I chose a slightly different path and created a simple batch file (with desktop icon) that does it all for me in a single click... where, from my PCs root directory, ccl.bat = copy "C:\Program Files\CCleaner_INI_file\ccleaner.ini" "C:\Program Files\CCleaner" Perhaps a similar batch file would save you the inconvenience. Like you, prior to my initial post of Feb 28 2009 at 05:51 PM, I only used FF or Opera and never had problems. Never used a DLM since the, SLIM version, files have always been under 1MB. Interestingly, I have no problems at Major Geeks - therefore, the only conclusion is a problem with the server(s) associated with http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim as accessed from 56 PCs in the Saint Paul and Minneapolis metropolitan area of Minnesota. I am reposting my initial problem again because I thought that it was resolved by using Internet Explorer. IE may have worked ONCE before, but this morning it has the EXACT SAME PROBLEM that I discribed with FF3 and Opera. What is wrong with the CCleaner website and the Slim version, Piriform? Is it that Piriform does not truthfully want us using the slim version? Is the truth simply that Piriform wants everyone to use the fat-overhead, Yahoo-toolbar, crap marketing, full version? What is it? Please be honest and truthful because this is really starting to piss me off. As a consultant, I have recommended Piriform products to over a thousand clients. Given this OBVIOUS and REPEATING problem, I am less than 24 hours away from instructing my clients to REMOVE all Piriform products because they are no longer reliable - at least not in the consistent manner that has been the norm the last couple of years, less the last months with the Slim download problem - which has been a real pain in the ass. Good point, Keithuk. Fortunately, for the past 2 years I have saved my .ini file in a separate directory. Once the new version of CCleaner is installed, I copy my backup .ini to the newly created CCleaner directory. Martin

The problem appears to be my preferred browser choices - Firefox 3.0.6 and Opera 9.63 I hate IE6 with a passion and refuse to upgrade to IE7 or try the IE8 Beta. IE (in any form, in my experience) is excessively slow loading, poor security, miserably fails the ACID TESTS, etc. However, I tried my link as well as your link, DennisD, and both worked with IE6 version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_qfe.080814-1242. Immediately after, I tried both Firefox 3.0.6 and Opera 9.63 and both failed AGAIN. Trying IE6 came to mind when I remembered another time when I discovered or was informed that a website had been optimized for Internet Explorer, because the web pages failed to load with Firefox or Opera. Perhaps that is what has happened at http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx or http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds. Hi all, Once a new build of CCleaner is released and posted, I typically like to remove my existing CCleaner and install the new build. I prefer the slim version, currently CCleaner v2.17.853 - Slim In the last 36 hours (or so), I have tried to download this build 5 or 6 times and, while it starts, it never completes. When this has happened in the passed, with other CCleaner - Slim builds, after 2 or 3 failed attempts, I just wait a week or so and the problem is resolved. This time, I am not as patient and I am 100% confident that my ISP connection is okay, as well as my O/S, browser(s) and download manager. I now believe that this is a re-occurring theme - within the first day or two after new build is released where my CCleaner v2.XX.XXX - Slim download begins, but then fails to complete. www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx What is the issue with downloading CCleaner - Slim soon after it is added to the website noted above? I am in complete agreement with your perspective on Diskeeper regarding its ability to consolidate free space, anonymous_user. Diskeeper fails miserably with respect to free space, leaving far too much space between defragmented files. As a result, future files stored are often initially fragmented. I find this issue a HUGE problem when recording over-the-air HDTV broadcasts, where files often exceed 5 GB. Thanks for your post. Regards, Martin

Anyone have any perspective (or reason) why Diskeeper is (apparently) LIGHTENING FAST compared to every other defragmeter, including Defraggler? In addition to Defraggler, I use a FREE version of Diskeeper, specfically Diskeeper Lite 9 version 9.0.528.0 from 2005. Therfore, I would appreciate those who refrain from making moot or sarcastic comments regarding the issue of "FREE" software versus all other defragmenting software. I should also mention that when I defrag, the following batch file commands are executed to disable antivirus, firewall and other related software... sc stop AntiVirService sc config AntiVirService start= disabled sc stop AntiVirScheduler sc config AntiVirScheduler start= disabled sc stop BITS sc config BITS start= disabled sc stop wuauserv sc config wuauserv start= disabled sc stop SharedAccess sc config SharedAccess start= disabled sc stop wscsvc sc config wscsvc start= disabled ...as a result, slower defragmenters, like Defraggler, are NOT handicapped by issues of antivirus, firewall or related software. Other than its ability to defrag a single file (versus the whole drive), performance-wise, thus far, I find only one issue why I prefer Defraggler over Diskeeper Lite 9. Thanks, Martin

Hey, Andavari! Thanks again for replying to one of my posts. Your support is sincerely appreciated. Yeah, I should have identified what I meant by the %PC_ID% notation. Glad you figured it out. No other cleaner(s). But after I posted, I decided to uninstall CCleaner, and then reinstall it. I had been saving my .ini file in a separate directory and copying it back into the CCleaner directory each time I updated. This time I did not, and instead I re-entered the Registry and Google exclusions. The new install and "fresh" .ini file (with freshly entered exclusions) seems to have resolved the problem. Hello again all! This morning I decided to give Google's Web Accelerator software a spin with my dial-up service. I am not that familiar with other acceleration software, but Google writes four (4) files to the HDD in C:\Documents and Settings\%PC_ID%\Local Settings\Temp. The files are... - GoogleWebAccWarden.exe.log - GoogleWebAcceleratorCache - GoogleWebAccelerator.pac - googlewebaccclient.exe.log After running CCleaner, I discovered that, given my existing settings, the above files were deleted. This, of course, virtually eliminates the beneifs associated with Google's Web Accelerator. I thought that adding the file locations/names to my EXCLUDE list would prevent CCleaner from deleting them. I was wrong. I believe the EXCLUDE list is strictly for the Registry Cleaner. Is this correct??? I would prefer not clearing (or unchecking) the "Temporary Files" box found under CCleaner/Applications/System. Presently, my .ini file reads... Hi All! My first post regarding a recurring problem with CCleaner. I've been a CCleaner (slim version) fan for well over a year and enthusiastically recommend (almost insisting) it to friends. A few months ago, I added a TV tuner card to my PC, an Intel 2.8 GHz Pentium D with 1 GB RAM, etc. The tuner card uses audio and video codecs, and CCleaner's Registry scan likes to remove "Unused File Extensions" but there are a few that are IN USE and that's why I am posting here today. I am updated to version 2.01.507 (slim version), and, in addition to several other extensions, Registry scan consistently wants to delete .ax, .pf and .s3 file extensions. 1) .ax - a used file extension If this file extension is deleted (without creating a .reg backup), the AC3Filter (audio codec) no longer runs and the software must be removed and reinstalled. Sadly, after reinstalling, CCleaner/Registry scan wants to delete the .ax file extension once again. The .ax file extension must be registered by the installing AC3Filter software, else it would not be available to the TV tuner software programs. 2) .pf - a used file extension Here, I am confused why CCleaner/Registry continues to add the prefetch extension, .pf, to the Unused File Extension list when the Windows/Prefetch directory is full and, among other programs that employ .pf extensions, Firefox's prefetch option is fully enabled. 3) .s3 - a used file extension The .s3 extension is intrinsic to my ATI graphics card and deleting it would compromise the s3 controller drivers. When I allow CCleaner/Registry to delete them (again, without creating a .reg backup), the ATI drivers and control center software would have to be removed and reinstalled. Fortunately, CCleaner/Registry scan allows the user to uncheck "supposed" Unused File Extensions and I have been unchecking .ax, .pf and .s3 whenever I run CCleaner/Registry scan. Not related to .ax, .pf or .s3, the remaining file extensions ) are deleted without any complications or adverse effects to their respective software programs - as far as I know. I am unaware of a CCleaner/Registry option to EXCLUDE "user specified" extensions, and would like to continue using the cleaning program. However, having to constantly uncheck "supposed" Unused File Extensions, when I know they are "in use" or intrinsic to necessary drivers and controllers, is becoming an annoying issue and is beginning to destroy my confidence in CCleaner's ability to work without harming or creating problems with software running on my PC. Interestingly, this "Unused File Extension" issue did not appear to be a problem with previous versions of CCleaner, two or three releases ago. Unfortunately, I did not keep a copy of the downloaded (slim) program and therefore cannot test this statement. Then again, given the faithful CCleaner service that I have enjoyed and come to rely upon, as I mentioned previously, the Registry issue is destroying my confidence in CCleaner. Prior to posting, I did conduct a search for "Unused File Extensions" and read most of the threads. After consistently reading that "Unused File Extensions" were SAFE to remove, specifically suggested more than twice by the forum moderator(s), I had to post my question because there are a few (on my system) that are NOT safe to remove.
