If you install the modified for Firefox only version, then install SiteAdvisor from their website it will replace v26.6 with v28.0 and that new version will be in both IE and Firefox.
So then if you use this system you can only install it on Firefox and not IE? Unless you find an old version for IE. Here is an older version I found.

The reason I ask is when I installed it, it used only 1 installer for both IE & firefox. In firefox there is no option to uninstall it. You have to do it through control panel and of course that will uninstall it for both.

What if you uninstall siteadvisor, then install your modified version and then install it for IE, will it mess up the firefox install?

The included help file IE80BlockerHelp.htm has all the information in it that allows for verifying the patch works.
Let's say you extract the contents of the toolkit into C:\Temp these would be the instructions:
Here's how to use the IE8 Blocker Toolkit on standard desktop PCs:1. Run the package IE8BlockerToolkit.EXE and extract it into a folder such as: C:\Temp2. Start a command prompt and copy+paste or type this command into it, then hit enter: "C:\Temp\IE80Blocker.cmd" /B3. Check this registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\8.0 You should see a key with this value: DoNotAllowIE804. Done!
...or if you don't want to mess around with the .CMD file you could use .REG files
Do Not Allow IE8: Save as "DoNotAllowIE8.reg"

The help file says to run this to enable it, but it didn't work on my system:
IE80Blocker.cmd mycomputer /B
This did however work:
IE80Blocker.cmd /B
Subsequently just double-clicking IE80Blocker.cmd works too.
I'm using Vista and tried this command from the command prompt from the start menu and it did not work. Could you give detailed instructions on how to do this, so the dummy that I am can do it?

Try Tweak UAC:
This enables you to set UAC to a low level so that you will not receive Administrator promts.

Thanks for that, I downloaded it and ran it, and all seem to work fine, the only thing I see is that even if I pick "quiet" Windows shows the little security warning saying that the UAC is "deactivated". I looked around on the site of the author of the little program but did not find any information as to this warning.

Thanks to all and even though I consider myself a power user, I agree with Caldor about leaving UAC on. I feel it is another safe guard from something sneaking in. I guess I will just have to get use to the fact that it is going to ask each time for permission, small price to pay for a little more security.

Sure:
Turn off Vista UAC
1. Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.
2. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAP" (this should probably change to UAC in next Vista beta builds and in the RTM version). Click on that line.
3. Press the Launch button.
4. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.
5. Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

Thanks for the advice to disable UAC, but I really want to leave that active. What I do not understand is why all the other programs I have do not trip UAC and CCleaner is the only one that does. I had hoped there was a way to adjust or change CCleaner so that this would not happen.

Hope someone can help. I just had to change computers and of course now have Vista, please no arguments about whether vista is good or bad I can't change the OS, well in the change I installed the latest CCleaner and I right clicked on the file and chose "run as administrator" but each time I click on the icon to run CCleaner UAC kicks in and asks if I am sure, is there any way around this without disabling UAC?
Please forgive me if my spelling is bad, English is not my first language.

I experienced an error while running the "Cleaner," I have Gutmann (35 passes) enabled.
This error launched in the background, and didn't affect my session with the program at all. I noticed this when I closed CCleaner.
Sorry I can't provide more details.. the error reporting is some-what lacking them
Note: When I clicked "Close" after writing this post, another (a duplicate?) window with the same information popped up, maybe two errors were encountered? I don't know

When closing the lastest version of CCleaner I got the following error:

Edit -- I decided until this was fixed to go back the the version 2.01.507 and of course the error is gone, the other thing I noticed is that 2.01.507 is somewhat faster than 2.02.525.

Although I'm not sure why the cleaning of Statistics.ini is a necessity.

I don't know either, but those are the lines that were in the orignal winapp.ini shipped with CCleaner so I included them. Should that line be deleted?

I just updated to SypBot S&D 1.51 and CCleaner no longer lists SpyBot SD in the Aplicattions for cleaning. Is their a way to correct it?
I found that the entry in the winapp.ini for spybot 1.4 was the following:

eew, single button on its own row, no way. Already have Site Hound filling that space tho like site adviser Site Hound is in accurate as well with less info.
I agree as well, they should let us move the button, plus I don't like the fact that we have to have javascript working on the site for it to show the results when you pass over the icon.
I do like the fact that you can select the types of content that you want to show as red, that is a really nice feature. Maybe in the future if they change the 2 things I mentioned above, I may switch.

Well that concerns me and I'm sure that the experts on this forum will get to the bottom of this.
When I first installed CCleaner I checked off each application one at a time and ran analyze to see what it found. I than followed the paths to see what was there. After I learned about winapp.ini and actually added Ewido 4 to CCleaner that way. So when I installed AVG a few days ago I looked a the winapp.ini entries and they don't look right. Some of the entries are not logs and there are logs in the AVG folders that are not targeted by CCleaner. So until this is cleared up I will not check off AVG.
One thing to keep in mind though is AVG Free is very popular and there are many users. I have not red of one instance of CCleaner damaging AVG. I am new to AVG and have not spent much time on thier forum but I will do some searches and maybe post some questions there.
Just for your info you have to register during the installation of AVG to be able to post on thier forums. It seems you cannot unless you have installed AVG at some point.

I started off with AVG free and then went to AVG+Firewall, because on the Zonealarm free page, it says that their free firewall did not work on wireless, so I looked for something else & decided if I was going to pay for a firewall, AVG with firewall & virus seemed logical and I do like it. I have had no problems with it.
One of the things if I remember right that CCleaner is going to clean if some of the old virus definitions that have "built up", then I don't remember the rest, but my feelings are if there is any doubt, I have enough disk space to leave them there, so I will.

Did a few definition updates and ran a few scans with AVG to create some logs. I than ran CCleaner and cleaned everything but AVG. I than checked marked AVG and ran analyze with CCleaner so only the AVG data would show up. Take a look. Those paths don't look like the ones in the winapp.ini.

I have seen all of this and I was a little concerned, so I wrote Grisoft and they said "under no circumstances clean these areas". Now they may or may not know what they are talking about, but I have never wanted to take the chance of cleaning them. With the size of hard dirves today, space is really not that much of a quetion and I did not want to take the chance.
I know that I could get flamed for this response, but thought I would pass along what they said.

The more I think about the fact that I can leave my "custom folders" in the list and if I decide sometime I don't was to clean them all I have to do is uncheck the box, then when I want to clean them recheck the box. That is really nice. Makes it really simple. A very good idea!!!!

are you sure thats the right folder?
try going to start then run.
type that in using your name in place of "myname".
press enter and it should open up that folder.
let me know if it does.

Tried what you said, worked fine to open the directory. I know it is the right directory, since I set it up that way so I could make AVG scan from inside ZIP files.

I am using the latest version of CCleaner and Windows XP SP2 all updates. I have entered a custom folder to be cleaned, but when I run cleaner if there are files in the folder they do not get deleted. Here is the location of the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\myname\Local Settings\PowerArchiver Temp Files
Can you see any reason, for example the spaces in the name, why cleaner won't clean this out when added to the custom folders?

I hope someone can help with this as its really peeing me off. My Windows (XP Home) has started prompting me for a Username and password instead of the normal Welcome screen and automatic logon I've always used. I went to Control Panel>User Accounts>Change way users log on or off, and the 'Use the Welcome Screen' box IS ticked but it still gives the log on prompt at startup. I even tried unticking the Welcome Screen tickbox, restarting then reticking the box to see if that would encourage it to work but it didn't. I used to be able to start Windows without any prompt of any sort, just turned the computer on and Windows would startup so this is a nuisance.
Tried system restore but this issue still persists. Also tried restoring an ERUNT reg backup but that also didn't work.
Any ideas anyone? (please)

Did you happen to install the Microsoft.NET Framework version 2 when you updated Windows? If so it created another account and that will obligate you to use the login screen as Tarun said, since now there is more than one account. I had this problem on a laptop and deleted Microsoft.NET Framework version 2, then the account it created and all worked fine.

It lists everything CC removes from AVG which is already applied updates, logs, and history.

Thanks I will give it a look and see if I can figure it all out. I noticed in some of those direcotires that the files go back as far as March of this year. That is a lot of things that are probably useless at this point.
