  1. ok I am going to start out with.. I like a program called "Diskeeper" it is very nice. The best part is that it allows you to schedule when you want to defrag your drive. second best part is it runs in the back ground and waits for time periods when the drive isn't being used much to defrag. it is a very robust program that integrates into windows defrag so that it will go to diskkeeper when you select defrag. anyway, I want to say that defraggler couldn't become like diskeeper because first... we don't want it integrating into windows... then it couldn't become portable... second... to allow this program to portable it could use a scheduling agent built in, but it wouldn't be useful for portablility because do you want it defragging someone else's computer when you plug it into there computer with your usb drive? is that even a good idea? no... but to make programming easier, you could integrate with windows task scheduler easliy. I used to hate windows task scheduler, because I was always worried about loosing that task or not being able to take a task I like to another computer, but you can copy tasks from task scheduler to anywhere then drag them back into task scheduler on any computer. so you could keep a back up of the task to apply to any computer. which is what makes integration into task scheduler so easy. I will be honest.. I want defraggler to be more like diskkeeper is. I have it installed on all my computer and am very happy with it. only thing that would get me to change is a FREE program like this that had many of the advanced features of diskkeeper like schedules and low priority defragging... these days I hate installing programs .. the less I have to install into windows and the more I can run portable the better. this talk about making the drive more efficent by putting files at the outside or inside of the drive is crapola Windows defragmentor does that already... it is supposed to make more used files faster and less used file slower... I know that a defragmentor program in principal just takes a file that is physically broken into many parts and is all across the drive and puts it in one contiguous block to make it run faster and easier to find what it needs. for 80% of people that should be enough... what the heck are you doing that you need it to run more effiecent than that? downloading illegal files 24/7 and filling up your drive like that? or are you at work and constantly using programs to run models or super heavy calculations? most machines will see a HUGE performance gain with a regular defrag schedule of once a week or even once a month. unless you are gaming, downloading/uploading 100 files at once,a developer, or using your computer in a heavy corp environment you don't need files put on place on the drive that will get the fastest seek time, because you probably won't notice the millisecond performance increase. most people who use there machine for gaming, or developing should be reloading their windows machine often anyway, because windows sucks at efficency. that is why in a corp environment it is standard to replace machines every 2-4 years... it saves on costly repairs that can happen with heavily used computers over time and it also ensures your aren't falling behind on technology that could make your computer faster and keep yourself competitive. that is why leasing is better in a corp environment because usually during that lease period the computer is under warranty the whole time so repairs are covered and total cost of ownership on a PC actually goes up over time because of repairs and upgrades. it is actually cheaper to keep it for 3 years, return the machine and get a new one that again is covered under warranty. wowie I can blah blah blah can't I.. sorry... I like defraggler and have tried it several times but it needs several things to make it better... development and testing to get the kinks out is most important. I am not saying it doesn't work great for me cause it does. testing needs to be done more and that is why it is beta. I think defraggler will become a great program that I will use as much or more than CCleaner and I look forward to another great application I can convert to portable.
  2. first of all... dennisd, I try and install as little as possible on my computer(besides my mistake with the recent printer). I don't like programs that I don't know... that being said I don't mind trying something new once in awhile, that is how I found CCleaner. now adays... I think the future of computing is portable apps. I don't mean online apps that seems to be the focus of the computer world, but portable. Like I can put them on my thumb drive and run them on any computer... I would even go as far as saying portable oses also... get a computer with the the new memory(solid state) hardrives that are showing up in dells and so on... and no other hdd installed. honestly, I don't go around with a thumb drive, I just put all my portable programs on the hdd, but when I go to reload my machine it takes me 75% less time to reload because I do a back up of my portable apps, reload windows and then place the portable apps back and I am done. anyway, I do use several items at work on a thumb drive because sometimes it is easier to just plug it in and do what I need then move to the next problem. why couldn't my favorite program (CCleaner) improve itself to make it more valuable to me instead of me having to go out and get even more programs to install and maintain... I am looking to lessen my load not increase it. to davey, I have actually been around these forums for awhile. I mostly use them to keep up on the program. Usually someone mentions something that I want to suggest so I don't include my input because it is already covered. So, yes I haven't posted allot. I just have always thought this particular thing was very irritating and is something that is desperately needed. I work in IT as deskside support and am having to deal with this problem very frequently. The good thing is, in a corp environment, almost all of the core programs I install and uninstall I am very aware of what it creates in the add remove programs area. as most should realize, users tend to install their own programs that cause problems with the core programs. I have to then investigate and find out what that weirdly name program is to see if it needs to go. I am just saying this feature I am suggesting to be added... would make things in my personal and work much much less complicated.
  3. Let me start out by saying this feature i am talking about is one of my favorite things in CCleaner. I like all parts, but this part is much much faster. Sometimes on an old computer that hasn't been defragmented in a long time it takes 5 minutes or more to load m$'s add remove programs. not CCleaner.. instant loading...anyway let me get to why I started this topic One of them many things I hate about m$'s add remove programs is that there is very little if any description of what the programs are that are listed.Just a name that means almost nothing to most people. They don't know that that "AiO_Scan_CDA" is for or does. Sure you could assume it does something with the scanning features of a printer... but what really happens if I remove it. I know that can't really couldn't be included, but I knwo that most files have a manufacture and author along with copywrites associated with them. Would it be possible to make CCleaner include that in the uninstall list? maybe right click the item in the list and select properties and it would show you a very brief discription, dependencies, and maybe where it is installed. I write about this because, I just installed a printer, actually a mfd that includes a scanner. I was stupid and told it to do the complete install. now my uninstall listing is littered with many many(over 20) things that I know are related to the printer, but which do I uninstall now? I dont' know what it going to messup... and worse, when I remove what I think is the main program it doesn't remove all of them. sure, this feature I asked for probably won't help me with this, but it would be something grealy appreciated by many... what do you think?
  4. wouldn't a file you deleted be in the recycle bin listing? because windows moves to recycle then deletes. call me stupid if you wish
  5. I something sort of like this happen to me with the 2.495 version last night. It opened the download page in IE and also my default browser... and it took awhile for the page to fully load. I have winxp on a dell 4000 p3 700Mhz 768mb 60gb
  6. I would like to see many more command line options like one to autostart registry cleaning or one command line options are great for automation and would be a welcome option for the portable version... command line options in my opinion are a necessity in any utility
  7. I am not sure I would be down with a all in one app... I am sure as a pc tech I would probably use all 3,but combining leaves open the oportunity to make the file rather large. and bloated... I would rather have 3 seperate stream line programs than one big bloated one.
  8. i understand why the toolbar is there.. it is probably a source of revenue and helps keep this tool free... but lets switch to Google toolbar instead.
