    Undo Cleaning ?

Hello ahh, and welcome to the forum. If you used normal file deletion you could try Recuva: http://www.recuva.com/ But you must work fast so the files aren't overwritten. The following applies to CCleaner. In Cleaner>Applications>uncheck adobe audition so it won't be cleaned. Analyze before cleaning, to make sure you don't have to exclude any other part of adobe audition. Heres a link to CCleaners guide: http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ Let us know if you need more help. Jamin4u
  2. Hello jawjagirl, and welcome to the forum. It's a good idea not to have any applications open, but I've never been instructed to close any programs by CCleaner. I use Internet Explorer which may be why I don't have pop ups. I make sure that my browser is closed to clean the cache. I don't recommend disabling your antivirus, or firewall software. Where did you download CCleaner from? Heres the download link I use: http://www.CCleaner.com/download/builds I use the slim build (No Toolbar). Heres a link to CCleaners guide: http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ Let us know if you need more help. P.S. boo boos are always welcome. Jamin4u
  3. I found this on YouTube that may also help. http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/...amp;topic=10560 Heres a link to CCleaners guide. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/
  4. Hello zoe and welcome to the forum, If you haven't already, try the following. Download and use the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller to uninstall previous version. http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewConten...rnalId=tn_14157 Download Flash Player from here. (Note: uncheck free google toolbar if you don't want it) http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/do...=ShockwaveFlash Test installation here. (This will test Shockwave and Flash Player) http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ Use the latest version of Java, and make sure it is enabled. http://www.java.com/en/ I manually uninstall all older versions of Java. Do you have any new security software or changes that could block YouTube, like a firewall?
  5. 1) What startup items did you delete? 2) What method did you use to delete them? Registry>Fix selected issues or Tools>Startup>delete
  6. Hello JeffL, and welcome to the forum. Missing Typelib Reference is new, and I'm sure a description will be available soon. You can find Installer at the link below under registry (CCleaner Guide). http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ I found a topic that covered Uninstaller Reference Issue. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=16141 I hope this helps, Jamin4u
  7. My monthly MS updates are days behind if I let auto updates handle it! It must have something to do with the number of computers that MS updates. Although, I've seen Majorgeeks list program version updates before they are posted on the softwares website. They must have some source!
  8. I made this suggestion before, and agree with the part about the warning being needed. I don't need the space and plan on keeping mine. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...amp;#entry98045
  9. Hi holachristina, did you try to access system restore from safe mode. This may help you get to a previous month to select an earlier date. The system restore utility can be accessed in safe mode and used to restore any previous restore point. Simply restart XP in safe mode and go to 'start\all programs \ accessories \ system tools \ system restore' then follow the instructions to restore your system to the point of your choice. Note that you cannot create restore points in safe mode, only load them. When you get your computer up and running, I recommend Erunt to backup your registry. http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/
  10. Hi onlyone, and welcome to the forum. Try to empty the Recycle Bin from within the Recycle Bin. Let us know if this helps. Heres a link to the CCleaner Guide. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/

    Registry backup

I agree that 30 days is to many backups. 45.MB per backup can sure eat up your hard drive. Besides, I would most likely use todays backup anyway. I chose 7 days because I wasn't sure if that was 30 days or 30 dates. I found out if I start my computer once a week, my oldest backup will be seven weeks old. Thank you for reminding me to change mine to a lower number like yours.
  12. If you aren't having a problems, just sit tight and you should be fine. You might think about leaving Registry Cleaning alone until you become more familiar with CCleaner. (Just a thought) It took me quite a while to hit that fix issues button, because I really can't live without my PC. I've been using CCleaner since early 2005, and I've never had to restore a backup. (I hope this helps!) I trust MrG and his team of hard working people. I think you'll see why as you continue to use CCleaner. Jamin4u
  13. I didn't think I could have auto backup with UAC turned on. I thought this changed when you stated this: Erunt is definitely one of those programs that requires elevated (administrative) access. I don't want to turn off UAC, so I will backup the registry like I have been. Maybe a future MS update in a galaxy far far away, we will have the ability to exclude programs from UAC.
  14. Hey davey, I've had ERUNT and NTREGOPT on my Vista system since January. I remember having to always approve auto backup at startup. I believe it was UAC and not my Host Intrusion Prevention System. So I just manually backup the registry when I install something, or feel the need. (Run as administrator) I've run NTREGOPT maybe twice with 10% reduction each time. (Run as administrator) This discussion has sparked my interest in trying auto backup again. Since "yes" I have SP1 installed and have had many updates to my Firewall with HIPS. I haven't had any problems with the way I'm doing it, but it sure would be nice to "set it and forget it". I will update you when I'm done and have tested it out. Thanks as always, Jamin4u
  15. Hey davey, I ran NTREGOPT without UAC turned off. I right clicked and ran as administrator. The following is from Lars Hederer: Question: Do ERUNT and NTREGOPT run on Windows Vista? Answer: Yes. To make sure the programs are executed with proper administrative privileges, you should however turn off User Account Control in Vista?s system settings. It seemed to run as it does on my XP system. Do you think I did any harm? Thanks for the heads up. P.S. I won't be doing that again. Jamin4u
  16. Hi hazelnut, I've had this one hidden since April. I run CCleaner all the time. Could this be the answer? One other thought: did someone add a Custom File or Folder?
  17. This is why I hang out here at the Piriform Forums. I learn something new everyday. I had never heard of the User Profile Hive before. I have suggested using the process of elimination before to find a culprit. What I mean is to uncheck all but one section at a time. Run CCleaner, then enable the next section until you narrow it down to the one that is causing you the problem. It would have worked in this case had I thought of it. But it looks as if davey got it with one shot. Great Job, Jamin4u
  18. DennisD, The link you provided states: System Requirements Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP. Guest_Jim_* is using 32-bit Vista Ultimate. I will keep this link for my XP system. Thanks, Jamin4u
  19. If you haven't already, I would look at the following category's in the Event Viewer. 1) Administrative Events 2) Application log 3) System log Look for warnings and errors, before, during, and after shutdown. Double click on events or logs for more info. If you can't identify a cause, I would leave the proper amount of time between running CCleaner and shutdown to avoid the freeze. I have 32-bit Vista Home Premium and can't duplicate the results. Maybe someone with more experience can help you further. Good Luck, Jamin4u
  20. Have a look in the Event Viewer to see if an application is hanging or something of that nature. Jamin4u

    What is

Hello and welcome to the forum, I have read that DOD 5220.22-M (3 Passes) will do the job. Using it will slow down the process, the more overwrite passes the longer it will take. I have used it in the past, but opted for a file shredder when I feel the need for a secure delete. Although, some will say the only way to make sure your files are gone is to take a hammer to your hard drive. Jamin4u
  22. If I had tons of cookies that would take hours to go through, I would just delete them all. Then start over by logging in and customizing my favorite sites. Open CCleaner to Options>Cookies>moving cookies to the right "Cookies to Keep". Check the boxes to clean those cookies. Just a thought, as I don't know how many favorite sites you have in your cookie jar. Take care, Jamin4u
  23. Thanks for the help with answering this question DennisD. It has been so long since I installed CCleaner that I don't remember what boxes are checked by default. Everyones needs are different when it comes to cleaning up their computer and what settings are right for them. Very True! Congratulations on becoming a Moderator. Jamin4u
  24. I may be one of the few that likes to manually update program versions. This way I can read what the updates are, and decide if I want the update. I have skipped updates because they really didn't pertain to me. It can also be annoying if you need to restart your computer in the middle of something. I must agree that this would be helpful for those of you that like auto updating. If added I would like to see a check box to disable auto updates. Jamin4u
  25. Hi all, I think rawr23 is talking about spy programs that keep tabs on people without their knowledge. Like maybe your kids or spouse. These programs install in a stealth mode. I would follow daveys advise for removal, by checking with the software manufacturers website. Get back with us for help, or to let us know how you did. Jamin4u
