  1. IE8 doesn't open multiple tabs unless you force it to. Kind of a drag.
I'm a serial kinda guy so it does what I want.

Oh, and how long does it take to install IE8 as opposed to any other browser available? Makes AVG8 look like Slimfast.
Installs just fine on my modern equipment.
  2. 4.Slooow , featureless and isn't really better than previous version you-fool-038.gif

    5.Try harder next time, IE8 wave 1 ,wave 2 , 9, 10 ...whatever

Works just fine on my old XP Pro system and great on my new Vista system. :P

  3. I downloaded IE8 today and it worked fine but IE7Pro doesn't seems to work well with the new IE.

I had a bit of a problem with IE7Pro and found that Show Wider IE7pro icon in the display area (*) has to be checked.

Looking forward to a IE8Pro version.

  4. I'm using it now on my XP Pro system

    Microsoft Releases IE8, Stresses Security

    Elizabeth Montalbano, IDG News Service

Microsoft plans to make its Internet Explorer 8 browser available on Thursday, along with a company-commissioned report claiming IE8 is more secure against malware than rival browsers from Mozilla and Google.

Users will be able to download IE8 in 25 languages at 12:00 noon Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday from Microsoft's IE Web site and its online download center.

I had one heck of a time getting it to download and even called Microsoft support and he was stumped so I completely disabled Avira AntiVir and was able to download and install it.

What else to do on a breezy, Cloudy cool day in Canada EH!

I'm sure going to let the Avira AntiVir folks know that the Version 9 update is working great

  5. Not in the PC area though. TP, Supermarket, 8100, banking.
I was at the other end where the big hummers and 3705 TP controllers and hundreds of phone company lines where.

  6. Pwn2Own trifecta: Hacker exploits IE8, Firefox, Safari

VANCOUVER, BC ? It took a while longer but Microsoft?s Internet Explorer 8 did not survive the hacker onslaught at this year?s CanSecWest Pwn2Own contest.

A security researcher named ?Nils? (he declined to provide his full name) performed a clean drive-by download attack against the world?s most widely used browser to take full control of a Sony Vaio machine running Windows 7.

He won a cash prize and got to keep the hardware. Details of the vulnerability, which was described by contest sponsor TippingPoint ZDI as a ?brilliant IE8 bug!? are being kept under wraps.

  7. I see on the news this morning that she passed away yesterday:

I have skied many times at Mont Tremblant and have many good memories about it as that is where I learned to ski.

The ski instructor that I had was Swiss if I remember and on the last day we had a lunch a the top in the restaurant with hot chocolate, baguettes and cheese accompanied with what he called "Turn oil" that was wine that loosened us up and made us able to turn easier.

  8. did read that using Msconfig to uncheck can remove the restore points, I think this is normal?

My main problem now is that I can not un-check in Msconfig.

Msconfig is a dangerous tool and should not be used unless directed by an expert.

Change Msconfig back to Normal Startup unless you are using Vista then it should be Selective startup.

WinPatrol is a good application for managing Startup items:

  9. I found a note somewhere about ie7pro and installed it in error.
    What happened?

Now I still get the iespell error but I notice that words spelled wrong are red underlined.

How do I get it to give the correct spelling for the words.

right click to bring up spelling choices.

Is ie7pro and iespell the same, just upgraded?
I forget what IESpell works like as it has been ages since I use it because I use IE7Pro

Cut-n-paste is the best thing since sliced bread:

http://www.digitalmidget.com/help/cutpaste/index.php <== ignore "But, when it comes to cut and paste with HTML or javascript code" and go to the Slide show and right click come in handy as well as Select all (Ctrl+A) Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) Note: Ctrl+ means depress the Ctrl key and the other key at the same time.

I'm a retired hardware guy but luckily was in the support area for IBM PC's when they first came out and could not use a keyboard unless I used the Two finger method.

  10. Hi All form Tom B the Newbie.

This is a test. I added my photo and need to know if it worked.

If you see kojack it worked! This will fix the confusinon re the other Tom.B..

Also I sent a reply to Yokenny using the reply in the box with his post.

I do not see this reply of mine here.

Did this only go to Yokenny? or did I not do it correct.

Yokenny please let me know if you got my reply. Thanks.

On the right there is a # that if you click on it it will permit you to copy ( Ctrl+C ) the item reference number so that you can paste ( Ctrl+V ) into your reply:

To Yokenny.. I used both un-install and the Norton remove program, then used regedit to remove a file ending \NetDetect... Part of Pandex Trojan (I think) that looks like part of Norton.
    NetDetect is part of Norton:

    Google is your friend.

  11. Copy-n-paste

    3. How do I get an e-mail when a new post is posted for a TOPIC not the whole Forum?
Use the Options drop down menu "Track this topic"

You will find that it becomes very annoying after a while.

Why not grab your favorite beverage and look for the highlighted topic areas then browse them at you leisure.

    4. To the left of the list of forums are things like Pinned, and a pair, and smiles, etc.

    5. Where is there a list of their meanings?

Pinned are important topics and I'm not sure what you mean by pair.

Smiles are the little pics on the left ;)B):)

    8. How do I get the spell check to work? ( I get an error ie spell not detected) (OK does not fix it?)
I use IE7Pro for spell check:

  12. Messing with solid state things with power on is fraught with danger to the device and its contents in my experience.

I have always made sure that whatever I have that is accessing the device like Explorer or Media Player is closed first then select Safely Remove Hardware and wait for the message that it is OK to remove the device then remove it.

If you do not obey this rule then it is just like if you are speeding or driving reckless in a car then either you will be in an accident or a Police cruiser will appear and present you with a heavy fine and maybe some jail time. :o

    I like Dial-a-fix

  14. Massive Profits Fueling Rogue Antivirus Market

In the cyber underworld, more and more individuals are generating six-figure paychecks each month by tricking unknowing computer users into installing rogue anti-virus and security products, new data suggests.

One service, that exemplifies a very easy way these bad guys can make this kind of money is TrafficConverter.biz, one of the leading "affiliate programs" that pays people to distribute relatively worthless security software. Affiliates are given a range of links and Javascript snippets they can use to embed the software in hacked and malicious Web sites, or tainted banner advertisements online.
