  1. On Windows 98se I get working CCleaner v2.00.479 easily Recommended! On WinNT SP1 does not work even CCleaner v1.30... I will report back after upgrade on SP3
  2. After givin it the wininet.dll it complain, that the function MD5Final is not found in the advapi32.dll ... so I try update this library as well... Looks like Nergal is about right with the version 1 I will still try make v2 working... I believe that there is a chance. Next step will be SP3, wPrime need SP3 ... but that is a separate install, because this will be IMHO slower that SP1 for SuperPi/PiFast. Sometimes the difference are only fraction of seconds - P90, SuperPi 1M second place 14:56.479, third place 14:56.960...! http://hwbot.org/submission/964477_ http://hwbot.org/submission/862438_ ... That means I would *KILL* for working Autoruns from Sysinternals on WinNT SP1. Oldest version 8.31 from the v8 family crash and there is nothing between v5.01 (witch is mostly useless) and v8.31 witch crash on WinNT 4.0 SP1 See? https://web.archive.org/web/20050615000000*/http://www.sysinternals.com/Files/Autoruns.zip Nothing in 2005 till 8.31 from 11.1.2005 ... But all is not lost! I stumbled upon this: http://www.filewatcher.com/_/?q=autoruns And there are FTP links to *MANY* versions of Autoruns.zip and after short search, I managed to find jewels like versions: Autoruns 8.13 Autoruns 8.11 Autoruns 6.1 Sure, more versions around the v7 are missing... but that should do it! PS: Hoooray! Version 6.1 of the Autoruns works! http://www.mediafire.com/?e572oi1yxnayup5 It does complain a bit about unsupported calls, but it works, not crash So I optimized my WinNT and get 2nd place in SuperPi for P90: http://hwbot.org/submission/2975859_ The optimizing shave about 6 sec of the run, witch was enought to jump from 6th place to 2th place ...of course, it should be better to get version a bit higher (v8.0? v7.0? ...later v6...?), but that is just a dream I have to update the hardware rather (faster HDD that 13G old slow Seagate) to get better scores now Sadly, CCleaner v2 does not work.Updating the advapi32.dll to higher version cause WinNT 4.0 SP1 fail to start, so I put the old one back and WinNT boot back again... So I have to take a look on older version of CCleaner. Maybe on SP3 it get better?
  3. On WinNT 4.0 SP1 it seems to be a problem. Ttrying v2.06.567 it say that Default UI language function not found, so I tried v2.00.475 Beta and it "only" wants a wininet.dll, so maybe there is a chance to get it working...
  4. Thanks! That is what I want to hear. And yes! Older versions, yay! Good. Now we see, if any of them will actually work on WinNT 4.0 SP1 machine. I will report back, maybe it will help someone... Thank you very much for the old versions link, mate!
  5. Guys, I wonder if any of the old versions of CCleaner are capable of running on Windows NT 4.0 with only SP1 installed. Anyone knows...? And where I can find all the old versions of CCleaner, starting from v1 ... thru v2.... Etc. You get the idea, right?
  6. hello guys. i do wonder, what is the last version of piriform defraggler that support/works on windows 2000 sp4. i was tried to look in faq and in the version history, yet not find anything. and in the specs the oldest supported windows are windows xp, so i better look and ask there, what is the last one that will work on my win2k thx for information.
  7. Definitively another vote on clearing these intrusive *.sol "supercookies" ... Of course manual clean is possible, but CCleaner should clean them w/o user intervention
  8. hazelnut - well, they aren"t very bright to start with. As soon as I can't delete something, I try rename it and then reboot and then I usually delete everything. However the registry keys stay. (cursed Macromedia/Adobe) Well, I tried one suggestion and tried this: FlashUtil9 -uninstallUnlock And yea! Much better, only two errors now: So far, so good. However using the Flash 10 utility by the same way ( -uninstallUnlock ) I get this error message: Something about impossibility of finding a "GetSystemWow64DirectoryA" is not possible in the kernel32.dll ... hmmm. So, I tried the other options of the FlashUtil9: -unregisterBroker -uninstallDelete -uninstallControlPath -uninstallBrokerPath -uninstallSafeVersions ...but with bad result, as the number of errors only increased by one Next try - I try unlocking these registry keys using the regedt32 Let's hope for the best (yes, regedt32 allows unlocing registry keys even on Windows 2000, so...) Alan_B - when regedt32 fail, then I try the Registry Registrar Manager, thanks for the tip. I can't believe even on W2k I can stumble upon such "permission problems", oh, well... If that happen on Vista, well... I just format it. But on W2k...
  9. Hello, friends. On friend machine I made the mistake of installing the Adobe Macromedia Flash, instead of just depacking the installer and copy over the relevant files in Firefox plugins. As result, there are several non-deletable (regeditor refuse to delete them, CCleaner did not delete them as well) registry entries: Both from Flash 9b and 10b versions as you can see in the image. Since regedit refuse the delete the keys AND CCleaner also refuse to delete them, I tried even the Registry Booster, yet this one did not even list them as error. If that is significant, I don't know. I just want them to "go away" and don't know how. Thinking about Windows PE boot, but not sure if that is safe and if that will allow well me to manipulate with registry... Is not there any other way? There is NOTHING from the flash files in Windows directory at all. All are removed/deleted. I stick with the flashplayer.xpt NPSWF32.dll NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe files extracted from the install and put in Firefox / Plugins, so I will not ever install that crap again. Never did on my machine and no problemo. But in case someone do, is there a known way to fix this? Using the Adobe utility to clean up is NOT the way to do... Also installing new version did not seems to fix a thing.
  10. At first I made the mistake using Partition Magic v8.00 to setup a drive (2G FAT32 for OS, 184G NTFS for data). PM v8.00 is faulty and screw up the drive, mainly the NTFS partition. Usually the results are not as dramatic as I experience (mostly only windows is slow in powering off), however on VIA chipset, as this old machine use, it is hell. New files are corrupted and gone missing after reboot, etc. Bad. (results of using PM 8.00 on VIA chipsets from Symatec page are not exaggerated at all) In PM v8.02 or v8.05 it should be fixed, however even the v8.02 is not going to allow me to fix ANY error. It finding twice Error 1611 bad system file name ...and about hundred times... Error 1527 bad update sequence number ...and button FIX is still grayed out. So I tried a workaround - used the recommended Acronis Partition Expert v8 and I downsized the D drive a bit and then get it back to former status and quess what - most of the errors and problems are gone now! No more bit table troubles with MFT, but the new file corruption and files gone missing behaviour sadly continue... So the first thing one do is to run chkdsk, right? So I run it with parameters /x /f and it always says "Fixing error in index $I30 file 5. Checking of index finished." - that it should be translated to english... However when I run it imediatelly again, it report the very same thing! So the error is NOT fixed. So I get the idea that I just find the file no. 5 using MFT table and kill it. Using DiskEdit utility (from Win2k SP4 CD by M$ itself, grab it there: http://rapidshare.com/files/189278835/DiskEdit.zip ) I opened the NTFS D drive and - sadly instead of the path and file I saw only couple of empty boxes... I can check other files fine, so, what now? It is a system file or hidden something then...? I tried threat that as it is a deleted file fragment or something like that. I tried the Recuva utility from Sysinternals, because it can safely erase the deleted files, based on the MFT infos... If you did not know, well, then MFT store and keep information about every files you ever had on your HDD, so... (MFT on my drive have 57MB currently) Recuva found like 16k of deleted files, so I check them all and say - delete them right away! But things went wrong, as some of the files are "resident" in the MFT table, so, they are not deleted. Also Recuva cannot delete the infos MFT keep about files long time gone from HDD. So I tried the recovering utility Restoration v3.2.13, because it know not only erase files, but also erase the infos about them in MFT! Then in Recuva you see only 16k of empty lost file infos, hehe. But that did not help me either. Then I tried Winhex v15.1, witch offer fantastic things, and among others - erasing the unnecessary MFT infos. However it again only erase the missing files infos, not remove them from MFT - it probably did not know how to rebuild the MFT then... So, no improve in the chkdsk error and HDD behaviour done... Hence - anyone have any ideas how to fix this index problem? Chkdsk /x /d /r D: run way too long and at the end, no change at all. Also I tried chkdsk from the Windows repair console, however no difference. It says that he find something, but then again - it did not fix it. And only report that find and fixed errors the first time I run it. Each next run it make there pauses (hence 3 errors, I presume) but not report them anymore! Much less to fix them... So when I get back in win, it way agaion like that: Program CHKDSK ověřuje soubory (f?ze 1 z 3)... Ověřen? souboru dokončeno. Program CHKDSK ověřuje rejstř?ky (f?ze 2 z 3)... Prob?h? oprava chyby v rejstř?ku $I30 souboru 5. Ověřen? rejstř?ku dokončeno. Program CHKDSK ověřuje popisovače zabezpečen? (f?ze 3 z 3)... Ověřen? popisovače zabezpečen? bylo dokončeno. 193253884 kB m?sta na disku celkem. 190638064 kB v 37513 souborech u?ivatele. 14644 kB v 1583 rejstř?c?ch. 0 kB v chybn?ch sektorech. 78740 kB pou??v? syst?m. 16384 kB zab?r? soubor s protokolem. 2522436 kB na disku je voln?ch. 4096 bajtů v ka?d? alokačn? jednotce 48313471 alokačn?ch jednotek na disku celkem. 630609 voln?ch alokačn?ch jednotek So, anyone get any idea about chkdsk replacement that works? Or thanks to PM, I have to backup my entire drive on DVDs and format it and then copy all the data back or what?! It is VERY annoying to lose data in new files and I of course run diagnostic tests on the drive and then SpinRite v6 and the drive is perfectly okay. A not so old 200G Seagate PATA one PM reporting WAY less errors after the trick I made with Acronis Partition Expert, but still... they are there. Help?
  11. Directory Opus? I can't live w/o in on Amiga On the PC side, I rather use Total Commander, tough. Best paid sofware? Except Total Commander - none. Best software? Then we go to Miranda, FireFox, eMule, VirtualDub with plugins and BSplayer (only old versions, tough)
