Warlock
Hello All, Hope you had a nice holiday. Well I jumped the gun and put both feet in my mouth in post of May 29, 2010 essentially stating all was working fine. Yesterday I went to perform a sweep, Analyze then Run Cleaner. When done there was still exactly 25,472KB in temporary files undone. So I re-ran the cleaner and it read zero. I ran another sweep today and it left exactly 37,089KB undone so I repeated as above. I noticed while it is cleaning, the little wheel spinning, it says something about Plug-ins. I probably should mention that I occasionally go to the Registry Integrity option, the little blue blocks and run it and if there are issues I have them fixed. I checked today and there were no issues. Could it be a problems with the Plug-ins I have with my Firefox? This is driving me nuts. One day all is perfect, a few days later, problem. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated. Have a good day. Warlock If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain. Warlock
Is 24 hours un checked? Hi Ident, Thank you for the reply. Before writing this I went through every section of the CCleaner screen on the left hand side and could not find any reference to the 24 hour that you mentioned. I'm a Newbie and really struggling with this program and forum. Could you please explain in the simplest terms what you are referring to and how to find the block you are referring to? Like go to this, then that, etc. Thanks so much I really appreciate you. Warlock If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain. It was good to hear from my new friend. I'm really struggling with this CCleaner and forum I should mention up front. Before writing this I opened up the screen and looked in all the sections provided to the left to see if I could find something that resembled your response but have no idea where to start. Could you lay it out in simplest terms and in steps to go through explaining in detail what you want me to do? Thanks so much and sorry to be so uninformed. Warlock Dear Nergal, I forgot to thank you in my post a few minutes ago for your advice on the registry cleaner. I will certainly follow your recommendations. I'm overboard about security, protection and things running smoothly. LOL Thanks and take care. Warlock If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain. Warlock Exit Firefox Task Manager is a Windows program. Right click on your taskbar (the start bar at the bottom of the window, where the programs that are running are listed). Depending on your Operating system you'll see a menu item "Task Manager" (Windows XP) or "Start Task Manager" (Vista, Windows 7). Choose that. The window that opens will have multiple tabs. Click the One labeled "processes" Click the Heading "image Name" so that it arranges the list in alphabetical order. scroll down and see if you see the words "firefox.exe" If you do this is why the Firefox is not cleaning (it is not fully exiting when you exit) Highlight any firefox.exe and click the "end Process" button (you'll have to do this one by one if there are more than one listed). Try cleaning. Don't worry about being new we all were new once. And all of us still have questions about things. Also can you do us a favor and go into the cleaner options. Go to the advanced button and click (so there is a checkmark) in "save all settings to ini file" Exit CCleaner then open the folder c:\program files\ccleaner and attach the ccleaner.ini file to a reply in this thread ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Moderators DennisD Posted June 5, 2010 Moderators Share Posted June 5, 2010 If there's a suspicion that it may be a FF plug-in causing this, try disabling all the plug-ins, and then run Firefox for a while, close it down and run CCleaner. "Firefox\Tools\Add-Ons\Plugins". Right click and select "disable". Then reboot Firefox. If it is a Firefox plug-in causing the issue, then it shouldn't raise it's head in CCleaner with all of them disabled. Then enable the plug-ins you have one at a time, running Firefox again for a while, and then repeat the "close down FF, run CCleaner" thing, and then enable another plug-in and repeat. You'll hopefully find the guilty item this way, although it's a pain in the backside to do, and takes time. I thought of suggesting that you run Firefox in Safe Mode, which disables Themes and Extensions, but not all plug-ins unfortunately. "Start\All Programs\Mozilla Firefox\Mozilla Firefox (Safe mode)" I mention the how to, in case it's something new to you, and it can be very handy for eliminating issues with extensions.
