digiraiter
hii'm want to tell you a short storyi wanted to wipe one of my drives from sensitive filesso i delete them, then tried to wipe free spacei went to toolsi make myself sure that option is "wipe free space"then i scrolled down the mouse for drivesthe drives wouldn't scroll downi clicked and tried againthis time it workedthen i choosed the drivethen clicked wipei don't know you noticed or notbut first scroll applied to method of wipefrom free space to entire diskand as a hobby my hand moved before i even thinkand i Entered the ERASE wordas a hobby just like when you press Ctrl+S without you understand when to save your fileand i wiped my entire drive actually i didn't realized what i have done until the process was over i fount my drive empty and i figure it out why later100 GB gone for good, mostly only moviesbut in same time my 3D character that i worked entire summer on itand some movie that i recorded on tv and edited very preciselyi always liked CCleaner for functionalitybut now i think it's a bit dangerous if i can't control itso if you please change that part of software i'll be appreciateyou can insert a much harder lvl for wiping entire driveor you can forget it,and delete it from software, i think it's totally okif someone wanted to wipe a drive he can format itmost users understand format matters moreand usually you're not going to format window easilythen CCleaner can wipe the free space to complet format taski'm looking forward for a change in next versionthank you
Moderators Nergal Posted October 26, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 26, 2014 Wait, after you typed erase it wiped out the entire drive, am I reading this correctly? If so it's not an interface issue, you explicitly stated to the program that you understood what was happening by typing ERASE; that's why it asks you to type something instead of just a yes no box (such as that most would "unknowingly" click yes). Typing out a whole word should've been enough to make you realize that this was a foolish "hobby" and as far as your story plays out more blocks in the way that would "insert a much harder level for wiping entire drive" would have just led to you carrying out your "hobby" further and result the same exact thread as this with a slightly longer story attached. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Moderators Andavari Posted October 27, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 27, 2014 Wipe Free Space in 'Options > Settings' doesn't have the destructive functionality described. I think you instead went into 'Tools > Drive Wiper' and selected Wipe 'Entire Drive (All data will be erased)'. When in doubt ask about something on the forums to understand what it will do before committing to it and being sorry later.
