Eli Posted September 11, 2008 Share Posted September 11, 2008 Hi I know that ctfmon.exe file`s function is related to M.Office, the thing I miss here is why are so many people against this file being at start up and of course in the background( it only takes up to 5MB ram while in the background!!!) Thanks Eli Hi Eli, Every little bit counts when you are counting sheep and RAM. 5 MB a couple times can make some of my apps run a lot faster or vice-versa. Ctfmon is turned off on my PC. Doesn't ctfmon.exe basically re-create itself each time you reboot? I tried disabling it in my startup items, but it seems to keep coming back. Both CeeCee and Hazelnut are correct, you need to disable it first from that PCHell links instructions. I already had it disabled, however I'd think xpAntiSpy would be able to do it auto-magically without manually doing anything since is replaces it with a dummy file and removes the startup. I merely created that CCleaner winapp2.ini entry in the event I repair MS Office and it places that damned file back in the registries startup Run area. The prior version didn't even have a "Tweaks" section in it. One other thing . . . will disabling cftmon.exe have any affect on the normal function of MS Office? In our English builds of it I'd have to say no to the best of my knowledge, I don't however know what it would do if someone had another lang enabled. I certainly haven't had any issues whatsoever and I've had it disabled for over two years now. To add some more look at that xp-AntiSpy screenshot and read the text that it shows, if you have it installed you can view the whole text info in it to see what the xp-AntiSpy author has to say about it. To confirm what you expected might be the case, it appears that it disabled it without having to go through the steps that CeeCee mentioned.
