  1. Seems the same to me. I've been running 1.5 beta for some time now. I don't see a difference (other than the fact that I let TeaTimer do it's thing (before I didn't install it when I installed SBS&D.
  2. I, personally, don't see too much of a difference between avast! and AVG. They both are fine, but I like avast better because of the fact that you can customize its skins. Also, avast!'s scanning seems a bit faster than AVG, and it seems to take up less resources for my PC when it's scanning (which is something different than AVG). Like I heard somewhere else when I was reading posts (may have not been in this forum): if there was no AVG, Avast would probably be used in AVG's place.
  3. I use TeaTimer and it's pretty good. It tells me when there are changes to registry so I can tell if spyware/adware is trying to change registry settings. It's also pretty good at keeping some of the most common spyware (the ones that keep coming back) off my pc.
  4. I am not sure if CCleaner is programmed to work with Vista.
  5. You got that right. The only Registry clearn (besides CCleaner) that I've had no problems with is Registry Mechanic. I ran another utility that was called Windows Advanced Care (which has a registry cleaner), and it messed up my registry because i had problems (such as blue screens since i disabled auto restart on system failure) that were registry related.
  6. Indeed. I trust them alot because they've kept my computer running with no problems.
  7. Yeah, I wondered why they decided to add Yahoo Toobar when it's just extra garbage you don't even need. Either way, I didn't install it seeing as it's moreless useless for me.
  8. Using the Beta Version of CCleaner 2.0? I was just wondering that because I am using it myself. Although there is a disclaimer on the line where the link is, I still wanted to try it (even though it's potentially dangerous since it's in the Beta stage). Extra Comment after I posted this: >_< Crap, I should have posted this in the CCleaner Discussion...
  9. I think you'll enjoy it alot here. The community around here seems VERY COOl. I am glad they're not tightwads like another community I am in.
  10. POS is an understatement, Anthony. Omg, not only did it hog my resources, it caused my computer to crash for no good reason.
  11. Although this is not on-topic, I have a question for you, Twisted Metal. I looked at the info on Dial a Fix, but I still don't understand what I should actually use it for. It seems pretty cool (based on what I saw), but I want to know how you feel on the software before I use it. Thank you for a response, Twisted.
  12. Very true. So far, I only use Spybot Search & Destroy, Avast! Anti Virus, and Comodo Firewall; I've had very few spyware problems. I use Firefox so that aids in avoiding spyware, and Avast also can help with malware: it prevented me from downloading malware once (I wasn't aware of the download being malware). There are several hundreads of thousands of Anti-Spyware programs, but you should probably try some out, pick what you find to be the best, and stick with it. I am using all freeware programs and I am not having too many problems (none at all actually) as it is.
  13. Not too sure if Scheduled Tasks will do that, but you can (if your program allows you to do this) set your Anti-Virus and Spyware Programs to run at certain times at certain points of the day, week, or month. Alot of programs allow you to specify certain times to scan.
  14. I tried that one too, and it is just wonderful. Again, thank everyone for their responses.
  15. Ya, we are. I tried that program you mentioned, and it works like a charm. Thanks for your help.
  16. You could use the Scheduled Tasks function of Windows XP. You could probably set those tasks on separate times. Go to Control Panel, and (in Classic View) double-click Schedule Task.
  17. When you say boot skin, do you mean the little Windows XP Symbol on the boot screen? That's exactly what I mean.
  18. I know there is a way to use 3rd party themes for Windows XP, but is there a way where you can change the loading screen's look (you know, the one that appears before you are presented the user login screen)? Thank you in advance for any replies.
  19. Ran mine on Mozilla FireFox 2.0.0.5. No vulnerabilities found.
  20. Thank you JD for the patcher. This is really awesome.
  21. I don't mean to but into this thread, but do either of you guys know how to get new themes for XP other than the ones installed on it? I mean, like the one you where talking about, Anthony, not those themes for 98 and below. Thank you for responding if you do.
  22. Yes, I got a bunch of good info (on Avast and other topics ) "Here is a link to some avast skins so you can pick what suites you." That was one of the first places I went to after I downloaded Avast!
  23. OMG! You guys hi-jacked my post! Just joking. I see not a lot of people seem to like the GUI for Avast, but you guys seem to say it's ok. For now, I think I am going to stick with Avast. AVG started to slow down my boot time alot (I don't know why), and since I switched to Avast! it seems to be much faster.
  24. Why do you think it has such a horrible user interface? I actually like it.
