Admiral Ross, what does client.exe do in the Uptime application? I downloaded and uziped it then double clicked on it but nothing appears to happen I see it running in the Task Manager. Edit: I figured it out. A reboot was required to have client.exe start its uptimer

When I worked for IBM I worked in a large oil refiner and distributor's computer center and the console operator would complain of the big mainframe crashing every time he moved on his chair. Needless to say they did not meet critical deadlines due to restarts and the management was pi$$ed at the operators and IBM I devised a hardware fix that would detect this hang and auto re-IPL (reboot) the system reducing the time to recover from 1-2 hours to 1/2 hour

My older AMD system started doing this when the floppy drive decided to die so I disabled it in the BIOS and have not missed the floppy since

I have my check set for once a week which is the default and there is no application nor memory allocated for the program. The way it works, I believe, is that at the prescribed time the check for the update is done and if an update is required then either the user is informed or the update is applied.

I can't locate the show on my local PBS channel but I will keep looking for it. I remember 9/11 well as I was picking up a coffee at a local coffee shop shortly after 9:00am and the shop manager came in and was very distressed and informed the patrons about the tragedy. We all thought it was just a tragic accident. I went home and turned on the TV and was transfixed by the events and became horified when the second plane smashed through the next tower. I then realized that it was not an accident and could not comprehend why this was happening I watched it most of the day as I was off work at the time
