Moderators hazelnut Posted March 1, 2008 Moderators Share Posted March 1, 2008 Quite a few on here I know use this software so will be interested in this thread http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=201699 Looking at the picture of the boy and realising his age (you'll see what I mean) may make some question as to whether they want to keep using it. login123
Thank you for the warning. Eraser version 5.84 32 bit has worked here (Win XP home) w/ no problems for quite a while. This version still available at: http://www.onlyfreewares.com/Utilities/Enc...rity/Eraser.php I just downloaded it and compared the exe file with the one I am using and it seems exactly the same. The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-) Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers. CTskifreak
I love how they mention CCleaner -- more publicity for us! LOL AJ
Moderators DennisD Posted March 2, 2008 Moderators Share Posted March 2, 2008 Thanks for the heads up Hazel, and for the link login. I've never used this application, but in case I ever need to, now is definitely the time to get a reliable version.
JDPower
Thank you for the warning. Eraser version 5.84 32 bit has worked here (Win XP home) w/ no problems for quite a while. This version still available at: http://www.onlyfreewares.com/Utilities/Enc...rity/Eraser.php I stayed at version 5.7 after 5.8 trashed my OS and they failed to do any kind of investigation when I posted about it on their forum. Incidentally that message has also been posted, and replied to, on the Eraser forum itself: http://bbs.heidi.ie/viewtopic.php?t=4302&a...&highlight=
CeeCee
I have used only version 5.7. I have wiped unused space with it a couple times and haven't noticed any problems after doing so. Path Copy TeraCopy Unlocker
Moderators DennisD Posted March 2, 2008 Moderators Share Posted March 2, 2008 On this one I think I'll go with flow, and go with Eraser 5.7. Link:

You really shouldn't jeopardize your system integrity with a software that's just been taken over by an unknown entity, especially after reading some of his replies in that other forum I would avoid it. Maybe later on his coding may perhaps become trusted, etc. There's other freeware floating about that can wipe the freespace of HDD's.
JDPower
There's other freeware floating about that can wipe the freespace of HDD's. Or just stick to an older version. I've stuck with version 5.7 after briefly trying 5.8 a few months after it came out and finding it buggy and any software that trashes my OS doesn't get a second chance. Moderators Andavari Posted March 31, 2008 Moderators Share Posted March 31, 2008 any software that trashes my OS doesn't get a second chance. I remember when you posted about that, and like you I also wouldn't use a software that destroyed my Windows installation.

Wellgo
Have used Eraser for a number of years and for the most part without problems. My last clean however indicated that Systems Restore or Volume Shadow "may have" not allowed Eraser to complete the job. Can't find anywhere on the Eraser website where I can get an answer to this and if in fact Systems Restore should be turned off prior to using Eraser. Any ideas?? Moderators Augeas Posted November 13, 2017 Moderators Share Posted November 13, 2017 Well, you could post on the Eraser forum. This is a nigh-on ten year old thread on another manufacturer's forum that, to be blunt, really has no relevance to your problem.
