  1. Your description in the first paragraph is dead on about what I was using CCleaner to do. Thank goodness you were able to word it better than me. As for the problem, I seem to have it fixed. I installed some updated specific drivers for my Nvidia chipset. The drivers from Nvidia were over a year old, so I installed a custom updated set from a forum dedicated to Nvidia drivers. Since updating the chipset drivers I'm not having problems with any of the problems I was previously having.
  2. Ah. I understand now what you meant. CCleaner is not accessing those other drives. I have it set to only remove stuff from C: drive. The problem I had was when I would run CCleaner in secure file deletion mode and it got to emptying the recycle bin... it would take ages to erase files that were shown as coming from the E: drive. So other than that... CCleaner is not supposed to be removing anything from C:.
  3. I only have the problem if I am using secure file deletion. If I run normal file deletion everything works fine and the process is finished in 5 seconds at most. However, if I switch to secure file deletion, the problem starts. Even a simple overwrite (1 pass) can take 4 hours. On my old install of Vista I could do a 3 pass overwrite and it would take no longer than a minute. So I'm just using normal file deletion for now since it does not cause any problems.
  4. The strange thing is that the files that are trying to be erased from the recycle bin are not the names of any files on my E: drive. They're like a bunch of jumbled letters. An example is in the pic I posted. No, I do not use a virtual machine. I formatted my E: drive when I first installed it into my computer. I've not formatted it since then because I have a lot of data on it. I have not uninstalled in Device Manager and then scanned for new hardware. I have however installed some new modded Nvidia drivers to see if they help the problem. My old drivers were from April of 2007. So maybe these newer versions will help. Augeas, I don't quite understand your question. I would like to use the secure erase method to clean my data, but that's when the problem occurs. If I use the normal method then there is no problem.
  5. I have used hdtune and it's not finding any errors. I have also ran check disk and it finds no errors on the disk either.
  6. Let's see here. CCleaner Version: 2.06.567 OS Version: Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 Browsers and versions: Firefox 2.0.0.13 and IE7 with all the latest updates. Security Software: Had Kaspersky Anti-Virus installed, but uninstalled a few days ago to see if maybe some of it's drivers/processes were causing a problem. Other data that might be of interest: this only happens with files that were located on drive e:. Frives C: or D: do not have this problem. I've also had problems with the Secure Eraser program from Ace Utilities when I use it on files on drive E:. It will lock up and stop responding. Also, Winrar will respond the same way. It will sometimes unzip files perfectly; other times it will just stop and lock up during the process. Again, this only happens with files on drive E: Drive C: is ATA and drives D: and E: are SATA. I had no other programs running when CCleaner was doing it's thing. I left it running while I was gone to work so I was sure the process would not be interrupted. I've also left it run for over an hour and then canceled the task and the program would lock up. I would reboot and start it over again and it would pick up where it left off. I'm fairly sure it has something to do with my E: drive, but I can't figure it out. I have all the same settings I did before I upgraded to Vista SP1, but now I'm having these problems. Hopefully some of you smart people can help me out.
  7. This past weekend I upgraded to Vista SP1. Since then I've been having some problems with CCleaner. I use my E: drive for video files, and often delete files from it randing from 1mb to 200mb. Most of the time I can delete them and then empty the recycle bin, and CCleaner works perfectly the next time I run it. Sometimes, however, as I'll show in the pic below, I can run CCleaner, and even though there is nothing in the recycle bin, it will run for long periods of time trying to erase something. I've left it running for over 4 hours before to just delete a few files it believes are in the recycle bin and when it's finished it says it erased around 0.87mb. Any ideas what could be causing this problem? Thanks in advance for any help.
  8. Lately I've been getting random crashes. Sometimes CCleaner will work perfectly, and sometimes it crashes while deleting files. If it does crash, I can then sometimes open back up and try deleting again and it will work perfectly. I am using Windows Vista with all the latest patches applies. CCleaner is set to Secure Deletion DOD 5220.22-M. Here is the crash info it gave me on the last crash: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: CCleaner.exe Application Version: 1.40.0.520 Application Timestamp: 4642f72d Fault Module Name: MSVBVM60.DLL Fault Module Version: 6.0.97.97 Fault Module Timestamp: 4549bd5e Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0000ad30 OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 9dc0 Additional Information 2: 5699c8ff6b53cd2fdf0afbccdb075a1b Additional Information 3: 9bfd Additional Information 4: 18c217d25b4d18b0dd7ac0edfce73660 Thanks for any help you can give.
  9. Thanks for the quick reply. That seems to have fixed my problem.
  10. First I wanna start by saying I love the program and am grateful for all the hard work you all put into it. Yesterday I updated to the latest release of CCleaner and ever since I have had a problem with Firefox. Each time I run CCleaner, the next time I open Firefox it says that Firefox is not my default browser, would I like to make it the default browser. I click yes and it's set back to default. Weird thing is, I didn't change any of the program settings when I updated. I left everything the way it was in the previous version. Under the Firefox/Mozilla sections I have everything checked except Saved Form Information; just as I always have. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks for any help. *N:ea:L*
