  1. Hi Guys ... been awhile Adblock Plus blocks scripts, frames, images and flash that are ads while Flashblock blocks ALL flash but allows you to turn them on. Flashblock will not remove the space that the flash is in while ABP will. The Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper is great but it takes a little getting used to. The element needs to be targeted as to not remove more than you want ... and because the same "element names" in the html code can be used for different things. It is not like just blocking a unique address like the regular adblocking rules are. Element-hiding is great for removing spaces and blocking text ads and other miscellaneous elements that you don't want on a page. Hope that helps.
  2. Yeah, I know JD. I did a couple of maintenece things last night and the forum seemed to snap back to life. It seems to be working fine from last night to this afternoon. I hope it continues to work ok. ps: Someone already left a post on my forum about despair.com: http://forums.lanik.us/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=1391#p6726 It was linked to here.
  3. Not any more (I'm going to take a look at the whole */banners/* thing soon and try to straighten that out).
  4. @Anthony A. Hi Anthony. Someone linked to this post from one of the other forums. It's been awhile since I've been in here. @ hazelnut: Thanx for telling me about the sig. That was the old forum that doesn't exist anymore. It should be correct now.
  5. theglobeandmail video is now fixed in the EasyList as of yesterday. It should work properly now
  6. It not as hard as you think with EHH in the 'Advance view'. All you have to do is select that TABLE with the google footer links in it. You'll see the x-path elements just above them. Select your TABLE variables for TABLE (just like always) ... but THEN select the HR item just above that and that variable. The code will be generated and you end up with: google.co.uk##HR.z + TABLE[width=100%][cellpadding=2] Works like a charm
  7. After highlighting, try using the "N" and "W" keys to zero in on the exact element that you need to hide. Hiding elements is tricky because some can be duplicated within the document. You really need to find something specific to the element that is not contained in the rest of the page. You can also use EHH to x-path to an element from a more defined element before that one.
  8. Congrads, xbrianx. Hope ABP works well for you. If you have any questions about ABP or the subscriptions ... I can help. ps: Thanx for the 'plug" JD
  9. Updates will work just fine 19 out of 20 times. But there have been many cases where every update brings problems for users on different Mozilla forums (just look at Mozillazine after any given update). Things like "Firefox won't shut down" ... "my bookmarks are gone" ..... lost my profile" .... "running very slowly" ... "won't start". Things like that. In almost EVERY case, the user has done an update and not a full install. Not that I'm saying that you always need to do it, but I would suggest doing it at least every third version to 're-stabilize' the program. But even though most of these are problems with Firefox updates, I don't take any chances with Thunderbird because they share a lot of similar 'parts'. It might be a small inconvenience to download and add the full install, but I find that it's a small price to avoid a potential problem.
  10. That may or may not be true. I guess it would depend on what is contained in that specific update ... even guys who write the small update file could miss something from a 'missed' version. Actually there have been historical problems doing an 'update' just from one version to the next. I have found that the only way to do Mozilla products right is to use the full-install version. I uninstall the old too first and then install the new one. I've been using Mozilla products for many years and have never had any problems updating by doing it this way.
  11. Of course it would. But you have to admit that 'jumping' versions just to keep in sync with another product in your lineup is kind of an odd thing to do. It really goes against how any software is 'versioned'. You don't just skip across numbers for the sake of version unison, do you? How do you arrive at an "0.0.4" release from an "0.0.1" without an "0.0.2" or "0.0.3"? I really can't think of any other software product that does this. It's just very odd from a 'traceability' aspect ... but it is their product and they can do what they want, I guess.
  12. I think this is the third time that they have 'skipped' versions to get back into sync with Firefox, Anthony. I remember them doing that at least a couple of times before. The problem is that there are more updates for Firefox than Thunderbird. Every now and then, Mozilla gets a little 'anal' and wants them to be the same. Then Firefox will have to bump another version while Thunderbird doesn't need one ... and so the cycle begins once again. I think they should just let the versions go where they go. It gets very confusing to the average user. Most think: "Wow, did I miss all of those updates? What happened to the updater in T-bird?"
  13. Thanx for the kudos. They're trying. I'm not sure how far they have gotten with trying to make ABP's special switches in the EasyList work in ie7pro. I don't think they are capable of element-hiding yet either, afaik. There has been a lot of talk about using the EasyList in MANY different browser/adblocking setups. Some have gotten it to work and some are currently available ... but I don't know how much of it works as good as ABP's flexibility and speed. To be very honest, I really don't care if or how it works in other browsers/programs as I don't use them nor do I support its use in them. I am 100% dedicated to ABP's syntaxes and interface. On the other hand, it's very flattering that they are all suggesting my lists for their interfaces. But stay tuned ... who knows. Everyone wants to build an adblocker. People just HATE ads!
  14. The 'Last downloaded' status date ALWAYS updates whether you do it manually or ABP does it automatically. But the subscription will only automatically update after 5 days from your 'last downloaded' status. If you keep manually updating it every couple of days, it will NEVER get to '5 days after the date' to do it automatically. Simply put .... if you just manually updated it today, it is not due to automatically update until the 28th. On that day it will update after 5 minutes of Firefox use. The subscription(s) will update with the latest ones (even if the subscription itself has not changed) and the 'last downloaded' status date will change to the 28th. There will be no 'popup' notification that it has been done ... it will just do it. The "Last updated" info (different from 'last downloaded") next to the subscription names tells you the last time that I modified that subscription. Hope that clarifies it .... think I covered it all. *EDIT ... added more info.
  15. No, (I probably wasn't clear) ..... it will give you the update info (but it won't say 'successful' unless you are watching when it happens)
