  1. Well I used Download Accelerator Plus when I used a modem it was great for downloading large files. I suppose you're on broadband or something similar therefore you shouldn't loose your connection. Using DAP won't increase your download speed its just convenient for modem users.
  2. Yes I download xpinfo-exe its not an official M$ thing but that says I'm Full Licensed. You can actually Google for xpinfo-exe as my browser is still playing up as bit. I mistakenly installed WGA when I had WinXP on before because it was a critical update. Of course you don't read all the small print. Once its installed you can't uninstall it. I had to do a system restore to get rid of it. The same critical update show on my new computer a couple of weeks ago and IE8 so I removed the checks and installed the rest. Now for the past couple of weeks I get the red icon in the systray saying your not protected because I switch the automatic updates off. I ticked Notify me but don't download or install them. I don't get any notification anymore not that I'm bothered because I went to M$ to check what updates I need. After it scans it says I'm not an authorised user, so up theirs. I had an email of M$ yesterday about this Microsoft Security Essentials(MSE) it says you have to register to use it or something.
  3. Welcome to Piriform Dave. Just in case you don't know what MrRon is talking about have a read here.
  4. @MrRon does CC have the ability to run in ...\ccleaner.exe /debug mode the same as Recuva and Defraggler do? I don't see it listed in the help docs.
  5. Welcome to Piriform ProPaan. Well I've just ran CC and Recuva and they both show the correct format 2.7GB RAM even though I have 4GB. Mind you Windows doesn't recognise the true size. I don't know if its how you have your Regional and Language Options are set to show , instead of .
  6. Well Andavari I've never seen that message before with CC or any other program apart from some games programs ask for the CD to be inserted before they will run. I haven't had a CD in there for hours and its still asking now. Ok then I've just put 2.21.940 back in and done a Registry scan no problem. I've come out and put 2.23.993 back in and tried to do a Registry scan and its asking for the disk again. Can you explain that one?
  7. I'm just curious Hazel. Do you have to be a WGA user or will it install without. I've said before on here I bought my genuine WinXP 2002 SP2 4 years ago. Installed it and registered it didn't like it and I put Win98SE back. I installed it again late last year and had loads of problems with official downloads I put WinME back. I have a new computer 5 weeks ago, now while it was being built for me I decided to download the updates WMP 10 and 11. When I got the computer and installed my WinXP I installed WMP 10 no problem. Gave it a try all ok. I tried to install WMP 11 but it needs to verify an official registered user. I hadn't registered online, I set my connection up and registered online no problem then WMP 11 would install. The other day I was making a music CD and trying the mp3's on WMP all ok. I burnt the CD put it back in and told WMP to play and it kept on throwing up errors. I tried my mp3 files and that through the same errors, I've just played them 20 minutes ago. I thought I will reinstall WMP just in case something is corrupt and it wouldn't install, I'm not a authorised user (I don't have WGA installed after the last computer). I run Activate Windows and it says it already activated. I uninstall 11 which put 10 back in and everything plays as it should do. I have to same problem when I want to update Windows files not an authentic user. Sorry to bore you on this topic, I could write a topic on this subject on my own.
  8. Well I can't see why there has to be a fix for IE. Every other zip I download I can open but this one. The easiest way would be to have 3 Quote or Code boxes and copy and paste the code out of each file into each box then we could copy and paste and make our own ini files.
  9. But you still haven't changed displaying the View Summary Results and View Detailed Results button as I mensioned in the last update. So I'm going back to 2.21.940 again. I've just done a quick check with the Regsitry cleaner. Why do I get the message There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive E: ? If you click Cancel or Continue it doesn't, you have to click it 5 or 6 times. Its never checked drives before.
  10. Those are exactly the same files that I downloaded last month in embedded_INIs_v221.zip
  11. Welcome to Piriform vort3x, fellow VB user. Well I've old been using VB2008Express for a couple of days and I haven't really noticed any extra files in there. That folder is totally clean when I've just looked. What you could do is add that folder to the Options\Include button and click the Add Folder, find the exact folder then click OK. This will add C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET\*.* meaning the next time you do a clean it will delete ALL files in that folder. Is that any better for you?
  12. Welcome to Piriform detzero. Thats is the default installer thats worked pretty good for a long time. When I install I remove everything except the desktop icon thats all I need. If the user can't remove ticks out of checkboxes then I wouldn't bother installing, would you?
  13. It seems strange that one of your bosses wants this. Doesn't he like it on the works computers? Its funny he's asking you about a silent uninstall, don't you have an IT section? If you use the INI options then you can put the CC folder onto a flash drive and it will work perfectly from there as all the settings are stored in the ccleaner.ini file. Where I work at a college we used to have CC installed but it was about 20 versions behind the current one. I asked the IT techs to install then newer versions and they wouldn't because it for private use and it does a regitry clean, bull. So I just put it on a flash drive and run it from there.
  14. Hi guys/gals. I'm sorry if I've posted in the wrong forum as I'm not sure if its classed as Spyware Hell or Windows Security, either way if the mods could move it for me. For the past week or so the search engines haven't been working as they should do. I use Google as my home page and what normally happens is you enter some words to search for and you get the results listed below. If you click on one of the links the same tab opens that site up and you click the back button and you go back to the original list. What has been happening recently is you click on a link and a new window opens and you get some obscure search engine up or you get porn. I don't mind the porn only when I'm searching for it. I use other search engines on occasions in a sub folder so I can compare http://www.altavista.co.uk/ http://www.ask.com/ http://www.dogpile.com/ http://www.excite.co.uk/ http://www.google.co.uk/ http://www.hotbot.com/ http://www.lycos.co.uk/ http://www.mamma.com/ http://uk.yahoo.com/?p=us http://in.yauba.com/ At the moment Yahoo is working ok but I get the occasional glitch in there. Now I thought is it spyware or malware thats crept in. I use the Yahoo toobar so I enabled the Anti-Spy and downloaded and install the software. I did a full scan and it only picked up on a 5 torrent sites that I use. Now one of them I've been using for the past 4 weeks so I know its not that one. The others I clicked on them last night just to check them out so I know its not one of those. I've also noticed that you don't get the usual search help on Google. When you type something in to search for you get the list of words associated with it. Its about the time when I got these warnings (attached) when I clicked on other sites and if I click allow then it want to download a setup.exe file. Are all you're search engines working as they should do? I didn't know I had any Windows Internet Security installed or is this part of the scam? Can anyone recommend a good spyware/malware hunter?
  15. Welcome to Piriform amd. Yes just delete the CCleaner folder. Why would you want a silent uninstall anyway? Are you trying to uninstall someone elses without they knowing?
  16. My brother in law had a new computer last year and he asked if I could save his emails of his old computer so he could put them on the new one. Well the other crap thing about WinXP is if you do a search or *.dbx files it can never find them. They aren't in an hidden folder either. If you open OE6 up and click on Tools/Options and click on the Maintenance tab there is a Store Folder button you can specify the location of these dbx files. But that never works either the folder is empty but the location is correct and all my email folders are still showing. I mensioned this the other day then the next time I checked they reappeared again. Thinking about it 4000 emails in your inbox is a lot considering if you lost the inbox.dbx. I think you really need to re-organise you files an bit better.
  17. Yes I thought that when Avast 4 is only one available at the moment.
  18. Sorry Andavari I must have missed that post. Thanks again for pointing this out.
  19. Welcome to Piriform Schwein. Well a simple way around this for the moment is create a short-cut for ccleaner.exe and put it in the Start\Programs\Startup folder. Everytime Windows starts up it will run CC.
  20. No I haven't paid for anything. Everytime you open Avast up of your desktop it asks for the registration number which a pain in the backside. I have 69,275 serials so I use one of those and it says "Thank you for registering" so I'm happy.
  21. You right Hazel its in there along with feeds what ever those are. Thanks you're a gem again. I've been having another slight problem the last couple of days. I use google.co.uk as my home page. If I type something in to search for then list comes up. If I click on a link it normally shows on the same page. Now it opens a new page with someone elses search engine or porn. I uninstalled IE7.0 so it put back 6.0 and that did the same so I reinstalled 7.0 again. Now AltaVista, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, Lycos and Mamma all show as they should do. Please don't say use FireFox or Opera.
  22. I see they now showing as they should do for the last couple of days.
  23. Ok I've uninstalled Avast and installed Avast! Home Edition 4.8.1351 and the same serial number works for both editions. Aren't I lucky.
  24. Welcome to Piriform wrkmpls. I think thats a bit of miss-understood statement. CC uses the same uninstaller that Windows uses in Control Panel - Add/Remove. It doesn't clean any additional files that have been installed thats up to the uninstaller.

Welcome to Piriform Stan. It doesn't sound like a virus thats the Microsoft Blue Screen Of Death. What you need to do is start the computer up in Safe Mode. Now we are assuming your running either WinXP or Vista so as its starting up keep dabbing the F8 key every second unitl you see the boot menu. If your using Win98/ME then you just keep the Ctrl key pressed while its booting. (I don't know why they didn't adopt this system on the later Windows?) Then use the cursor keys to highlight Safe Mode and press enter. Once it up and running in Safe Mode you could always do a full drive scan for a virus if you suspect one. Then you can do a System Restore back 1 day then it will restart. If 1 day doesn't work try 2 days or more until it starts up correctly. Start/Programs/Accesseries/System Tools/System Restore. As suggested you too many Registry checkers on your system, dump them apart from CC as thats only a mild one which can easily be reversed.
