I will wait a couple of days and if you are still able to post here, then I'll do my updates
Oh ye of little faith.
I still have my old For Sale XP Home system as I have not had a call about it yet.
Maybe I should have have put it in trade for the new Vista system but I want to sell the complete system with its monitor and computer desk as well.
I learned a new word today "nullifidian" while looking up "Oh ye of little faith."
HAHA!!! said with Nelson Muntz's voice.
I don't like software firewalls neither since watching Malwarebytes MBAM developer Bruce Harrison discus software firewalls:
http://www.besttechie.net/2008/08/20/malwa...loper-interview <== firewall discussion starts about 8 minutes into the video.
I recommend watching the whole video as it has some great information

I just updated my XP Pro system with (KB960225), (KB938464) and (KB958690).

Here's the SiteAdvisor details about that site:
http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/experts-exchange.com
Strange that SiteAdvisor flags it as "green" with some of the stuff detected.
SiteAdvisor is just like other McAfee products that are as nimble as a garden snail and when they leave they deposit stuff that is a bit hard to remove.
Unfortunately I paid for SiteAdvisor PLUS a while back when SiteAdvisor was good just after they purchased it but like other companies that borge smaller ones that have a good product it falls into disarray after a while.

I see you have a similar background to me but you seem to have a problem with quoting text.
quote name='YoKenny' date='Mar 10 2009, 03:00 AM' post='130643']How about one from me.
I started in '67 and retired in '98 and I was in Technical Support on Large Systems and Telecommunications and used to read ASCII and BSC line traces like a book.
I worked with the first PCs that had 2 5.25in floppies all the way up to the then latest PS/2 models with OS/2 with its Communication Manager.
Why would the CCleaner development team want to work on a problem that is probably fixed in SP3 for one user with a problem when there are millions of other happy users without a problem?

Welcome Duke49
What operating system do you use?
What is a VB ERASER?

mabe that's why the weirdos come out and systems do weird things?

Very interesting story this.
As Humpty pointed out take care as to which links you click on if you google this.
I see Web of Trust (WoT) flags one and hpHosts file blocks experts-exchange.com
-
I don't know Humpty as I would never use ZoneAlarm nor Semantic anti virus products.
There is lots of interesting things that are coming up in Google:

Every once in a while I will go to the hard drive Properties then Disk cleanup then More Options then Clean up... to remove old Restore Points.
I mean the Vista shut down isn't a true shut down eitherOn my Vista system when I shut it down then it is definitely off.
Have you set the system to either go into Sleep or Suspended state?

Be careful to un-select the Toolbar, Ask.com and eBay pre-selects.

Reading the Microsoft.public.windowupdate newsgroup is my excuse. I have always installed all the updates issued by MS but not going to install sp3 no matter how many lashes you lay on me M_Lyons. LOL
But thanks for your concern.
How about one from me.
The Microsoft.public.windowupdate newsgroup is comprised of a few Microsoft haters, computer n00bs that would have difficulty with an electronic calculator and the few of the 90+ million Windows users that have a problem following directions plus the people that are angry that Microsoft wont permit updates for their pirated Windows.
Which one are you?

My AV (AVIRA Antivir) detects the LINK (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/Flash_Disinfector.exe)is WORM /Generics.4084
That is a False positive because it downloads fine with avast! and is not malware according to Malwarebytes MBAM.
Send in a False positive report to Avira AntiVir.
When I fire up my XP Pro system with Avira AntiVir I'll check it out.
Added info: It is a false positive and I tried to report it but I had a problem:

I believe in Layered Security which is having multiple applications that protect different aspects of a system such as keeping Windows up to date and a firewall, HOSTS file and security applications.
I have Windows set to Automatically update but others prefer to wait 3-5 days to update so then setting Windows to notify about available updates is the minimum security for Windows.
The Windows firewall is quite adequate if accompanied with a hardware firewall.
My ISP supplied modem has a built in firewall so I do not use a software firewall.
See:

The HOSTS files I use I use are hpHosts and MVPS:

The security applications I use :
avast! anti virus, Windows Defender updated daily from its portal and WinPatrol:

Thanks for the welcome. I just joined the forum today trying to get an answer to my problem.
Files are stored:
C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/LocalSettings/Temp.Internet Files

Are you running as Administrator or with a Limited User Account?

I'm glad you are still with us and I know how devastating being in a car accident can be as I was in an accident ages ago and I still have lingering problems with a sore neck and hips that ache especially when the forecast is for rain or snow.
It is due to whiplash that left me with Sciatica in my lower back.

Yes, I'm experiencing the very same problem. I'm running Win XP, SP3 with IE7 on 3 computers. The program isn't cleaning my Temp Internet Files on all three computers. I have to go into IE7,Tools, Internet Options, Delete, Delete All. I've run CCleaner several times now on all 3 computers and it simply doesn't clean.
Regards,
Denise
Welcome Denise
Are the Temp Internet Files in the default location?
What is the location they are in?

I'm using V8.02.00.107 on my XP Pro system with Avira Premium which is the latest non-beta release.there's numerous posts around the net regarding this issue.I should have mentioned versions:
ccleaner v 2.17.853
avira premium security suite , product version 8.2.0.252
with web guard activated.
Keeping two folders does not mean messing with the program.

I do not like software based firewalls as they seem to mess up too much.
Have a look at the Avira forum in the Suite area to see all the problems the firewall is causing:
http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=...amp;boardID=131

On my XP Pro system with Avira I looked in WINDOWS\TEMP folder and I do not see any files of those names there and in fact I do not see any file nor Folder called WEBGUARD on the hard drive.
The Internet connection works great as well or I would be real upset if CCleaner messed with that.
-
I hope that avast! and Avira AntiVir pick up on these mutants as well.
I guess things are just as bad in the malware creation world as in the financial world and they are looking for any handout they can gather.

A third version of Downadup has been identified by Symantec, which says the new variant gives infected machines more powerful instructions to disable antivirus software and analysis tools, among other actions.

I tried the Panda USB protection application on one of my Flash drives already protected by Flash_Disinfector on my Vista system and it complained that it could not protect it.

Fags are popular in San Francisco but there's not much call for duvets though. In this multi-national arena you've got to think carefully about what you call a lot of things. Having a fag probably conjures up a different image on your side of the pond than it does on mine.I was gonna call it a quilt, but that sounds naffer than duvet. I'll stick with duvet I think.

Agreed. I did my signature over and although it isn't as pretty and techno as the CPU-Z ID info, it still does the job
That's better and gets the point across.
I'm not jealous because I am in a way self-employed but retired at the same time with a great pension and plenty of time on my hands but I have to be careful that The Devil makes work for idle hands does not creep into my daily life.
