  1. cheers Andavari and lotse although i tried it lotse and it didn't work. However im not that bothered as i know that PCTools firewall and AntiVir are working. What i have done now is just go on services and disabled the security center as i don't really need it anyway.
  2. Well im getting a weird issue where my security center isn't even picking up that i have PCTools firewall on and instead is warning me that i currently have no firewall on even though it is on. So it made me wonder if it is the firewall playing up but yesterday the security center started to say that i didn't have any anti virus software on there either lol, but this happened after i updated the AntiVir to there latest version with the rook kit detector on it. Does anyone have any ideas what the hell is happening

I am not using PPPoE i am using PPPoA and i have read on some forums that you can raise it to that level with PPPoA. Whether if that is corret or not does not really bother me as it has done no harm
  4. Have you tried using a different browser like firefox etc; to check if it is specifically an issue/bug with IE7

lol that was very funny Personally i find DrTCP to be better as TCP Optimizer cased fluctuation's with my download speed. Once you have DrTCP use this site to configure the settings http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/tweak2.htm or http://www.dslreports.com/tools but make the MTU 1500
  6. Well to be honest that is very true but this should not do any harm to your computer at all, as you are not messing around with any other settings and i would advise you not to either. However if you are still unsure then create a restore point before hand so that if anything does go wrong (even though it shouldn't) you can restore it to its previous state Yes i live in the UK too but im not really in the mood for sleep at the moment ~.~
  7. Now look here you are not a dunce far from it Okay now navigate your way back to the same location in registry HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced Once there right click and select new and then DWORD value. You need to name it Start_ShowRun. Double click on Start_ShowRun and a window will pop up with the title Edit DWORD value. The value name should be: Start_ShowRun Value data should be: 1 And the base should be decimal Like the pic below. Once you have done that reboot the computer and hopefully it should be there
  8. I didn't think that you would hehe Do you know how to add Start_ShowRun registry value? Oh and are you using XP home edition or XP Pro
  9. That is alright funky i am not all that great with computers either sometimes ~.~ If i was you i would get Hijackthis and post your log on the piriform forum http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showforum=12 They will be able to help you more if there are still any nasties on you computer. To get onto your registry go to start~all programs~Accessories~Command Prompt After that a window should pop up; this is the command prompt. Type regedit or regedit.exe A new window should pop up. Follow the steps below to get to the registry value Start_ShowRun HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Start_ShowRun Start_ShowRun should have the value 1 like the pic below.
  10. Can you not add the registry value which i think is HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Start_ShowRun and give it a value of 1 Well i think that's what it is but im not sure ~.~ Or as you are unable to use run i think that you can get onto the registry by creating a bat file or by using command prompt Have you tried doing a virus/malware scan as that may be the problem and have you doubled checked that you are the system admin by going onto user accounts?
  11. yes lol i suppose so although i sometimes get the feeling that my brainpower has peaked at 18 Well done Andavari Very true
  12. I see your point, but thinking about it wouldn't someone of an older age be able to preform better at the test then someone who is younger; like for example who would you say would do better, a 34 year old or a 14 year old. It all comes down to the fact that you need to be able to understand the question that they are asking you and how fast your brain is able to work it out This shows that as Andavari has gotten older his IQ has also increased meaning that he is able to preform better when taking the IQ test
  13. Okay i said further up that i was using ZoneAlarm but i have now un-installed it and re-installed Norton as ZoneAlarm was causing me to lag badly on servers when playing Counter Strike and i couldn't take it any longer but other than that it was a great product I used PCTools firewall and liked it but as i said in one of my posts it failed the stealth test for me
  14. Is see that none of you put your age down when saying your score as how old you are does make a difference Mine was 119 with 43 secs to go but that i because i take my time with most things as i like to get it as right as possible and it seems right to me.
  15. Yeah i see your point as some AV are not that keen on programs that monitor or keep records of passwords and that is why i said that it may have been i false positive. I was in no way saying that it was a virus infected program i was merely pointing it out. I am just sometime over cautious and since you have told me that it is fine Anthony A then i hope that every one will ignore my previous post and enjoy the program.
  16. I scanned it with virus total and Sunbelt says that there is a suspicious file on it so I think that I will give it a miss. Although it could be a false positive
  17. Why was there uproar about downloading this so called up date, is it because of the fact that people have illegal copies. I for one have downloaded it because it doesn't bother me to allow it to check if it is genuine or not.
  18. Ah right cheers rridgely, i am using ZoneAlarms free one at the moment and it seems to be doing a good job. i am already using antivir and i must admit that i rather like it so it will be one to keep on the old system. Has anyone else used this firewall and if so would you also rate it as Francisco did. I haven't heard for it before and if it is good then i would give it a go.
  19. I thought that i would say that i have now un-installed Norton as yesterday it decided that it would be an arse and not work. I was wondering what full security suite (paid one of course) would be best to get as there are quite a few of them.
  20. Yeah of course they don't care about what we think as they will always sell a lot of copies of there software and everyone seems to slag Norton off but it still hasn't stopped me from using it Doesn't McAfee get American government founding into developing there software or was that just some rummer that i heard? If you think about it a lot of people really give Microsoft a slatting about there software but i doubt if they give two monkeys also and how many of the users that visit CCleaner forums use Microsoft, i would say that the vast majority do.
  21. Well i never meant to play on grand theft for that long but it got to the stage where i would say, "well i finish this level first or ill finish doing this.....etc.." so before i know it i was on there for way to long and something that nobody should do. Oh and i also find it very additive yes i find with games on the PC that is a very important thing to look out for and can really hurt your eyes if there's a constant jittering that you can only just notice. Andavari i love final Fantasy it is my most favourite type of games of all time and i shall always continue to buy them and play them even on my death bed FF9 is in my opinion the best of all.
  22. i hope that they don't as it will mean a new type of computer nerd/geek (i don't like using that term) will most likely say how great Google operating system is compared to windows or Linux instead of how they at the moment compare windows to Linux and how great Linux is and how much they are in love with it and all that other crap......etcetera. I hope that i have not offended anyone by saying that and i mean nothing by it I'm just fed up of people saying that in my computer course. I found that when i installed Comodo for the first time that it didn't allow me access to the internet even though i had told it too, so i un-installed it and then re-installed it and it did the trick for me.
  23. lol once again using a new buzz word to reel in more profits although like you said earlier it is still a good firewall to use. That explains why you do not use either the antispam or IM shield as you mainly use gmail and yahoo. i don't have a gmail account although i have heard a lot of people rate it highly and one of my college teachers showed me the Google analytic products and it was very impressive. I don't know if it is true but are Google thinking of making an operating system or is it just a pack of lies . Yes i would like to see that post making fun out of ZoneAlarm although don't go and bust a gut trying to look for it.
  24. This is what my desktop looks like. Enjoy
  25. lol Yeah it was CNET editors' review http://reviews.cnet.com/ZoneAlarm_Internet...7-32309439.html that made me consider of purchasing the product and it also apparently offers three way firewall protection and is lighter on the old resources. I'm guessing that this will hopefully fix the start up speed then and i know that a slow start up speed can be very frustrating. No i do not leave my pc on 24/7 although i have heard that this can actually be a good thing to do but i don't know what you think about that rridgely. However saying that i am on this computer a lot when on my college holidays but not quite 24/7 So why is it that you did not use ZoneAlarms antispam or IM shield, is it becouse you have better ones and if so what are they?
