  1. Thanks thm. Since Technet doesn't provide much info (standard) do you know if there are minimum free space requirements in order to convert the drive? Right now I have 41GB used and 27.5GB free on this super slow laptop drive. Any ballpark figure how long you think it'd take? BTW: I've spent the last two days attempting to use the RC2 to defragment this drive. The symptoms haven't changed. It moves large files around over and over but won't defrag them. So Piriform folks, this is not a release candidate as far as FAT32 drives are concerned.
  2. That's a good idea. I'm just not sure how to do it and I'd worry I'd mess something up.
  3. This latest release candidate, while an improvement in appearance and the ability to defrag free space, still sucks when it comes to defragging my FAT32 laptop. In fact, now it says 99% defragmented when over half the hard drive has yet to be defragmented. Large files still seem to crap out your program. This is the same 70GB laptop drive with 27.7GB free. With all that space to show Status and Properties, I still wonder why you keep the keep the Drive Map Legend hidden away in the menu, but whatever.
  4. FYI, still having the problem with the .58 beta getting stuck defragging files on a FAT32 drive. What characteristics cause some files to work and others not to are beyond my technical knowledge. It does appear to move a file to a different space on the drive, then move it again, and the process repeats over and over. I hope that is somehow reflected inthe log I posted. Also the files it gets stuck on are usually large 60+mb files.
  5. Yes Piriform, add my name to the list of people who'd like to see a directory or drive menu tree that we could use to check off/flag individual directories for defragmentation. Phases, my workaround is to sort the analyzed files by directory then go down the list checking off the files.
  6. Wow, crickets are really chirping on these forums. No idea what could be causing the problem?
  7. Ok, here's the log. I was attempting to defrag a single 128MB file named "26963". The HD currently has 42.6GB of free space. In my best non-techie explanation, it was represented by ~20 blocks of yellow that it was reading. When writing (green blocks) it was only about 3-4 blocks being written most times. Sometimes it'd go up to 7 blocks. Usually after those were written, they would then become yellow blocks and they were moved somewhere else on the drive. This process repeated over and over until I aborted after about 25 min. 8. Hi all, Ran across this program by accident and I love it. I have the 1.1.44 beta installed on my desktop and it works wonderfully. Because of this I also installed it on a laptop with a FAT32 file system and about 40GB free on a 70GB HD. It does not work at all, frankly. It analyzes the drive fine, but watching the defrag process it seems to move one block to an area of the drive, then the same block to another, and so on. I have a couple of 1GB files, a few ~100MB files, and a number of smaller <1MB files I was trying to defrag. After running it for hours a whopping zero files were defragged. I'll be happy to give you any requested info if it'll help troubleshoot the problem. Ideas/Suggestions: Allow the ability to defrag directories Put the drive legend somewhere visible - I suggest listing the legend underneath the empty space below the Analyze/Defrag/Stop buttons. Allow the ability to consolidate free space even if the entire HD wasn't defragged List the file currently being defragged, perhaps in the blank space to the right of the Status column
