  1. Something else found relevant to a fix of background "whiteout."

If the Forum experts frown on this, or find it needs correction, please let us know!

Try this: Firefox Tools>Options>General> click on "Fonts and Colors." Go to "Always use my" and, if checked, uncheck "Colors:" >OK "Fonts and Colors," >OK "General," Refresh/reload page. See result.

The main point is that "Always use my: Colors" when checked, will produce the background colors that are indicated in "Text and Background", and if overidden ("Use System Colors" checked) at the same time, the background will be white.

Further, if you choose custom link colors and overide text and background custom colors, (check "Use system colors"), the background will be white!

I played around with "Text and Background" and "Link Colors" for a while - very interesting! This user is very green and found this a good place in FirefoxTools to play happily and get used to an aspect of working a PC. (Don't think that Internet Explorer is as easy!) You can't mess up! Just jot down the settings when you start, play around, and go back when finished. Or you may want to stay with your very own pretty Forum page!

  2. Whoever is responsible, that signature is OUTRAGEOUS!

The forum will deteriorate badly if a moderator lets C-R-A-P like that in. Libellous, slanderous!

Moderators should moderate, not (if it's true that there's messing around) agitate.

DjLizard, you're GOOD for us! But if you left, who wouldn't understand!

  3. What in the hell?

    DjL and all,

Well, I've looked into this (extensive Googleing) and "Move system caret........" need only be checked in special circumstances, at which time you would be prompted. So I've left it clear.

For some internal reason, in this case, unchecking cleared the "problem." Obviously not a fix for all!

Why it was checked on this PC I have no idea, but I do know that I did have things happening, (that I did not understand), when clicking on text. I had thought "glitch" and ignored it. Now that little puzzle has gone!

So, anyone could try this - it couldn't hurt! If you're checked, uncheck. If for any reason you need it - recheck!

Now I feel more sane! ~_~ ommmmm.............

  4. (Started new topic as old thread seemed to die!) :o;)

Thanks guys for all your attempts in "Help" by misty33 (Jul 13). Here's my fix:

    Firefox Tools>Options>Advanced>Accessibility>uncheck: "Move system caret.........."

And there was color! After, went back and re-checked "Move system caret.........." and color remained! (Fix found by trial and error only - green luck!). All seems OK.*

misty33, ONLY if DjLizard, rridgely or Tarun agree, try this. Hope it helps you! :D

    *After shutdown, restart.

  5. Thanks DjLizard, you tried your best! (Today I found what "X_X" means!!!) The cause of the "whiteout" is somewhere in the PC and surely needs a hands on tech. Not worth bothering with - it's a zero item. Nothing to do with CCleaner Forum! o/~

  6. DjLizard, to further burden you, on looking into your last paragraph, this --------- Start>Run>"firefox.exe-profilemanager" produced "not found." Then Start>Search (full) produced "no result." <_<:lol: I am confused!

  7. DjLizard, I'm struggling here! (Yes, I did try control+refresh - no luck.) Going to 2b) - it opened a file with 2 folders: "Default User" and "default.7zm" - now what? On to 3a) Sorry, quite unclear (to me) what you mean by "copy and paste the line below." You'll feel like you're dealing with an idiot, I'm afraid. Going into the "inner workings, (although not very deeply), is strange. :( Did copy and paste those folders though! Thanks if you want to go forward - greenuser (very  )

  8. DjLizard, I stopped IE asserting itself over the designated default browser, Firefox, by going into IE Tools and just unchecking "IE should check whether default browser" in Options>Programs. :) Now let's see about the dreaded "whiteout." <_<

  9. DjLizard, no Firefox Preloader here. I'll try all your suggestions within a day or two. My wife's PC has no problem and I installed 1.21.130 in the same manner, so it's some tricky little thing somewhere in mine. To state the obvious! Thanks! Edit/brainwave: I'm going to check that settings match up on both PC's - maybe find something?

  10. DjLizard, my last post didn't express thanks to you for coming forward with suggestions. Perhaps I sounded dismissive? Not my intent at all! You're always very helpful to those of us who are so inadequate around computers - thanks again! :D Best wishes!

  11. Tried going into IE tools proceedure then closed. On reopening no question re default browser appears. Open firefox, check for default browser, close, go to CCleaner - same thing - IE and Firefox come up. I can live with this :) and forum format is no big deal (I can use IE if I want the works! ) It's a good feeling though, when everything runs as expected :D Incidentally I changed my default browser to Firefox, carrying out your instructions to another poster recently, and all was fine until the new CCl. install :( But so what? I'll try your suggestions re safe mode and profile manager, etc sometime - don't hold your breath!!!!

  12. We get this a lot - people post about CCleaner's forum [or any other site] losing all of its formatting, but still being accessible [it's all white]... usually this is because they ran CCleaner while Firefox is open, which corrupts Firefox's cache.  Clearing Firefox's cache always solves the problem.  My post was really a total assumption, but I'm pretty sure that it's going to solve the issue.

Same white background for me (only Firefox, IE OK) since installing new version CCleaner yesterday. Tried clearing Firefox cache as you suggested, DjLizard. No change. At the same time, although Firefox comes up as default browser it is "jumped" by IE, if you know what I mean. This all when clicking bottom left CCleaner. Help? Thanks if you can! :)

  13. i just realized something.. if you run the issue scanner on a computer that has never been scanned, then you get  a ton of issues.  but then you can run it again right after you delete all the issues and still get even more! why doesnt CCleaner find those the first time? i ran it 4 times on my friends computer before it didnt find anything.

PS  I am talking about the reg cleaner not the crap cleaner.

If you don't want to carry crap and such - WHY DO YOU CARRY THAT CRAP SIGNATURE!

  14. Ah I totally recognize that error.  Easy to fix. :)

Go into Internet Explorer (Start, Run, IEXPLORE).  Tools>Internet Options. Programs tab, Reset Web Settings.. yes.  Tell IE to check whether it's the default browser.  Close IE.  Re-open IE.  IE may ask you if IE can be the default browser.  Uncheck the box that says 'always perform this check', but answer YES, so IE is now the default browser.  Close IE.  Open Firefox, go into FF's options, and set FF as the default browser.  http:// from the run line should work again, and CCleaner's URLs should take you to Firefox instead of IE.

Had the same "problem" as alexn817- all CC stuff came up on IE. Followed your clear step by step instructions......aaaand......voila! Firefox it is! If only we knew - thanks a whole bunch Dj L :):D:lol:

  15. I use Zonealarm & am happy with it. I am sure though that if someone wanted to get through the firewall they would & could. My Father always taught me that locks were there to honest people honest, that the thief would get through anyway. :o

    Have a good day,

    Normandie

Normandie, thanks! Good reminder for our heads - that can get very wound up by security matters  Ultimately there IS no security! Only luck (chance) good or bad. You have a good day too.
