  1. I would do two things: 1. Reset all of Internet Explorer's settings to default: Go to setting(gear icon in the top right)>internet options>Advanced> Press reset. 2. Make sure you have newest version of Flash installed: http://www.filehippo...layer_ie/10706/
  2. Ok so I upgraded this laptop. I was browsing the bestbuy site yesterday and found this: http://www.bestbuy.c...0&skuId=3558127 For $20 more I knew I would be crazy not to get it instead. It doesnt have usb 3 and the webcam sucks, but its got more ram, better processor/graphics and its got a WAY better keyboard. The keyboard on the gateway sucked. This one is also built a lot better.
  3. I'll try that but I think I did a crappy job of discussing the problem. The cursor disappears and then doesn't reappear when I click to edit somewhere. Its impossible to figure out where the invisible cursor is to edit what I wrote unless I press a key and see where it appears at. Its a relatively new issue that I've only been having with the last couple of versions.
  4. No it wasn't because of any of those reasons. Its because that chip was slow as hell. It was single core and the graphics chip is was paired with was crap too. The only thing I liked about that pc was that HP has started putting a restore option in their laptops where you can restore without any crapware installed. BTW, I have plenty of experience with computers. I wasn't really looking for advice on how to fix that machine(I DON"T EVEN HAVE IT ANYMORE)
  5. I actually like it a lot too. I love its minimalist interface and it loads pages just as fast as any of the other browsers. The only thing I don't like is the lack of spell check and the lack of adblock plus. If it had those, I would use it no questions asked. I'm about sick of firefox right now. I keep having it load blank pages, freeze, and on sites where I can type the cursor keeps disappearing(especially on gmail which my university uses for their email system.)
  6. I've never dealt with their support so I cant comment on that. I'm really impressed with this machine for its price. The machine feels well built and the keyboard is great. (not much flex when you press on it, some of the laptops I looked at felt like they would snap in half.) I bought an AMD V140(I think it was called this) HP laptop about a year ago because it was on clearance. I wanted it because I hated going back to my old Pentium M because it had XP on it, but the PC actually felt slower than my old laptop. I returned it and decided I would keep what I had for a while. I haven't had much time to try playing HD videos from my camera or netflix yet, but I'm sure they play fine. My old laptop stuttered on HD youtube and this one plays fine.
  7. I'm not liking the last couple versions of firefox. Its not crashing, but it seems like its slowing down A LOT at times. I'm also having problems with it hanging and loading lots of blank pages. I'm actually using IE9 to post this right now because of this(so if you notice me suddenly having aweful spelling, this is why. )
  8. Ok, so I bought a new laptop... In the past I was relying on a very old 1.4ghz pentium m laptop that I bought about 4 1/2 years ago right before I was starting college. I only used it sporadically so I elected to not upgrade it and keep on using my desktop as my main pc. I had to get a new one though because I started student teaching this semester and I needed something better to interact with the school's promethean board.(those things are AWESOME by the way, I want one in my house. ) Here is what I got: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Celeron%26%23174%3B+Processor+/+15.6%26%2334%3B+Display+/+2GB+Memory+-+Black/3590335.p?id=1218417135361&skuId=3590335 Yep its a celeron, but its based on the new Sandy Bridge processors. Its got lots of their features disabled but I have to say that for a laptop that was less than $300 I'm pretty impressed with it. I was going to get one based on ATI's E-350 but the processor in this one spanks those.(the graphics on the e-350 are better but the Intel HD 3000 does everything I want it to do anyway and it has HDMI out and usb 3.0) I wish I could have waited until black friday but I needed something now. I have a few days where I can still return it but so far I'm liking it a lot. Here is the windows performance screen on it:
  9. Not surprising. Gadgets are disabled in 7 already and 8 has those new tiles. When I read the topic title I thought it was the photo storage service.
  10. I got my tickets! So excited.
  11. I just heard a local radio station is supposed to announce on Monday that GNR is coming to Atlanta in November! Cant Wait!
  12. I have a HP printer that I've had for a while and I just use the default windows 7 printer driver as HP's drivers suck. I don't have an option to save directly to pdf: I want a program thats going to scan a document and save it directly as pdf. I'll look into the ones you listed. I'll also see if the hp drivers will let me do this, but I'd rather not install them as they are pretty bloated.
  13. Anyone know of a free/cheap program that will allow me to scan directly to pdf files?
  14. yes you have one open PCI express slot. Pci-e is an abreviation .
  15. when I met my fiancee 3 years ago she had a eye brow ring. Really small but it didn't matter, it had to go. She surprised me on the third date, when I picked her up it was gone. I never said anything about it but she told me she knew I didn't like it. I asked her how she knew and she said I kept starring at it.
  16. thanks for the advice Nergal. I took your advice and got the preware documentation. So far I have uber kernal and an adblocker installed. How big a difference does that bfq scheduler make in regards to speed and battery life?
  17. This is from my house. I'll have to try it from school the next time I'm on campus. None of these numbers matter too much anyway, the fastest downloads I ever seem to get is 1mb/sec if the servers are really good(filehippo and maybe MS updates)
  18. my touchpad came today! So far I'm pretty impressed. Screen is beautiful and the browser is the best ive used on a portable device. Gonna play with the apps later.
  19. Yeah it's real. I got mine from the HP official site yesterday. 2 16gb models for $180.
  20. Web OS is a Palm customized version of Linux. I don't have mine yet(as I ordered online), but I'll be sure to post about it once they come.(5-7 days. ) I did however get them for a little cheaper with a student discount so I guess I can wait.
  21. Yeah, I'm not going to do it anytime soon. The hardware inside is pretty similar to all the other tablets so I figure someone will figure out a way to do it eventually. Web OS is pretty cool, I just plan to move to android once its not supported anymore with things like flash.
  22. I wouldn't use anything older than xp if going with windows. Their old, unsupported, and generally crappy. I have a netbook with windows 7 starter and it works fine. Netbooks aren't built for speed anyway, but at least with windows all your hardware works perfectly and your battery life should be much better than with linux(as windows is way better at scaling power usage) which is really all that matters with a netbook.
