  1. Errm, Dennis maybe you need to get your eyes tested, walterius stated that Firefox and CCleaner had similar icons, not Opera and CCleaner, lol.
  2. I know Vista is memory hungry, but with the price of RAM so cheap these days that shouldn't be an issue. Once Aero and UAC are turned off you could quite easily feel that you are using an XP system, but one that looks a little bit nicer. Too much hype about how bad Vista was has stuck in peoples minds. Edit: Oh and Keithuk, just noticed that you have not upgraded to SP3, that is bad computing in itself. You are leaving yourself open to all sorts of problems.
  3. I've got absolutely no problem with Vista, and don't know why other people are against it so much. Four of the computers in my house are running it, and all of them run fine and do what they are supposed to do.
  4. XP on my desktop and Vista on both my laptops. Occasionally I play with Linux Vixta on my desktop too.
  5. But then it is an advantage to Microsoft.
  6. I only ever use the standalone, do my checking and updating and then delete it until I am next ready to do it.
  7. Here you go, here's how to do it. Link Or maybe not. Seriously though, this might be helpful. Link. Edit: I've mended many chargers, but have not been brave enough to attempt the charging socket yet.

    Vista

You'll find it is not too dissimilar to XP once you get used to it Craig. Oh and go into msconfig, there is a tab (might be called boot, I can't remember (I have just turned my Vista laptop off and don't want to turn it on again)), but anyway you will find an option to allow more cores to be used when the computer starts up, rather than the default 1 core. It will speed up the starting of the computer for sure. I have faith in you to find it without more specific instructions from me, lol.
  9. I visited that site a lot when I was thinking of changing ISP. See also this page: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/sections/radsl.html#235 It describes how to remove the now redundant third wire in telecom wiring.

    Vixta on dvd?

I downloaded and played with Vixta today, and I must say I liked it. So much more sexier than Ubuntu. It worked flawlessly, especially considering that it was running from a live cd and was not installed. My wireless keyboard and mouse worked straight away, the only thing that failed me was my wireless internet, but that might of been user error, I'll try again sometime. I might be picking up another couple of computers soon, if so and they are better than this one then I will install Vixta on this one.
  11. Haha. I wish I could remember what settings they had me change in my router because you could of tried that, but I have a terrible memory.
  12. All the versions can be found here: http://filehippo.com/download_defraggler/
  13. VM shouldn't of told you to phone BT to report a fault, because you could of got charged if no fault was found, it was VM's responsibility to report the fault. Oh well, I'm not being much help am I, lol.
  14. Oh wow, yet with me they kept trying to tell me it was the routers at fault, but I wouldn't have it because it seemed impossible that 3 of them could be faulty. I think it was possibly an incompatibility problem with Belkin routers and Virgin now, although I don't know how. Besides I have set up loads of Belkin routers for people that are Virgin customers and they haven't had problems. What make is your router? Maybe it would be worth buying another router from somewhere like Argos, at least then if it cures it then all will be good, but if it don't cure it you can take advantage of Argos's 16 day money back guarantee.
  15. Well kaybee, since you last posted about your troubles with Virgin, and I tried helping you, I suffered really bad problems regarding losing my connection, some days I would be lucky if I had the internet for an hour, other days I might be lucky and have it for 5 or 6 hours. I was constantly on the phone to Virgin trying to get it sorted, I tried 3 different Belkin routers (2 were old, one was brand new), changed all my filters, went through the same routine with the support staff over and over again, they had me running all over the house trying the router in different phone sockets, but nothing ever worked. In the end I gave up and started reading up on other ISP's (when I was lucky enough to get connected), I couldn't decide who I wanted to go with. Unbeknown to me they were still trying at their end to sort things out though, possibly even looking at their log of my internet activity, because they did something I never expected. They called me on my mobile whilst I was at work one day and asked if they could send me a new router to see if that would cure things. Of course I said yes, next day a Netgear router turned up, the problem remained a little bit so I called them up, they had me change a few settings in the router and for the most part everything is fine these days. They were not obliged to send me a router, because that was never part of the contract in the first place, years ago when I upgraded to broadband with them they supplied me with a modem, it was down to me to change to a router when I decided to get all the computers in the house connected. Anyway, on the odd occasion that I do lose the connection now, I just go into the router configuration page, restart the router and everything is fine. I know this is not answering your question about O2, but just thought I would share my experience, maybe you should push for a new router from them.
  16. Uninstall Mcafee using add/remove, then go here, scroll down to step 2, download the Mcafee removal tool and proceed as per instructions on that site.

    I'm Back.

Welcome back speytone, I remember your name from before. hazelnut, I don't think he was asking about avatars, I think he was saying that he see's a few familiar avatars here as opposed to faces.
  18. I like the new one, and will be using it.
  19. Thanks hazelnut, that looks like what I am after.
  20. Really? I just tried the link again and it works for me.
  21. I'll look into that, thanks. I was just trying to use what was available at the moment, it seems silly having a router sitting on the shelf gathering dust if it could be put to good use.
