  1. Secure deletion is only for the extremely paranoid or works for a terrorist organization, mafia, Chinese hacker trying to gain access to foreign government networks or afraid that your significant other will check your computer for your visit to shady sites and conversations with your lovers. Secure deletion is a silly option and should be removed from CCleaner and for the extremely paranoid Eraser can be used but if the NSA wants your hard drive to find what you had on it then they can find any deleted data.
  2. If you have IE open then CCleaner can't clean out those files as they are in use. Try closing IE then running CCleaner.
  3. index.dat files are special Windows files and never will be deleted as Windows will recreate them after a reboot. I use Index.dat Suite to clean the index.dat files and I use its ability to defrag the hard drive upon reboot while there are no active applications running that can slow down the defrag process. After running Index.dat Suite then insuring the Setup is set to the way I want I start the reboot then go get a cup of coffee and turn on the TV to the CBC news channel and peek over at the monitor to see when the defrag has finished.
  4. I don't believe CCleaner supports double byte character operating systems yet.
  5. I use CCleaner on my WinXP Home SP2 systems and have no problems with Add/Remove Programs appearance. What is the operating system and its version that you are seeing the problem on?
  6. You can add your own Folders to be cleaned in Options then Include.
  7. Windows has the index.dat files open and in use and so can not be cleaned and can only be cleaned on a reboot.
  8. Yahoo maybe the most visited site on the web but it also deposits tracking cookies to recover their pay-per-click advertising money just the same as Google but that is what makes it free I have all Yahoo sites blocked in my HOSTS file to help stop these cookies depositing themselves on my system. I do look at news.yahoo.com occasionally but I run CCleaner right after to clean out their cookies. I use the Google Toolbar because I like its pop up blocker and I also use McAfee SiteAdvisor to warn me of potential harmful sites: http://www.siteadvisor.com There is version of SiteAdvisor available for Firefox as well.
  9. Way back in 2000 I nievely installed lots of freeware and immediately noticed tons of pop ups, pop unders pop sideways and CONSTANT activity on my then dial-up modem Shortly after that I discovered Ad-aware then SpyBot S&D that removed or disabled a lot of the infections Now I'm on high-speed DSL and run WinPatrol PLUS!, Windows Defender, SiteAdvisor, AVG Free and hpHOSTS plus MVPS HOSTS files I'm a Mod at Calendar of Updates and a frequent contributor to SiteAdvisor bad site listings, CCleaner forum and hpHOSTS file entries
  10. The Beatles at Maple Leaf Gardens back in the late '60s. The Rolling Stones twice at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto along with 10,000+ other fans back in the late '70s and '80s if I remember correctly. Fleetwood Mac at Exhibition Stadium along with 60,000+ other fans in the early '80s. The Tubes at Massy Hall along with 6,000 other fans in the late '70s. 11. I like Shakira and her Hips don't lie
  12. TheFiresInTheSky, your avitar appears blank for me and m.pimpmyspace.org is not a valid Web site address but http://www.pimpmyspace.org is. GeekStop Spot is a new forum that is run by an industrious 15 year old I have joined and help out where I can.
  13. I'm using AVG Free v7.5 on my P4 WinXP Home SP2 system: avgamsvr.exe (real time protection or resident shield) 640 KB avgcc.exe (control center) 840 KB avgupsvc.exe (updates) 968 KB No email scanning as it is a waste of system resources and useless because the active scanner would find whatever malware and quarentine it detects on my system. http://www.yorkspace.com/pc-de-crapifier

    Maxthon 2

Firefox... to me is a browser for kiddies that like cute pics and the red Fox that is holding on to the Earth for dear life. I have not tried Maxthon but I have made my Menu bar reside at the top of IE7 where I like it with a .reg fix from SnapFiles Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser]"ITBar7Position"=dword:00000001 www.snapfiles.com
  15. That's correct but if the case fans have sensors then SpeedFan can control them as well if you set it up to do so. The program author can provide more information about the sensors that SpeedFan can monitor.
  16. The files with names like ~DF1B68.tmp are in use by Windows and can't be cleaned.
  17. I remember seeing it quite a while back and I liked it then and I like it now Mine as well

Select the cookies on the left to delete then move them to the right -> Cookies to keep
  20. SpeedFan has an Automatic fan speed mode That's the temperature my CPU is running at. I would make sure that all air vents both intake and exhaust are unencumbered and that the system unit runs in an air conditioned space with the ambient temperature that is no higher than 75F and close to the air conditioner vent to supply the system with lots of cool air.
  21. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php You could use SpeedFan to monitor the CPU temperature while you have the side fan disconnected and you use the system in normal daily use. SpeedFan has a nice Chart function that show the temperature history.
  22. Why not set your home page to Calendar of Updates then you will always go their first
  23. I am going to ask McAfee SiteAdvisor to remove the detection flag as Spyware Terminator has been proven that its OK. Edit: There have been many requests for Spyware Terminator to be re-rated as Good but McAfee is slow in doing it.
