    Registry backup

Thanks. #1- I was referring to creating Restore Point with MS. I wondered if I could configure the MS Restore Point to be created automatically. Someone said there was some place in WinXP that you could disable the Automatic Restore Point creation. I just wanted to look there to make sure it was not "disabled." #2- Does ERUNT create automatic backups of Registry, or do I always have to tell it when to make backups? #3- When I click on the erunt_setup.exe, does it automatically install the program and create an icon on desktop?

    Registry backup

Thanks #4- How would we enable the "automatic" Restore Point (in the Backup/Restore) area, so that automatic Restore Points are created every 10 hours (?) of operation?
  3. I've read quite a few posts that state that before you do a CCleaner Registry clean after a scan, you should make a backup the Registry completely. #1- Would that be done every time you remove items from the Registry after running a CC Registry scan? #2- How does one do a "backup of the Registry completely?" #3- Would creating a Restore point be the same as backing up the Registry? #4- How would we enable the "automatic" backup (in the Backup/Restore) area, so that automatic Backups are created every 10 houea of operation? Thanks Alice

    SP3

I just installed SP3 on my computer and when I ran CCleaner I noticed a lot of items in the Registry. Can all of those "exceptions" be deleted? Has anyone else installed SP3 and saw the same thing and DID remove the Registry "exceptions?" Please advise and thank you. Alice
  5. Thank you all for your input. Sorry for all the confusion, etc. It is just something that is new to us (husband and me) and scary when we hear Registry. We have been using CCleaner for quite a long time and have have liked it's "performance." We decided to delete the 9 "keys" that appeared. It's a bit confusing because we asked our neighbor (who has a laptop but who has the same WinXP sp2) to open her Add/Remove, which she did, and when she did the Registry scan, nothing appeared. We opened the Add/Remove on our desktop and saw the 9 "keys" Issues after we ran the Registry scan again (and then we deleted them again). As I said, pretty confusing. (Wonder why (purpose) MS creates these 9 "keys" everytime we open Add/Remove on our desktop (and not on our neighbor's laptop). And why CC knows enough to find and 'say' these 9 "keys" can be deleted. Probably something we will never understand.) But as I said, we have deleted those 9 keys.
  6. #1- Why is it then that when I now open Add/Remove no more (like) entries are created in the ARPCache? #2- My wife posted a small query on the MS Forum about the entries and the answer she got was: "They aren't files, they are keys. Your first post shows this. Leave them alone. Jim" Please excuse my repeated questions about this 'problem,' but it is just so darn confusing. Some folks are saying okay to delete; others are saying do not delete....
  7. I thought someone from CCleaner would respond to my question as to WHY these 9 Issues are appearing after my Registry scan. And can they be SAFELY removed (I know they can be backed-up) without causing problems. If these Issues are appearing, one would assume they should/could be deleted. They all appear as: Problem:- Uninstaller Reference Issue Data - {5AC94E-06C7-///etc) Registry Key - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\ THEY ALL HAVE NUMBERS FOLLOWING THEM, SUCH AS: {125F0ACC-D3FC-402B-8096-2F6E46D00D} {45D68F08-56AO-4412-BB0F-8492BE978AC7} etal I unchecked one box at a time in boxes in left of screen while in CCleaner Registry, and the only time the 9 Issues do not show are when I unchecked the "INSTALLER" box. And so, I think, the people at CCleaner should know what this "INSTALLER" is picking up in the Registry and why it is being noted to be DELETED. As I said, I think the folks at CCleaner should know what these entries {125F0ACC-D3FC-402B-8096-2F6E46D00D} refer to and if/can they be SAFELY removed. Is it possible to have someone from CCleaner look at this question and supply an answer? We do not want to do anything that would ruin our computer? Or doesn't CCleaner people look at these posts? I've noticed that other people have had this 'problem' in the past, but I have not seen a proper response. Thank you for your understanding and patience with us.
  8. Do you mean every time I open the "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel, it creates one of those Issues that I referred to above? (Problem:- Uninstaller Reference Issue Date - {5AC94E-06C7-///etc) Registry Key - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\{D6E84D....etc.)) I opened the Add/Remove several times today and when I run the CCleaner Registry, it still shows the original 9 issues from yesterday. It doesn't show anymore issues (for the Add/Remove openings I did today!). I have NOT Added or Removed any Programs, and that is why I am confused. Please bear with us as we are completely new at this and do not know much about computers.
  9. Several days ago I ran the Registry scan and saw several items that had to be deleted. I deleted them and then today when I ran Registry scan I see more issues, all titled as follows: Problem:- Uninstaller Reference Issue Date - {5AC94E-06C7-///etc) Registry Key - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\{D6E84D....etc.) Someone said I should not delete these as they have to do with WinXP Add/Remove panel in Control Panel. And that if I do delete them, the Add/Remove in Control Panel will not work. We are senior citizens and this is very confusing and worrysome to us because we do not want anything to happen to our computer as we use it very often. (If we uncheck "Installer" at left and run Registry scan again, we do not see these Issues, and therefore think it is in the "Installer" category, whatever that is.) The only thing we are doing new is downloading updates to Turbo Tax every few days. What do we do? Please help us! We posted this problem yesterday on "Bugs," but do not see it today. Maybe it was deleted?

    Registry Issues

Something is wrong. I was going off-line tonight and ran CCleaner and then the Registry and saw the same (?) several Issues. Why do they keep appearing? I read some other post on the Web and people say if you remove them you will be removing the Remove funtions in the Add/Remove of Control Panel. Does anyone know what is going on? I am going to post this on the Bugs and see if anyone knows what is happening. Problem:- Uninstaller Reference Issue Date - {5AC94E-06C7-///etc) Registry Key - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCace\{D6E84D....etc.)

    Registry Issues

Thanks. I guess that is the answer I was looking for. I thought that Registry Issues ONLY appeared when a new "Program" was installed. Or when a new "Update" was installed (such as MS Critical Update). Or when a "Program" was deleted from the computer. Therefore, you would say it is "normal" for Registry Issues to appear even though a 'Program' was not installed or deleted or updated? They could appear when a particular program Opened?

    Registry Issues

But, as I said, that was a download on Feb. 3 and there were quite a few Registry Issues to be deleted after that download. I don't believe (?) that there would still be Registry Issues today from that download. None on Feb. 4 or 5.
  13. Last night I was closing down my computer after being online for a while. When I did the CCleaner Registry check it came up with several Issues, which I deleted. However, I realized that I had not installed or uninstalled any programs, etc. Why then any Registry Issues to be deleted? I didn't think there could be any Registry Issues if no programs were added/deleted! (I did downloaded the MS Critical Update for net.Framework on Feb. 3) I do remember that the Issues mentioned something about "uninstaller," if that means anything. Just a note: The only thing I remember doing was making IE my default browser (in Control Panel/Add-Remove/Set Program Access & Defautls/Custom) -- but I see it is back at "Use My Current Web Browser".
  14. Thank you. Sorry, but I do not understand.
  15. Thank you. We do see a few items in "My Documents" that are long numbers with CC. at beginning and .reg at end. I believe those are the numbers you are referring to. All we would have to do is put cursor over them and "right click" and then click MERGE, and it will AUTOMATICALLY restore the Registry to the way it was prior to the removal?
  16. When I run the Registry / Scan For Issues, I always have a back-up made. Luckily, have never needed to restore. #1- If I ever had to restore those files I deleted in the Registry cleaning, how would that be done? However, today I have read a few posts on boards that state cleaning the registry is quite dangerous and to not use that feature - if using CCleaner. #2- Has anyone else heard/read about this problem with Registry cleaning? #3- Any suggestions about using the Registry/Issues cleaner in CCleaner? Your comments would be appreciated as we wouldn't know what to do if CCleaner removed something from Registry that wouldn't allow us to use our computer. We couldn't afford to purchase another computer! We are quite concerned, my husband and I.
  17. Does anyone know when/if the SLIM version of 2.00.500 will be released? Thank you. Will it also have similar problems (slow running, etc.) as the other download(s)?
  18. Forgot to mention that I am using Vista Premium. I never see the "Registry Key: HKCU\Softwre\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\FileExt\Open With List\" when I run the Registry Scan in my WinXP notebook. What do we do? Do we just forget about it / ignore it whenever it shows up again? The other folks who see it say they are just ignoring it and deleting it every time it shows up (which, as I said, is every other day). Should CCleaner folks be made aware of this? We are not computer literate, so really cannot interpret computer language.
  19. I don't know if this is a bug or not, but thought I would submit it. We ran Issues scan the past few nights before closing down our notebook, and notice a few times in the "Issues" there was the following: Problem: Unused File Extenstion Data: Open With List Registry Key: HKCU\Softwre\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\FileExt\Open With List\ We keep deleting it (in CCleaner), but then a day or two later, we see it again when we run CCleaner again and look in Issues after a scan. Several folks have said they see the same thing. Thank you.
  20. Would anyone be using Vista Home Premium and CCleaner? We received new HP notebook with Vista Home Premium and have installed CCleaner. We ran scan of Issues the past few nights before closing down our notebook, and notice a few times in the "Issues" there was the following: Problem: Unused File Extenstion Data: Open With List Registry Key: HKCU\Softwre\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\FileExt\Open With List\ We keep deleting it (in CCleaner/ Issues), but then a day or two later, we see it again when we run CCleaner and look in Issues.(We opened the CCleaner by right clicking on the CCleaner.) Some other folks have told me they see they same thing and after deleting it, they notice it back again (in the "Issues) a day or two later. Anyone else see same thing? Thank you.
  21. Thanks. Didn't get the Vista notebook yet, but thought I would give it a try on our current notebook (WinXPsp2). Now I understand.
  22. How would this be done? (I right clicked on the CCleaner icon on my desktop (in WinXP) and saw 'compatibility,' but didn't see "run this program as an administrator." Thank you.
  23. We are contemplating purchasing a notebook with Vista premium. #1- Will CCleaner work with Vista Premium? #2- Someone mentioned something about installing as Administator. Just what did they mean and should I do that? I have been using CCleaner for quite a long time with my other notebook and desktop which both have WinXPsp2 and really like it. Thanks for any help.
