  1. IECookiesView v1.73 Cookies viewer-manager for Internet Explorer (zipfile 94 kB). No installation. Portable. In menu 'File' -> 'Installation Options' can be checked "Show a cookies button in Internet Explorer toolbar".
  2. Download Autoruns for Windows (564 kB). No installation needed. Run "autoruns.exe" (! that is not "autorunsc.exe"). Choose tab "Boot Execute". The line with Image Path c:\windows\system32\autochk.exe must only have the Autorun Entry autocheck autochk *. Erase the other mentions from that Entry. You can do that by rightclicking that line and choose "Jump to...". Rightclick "BootExecute" and Edit. Now the things that are more than autocheck autochk * on that same line you can erase. Don't change the other lines (if there are any)!!! Edit: From Microsoft - Note Do not delete the default value, autocheck autochk *, from the value of BootExecute. Caution: Do not make mistakes in the registry!!! Edit: You can also run the program directly from the site without have to download it.
  3. The previous post was not complete??? Edit: Oh, suddenly now it is. ??? But that I can do also when CCleaner was runned first. Edit: Oh, I think you mean you have to do only 1 action (2 clicks) and with CCleaner first it is more.
  4. Why prior to CCleaner? What is the difference with running CCleaner first (= less files to defrag)?
  5. MFT in 3 fragments is normal. Yours is 2. (That is the minimum possible). It comes never to 1. So there's no need to defrag the MFT. PS: My MFT is 142 MB for 128.017 MFT-records and 88% in use. (A record is normaly 1 kB).
  6. The purple blocks are only the "reserved space" for MFT (for when it grows). Not the actual MFT (103 MB). That reserved space can and will be used for normal data once the partition becomes full. Then only the purple blocks shrink. (Normally it is 12,5% of the entire partition size). Comes from here: NTFS.com Hard Drive Fragmentation.Define Cluster Size Properly Nota: The built-in windows-defragmenter defragments the MFT. I tested it. Went from 9 fragments to 3. (To see it in the report the defragmenter must be closed and opened again). That was in XP.
  7. Very good tip. Thank you! I defragged 4 huge files (each between 1 and 2 GB) in minutes this way.
  8. Free Reg Defrag shows the % gain expected in an analyse before the optimizing and Ntregopt does not.
  9. I think that when we do a "whole disk" defrag there is also an optimizing by good positioning of the files. What is used for that? I have set the "NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate" to 1 in the registry. (Because the av-progam (Avira AntiVir) constantly sets that last accessed date and time to the now moment by the realtime guard). Now the last access date is the date when I disabled it. By new or modified files it = the modified date. Is the optimize thing uses this last access date? If so, what is the concequense disabling this last access-update? Is it good or bad? I find this last access date irrelevant because of the constantly changing it in many files to the now by the av-guard which is always controlling files randomly even if I do nothing on the pc.
  10. I use this PageDefrag and it defragments the registry at every boot. And also the pagefile.sys and the hiberfil.sys. (Not for Vista!) But I think it only defragment but not optimise it. Because I just installed "Free Registry Defrag" mentioned by "CeeCee" here: Erunt-Ngtropt - Piriform Forums and I did the analyse. It said there would be a gain of 10% when optimizing.
  11. I put some files (>1000 MB) at the end of the drive when defragging the whole disk. (This works only when doing the 'whole disk' defrag). Now it is impossible to do 'defrag free space' without them coming back to the middle of the disk! Also when those files at the end of the disk are defragged seperately they come back! So I don't put files at the end anymore.
  12. @davey, Thanks for the reply and the links. Now I understand it better.
  13. I don't understand the explanation. I think he uses the word "defragmentation" instead of "fragmentation".
