it or an an exception for reimagerepair.exe & try again .

reimagerepair.exe isnt my Windows Repair program :-)

You clicked on the ad at the top of the stie instead of the download link just a little further down the page. The actual file name for Tweaking.com - Windows Repair installer is tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio_setup.exe or the portable zip file tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio.zip

When you run my tool make sure to have it do a registry backup first just in case. System restore really isnt needed as no files are replaced or moved with the repairs, 95% of the repairs have to do with permissions and the Windows registry, which is where about 99% of Windows problems come from lol

Let me know if the program was able to help you at all.

And a side note for anyone else, my Windows Repair doesnt not require internet access what so ever. The only time it accesses the net is when you first open it so it can check if there is a updated versions, which you can even turn off. Other than that it never touches in internet and has no need to. B)

  6. Happy to help. I use MS on all my systems and all my customers (I run a computer repair business)

I had noticed high spikes in CPU when doing anything and it happened more on XP than others but it happens to them all. So I started digging and found that trick, tested it and wow it worked lol.

So now I do that as my default every time I install it.

Of course me being somewhat OCD and a performance nut I couldnt ignore it lol

  7. I added the mof and mlf files to the WMI repair, so any 3rd party software that added itself to WMI should get added back now :-)

Which was on that link Willy2 posted

    for /f %%s in ('dir /s /b *.mof *.mfl') do mofcomp %%s

    Good find bud :-D

  8. In case your wondering about the bug Willy2 is talking about he posted it here to let me know

    http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php/topic,643.msg5358.html#msg5358

I will be looking to it today or tomorrow. Keep in mind the program is still safe and fine to use. The odd bug he reported is after you open the repair window, close it then go back in.

If your wondering Willy2 is one of the best testers I have ever had. No one picks apart my programs like him, he is kinda anal about it lol But he does help make my work better :-)

I can fix any bug that I can replicate. So I ill be looking into this as soon as I am done with my jobs today.

  9. (I was gonna ask on Shane's forum but it wouldn't send me an activation email to register and I know many here use it so asking here)

Let me know what your email is and I can check :-)

I know cleanmem settings allow it to work only on a specific program, but is it even possible to have a schedule for general mem clean, and one for cleaning a specific program? (and if so how)

The advanced monitor int he mini monitor is the best way and easiest way to do it.

To do it manually you will want to put cleanmem in a 2nd folder. There you put the settings in the cleanmem_settings file. And have the task scheduler run the cleanmem.exe from that folder.

Dont use the cleanmem settings exe, it will simply overwrite your current settings on the system.

  10. CleanMem v2.4.2 Released!

    http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem

    v2.4.2

Cleaning of the File Cache is now disabled by default. There are times where cleaning it helps improve performance and sometimes it doesn't depending what the system is doing at the time. So best to let the user decide to have it enabled.

Added a new menu option to the mini monitor to manually clean the file cache. This new option is part of the free and pro versions :-)

CleanMem and all of its exe's are now terminal services aware.

  11. I wonder if it would be possible to create a Start Menu program group link to manually run the System File Cache Cleaner, that way it could be left off as default however the user could manually initiate a cleaning with it if they deemed it necessary?

Reason I ask is my system was slowing down so I ran the Mini Monitor, and after it cleaned the file cache things became normal again.

If it isn't one thing it's another, this is so strange how cleaning the file cache can cause a slow down, and then in another instance a speed increase - it's almost like a contradition but there it is it exists.

Adding the menu option to manually clean the file cahce would give me a good reason to make a new version. PLus since cleaning the file cache is part of the free cleanmem and the auto feature is part of the pro I will make the new menu feature part of the free as well :-)

SO I will make v2.4.2 today, have file cahce off by defult and have a right click option on the mini monitor :-)

    Shane

  12. To better clarify:

I've only used the Mini Monitor twice just to run those tests Willy requested. However the rest of the time I only have CleanMem do its work via Task Scheduler which is where/from that slow down came from. Hope that helps you a bit.

That is what is odd. Cleanmem runs from the task scheduler than closes, it isnt running in the background. So disabling the file cache shouldnt have made any different for a little while since it is only ran when cleanmem runs.

None the less I am still going to disable it by default :-)

Listening to users is how you make a program better.

    Shane

  13. Odd, I have the clean file cache option set on mine and never get the slow down.

Also clean mem only cleans the file cache when cleanmem runs, so disabling ti and immmeditaly seeing a differance shouldnt of happened. In the mini monitor it has a timer and cleans the file cache as well when it is enabled. This is seperate from cleanmem.

The main reason why I added the clear file cache was from my own system. When ever I did a backup my system slowed to a crawl. I checked the file cache and it was huge. When I cleared it everything increased in speed again. So I added that option to cleanmem. It is just flushing the file data from memory to the hard drive. (This is a good thing in case a power outage as well)

At the same time if you have a lot of file data that has to be reloaded I can see that causing a slow down as it has to read the data off the disk again.

Perhaps having it off by default is the best idea, and let the user decide to turn it back on.

This slow down I had was when I was on XP. Since Windows 7 things have really improved, perhaps there is no need to have it on by default.

Some side notes, my system is setup a little different.

I am on Win 7 64bit, 8gb of ram. Page file disabled and memory tweaks in the registry to tell windows to load more core files into memory instead of the page file.

My system runs very snappy compared to the when the page file is on and the meory tweaks are disabled. (The page file is dependent on the speed of the drive)

I think I will go ahead and updated the cleanmem setup with the clear file cache disabled.
