Cleaner & Issues not working with Vista

Recommended Posts

When I run the cleaner it says there are 1.23mB of files to be deleted. I run the cleaner and it says it has deleted 134 bytes and displays 3 items. However, if I run the cleaner again, it shows the same 123mB of files to be removed.

When I scan for issues, I get 62 issues. I select "Fix all issues". The dialog box says it fixed 62 of 62 issues. I select "Close" and the screen is clear of issues. However, if I scan for issues again, it shows 60 of the 62 are still there. Further scans and fixes have no effect.

I read on the FAQ's here that CCleaner was fully checked out for Vista, which is my operating system

"What operating systems does CCleaner work with?

Fully tried and tested with Windows 95/98/NT4/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista.

It's currently partially compatible with 64bit Windows XP, there are a few non-critical issues which are still being worked on.

There are no Mac or Linux versions."

I read elsewhere in this forum that the problem can be fixed with a program called "Dial-A-Fix". Unfortunately, "Dial-A-Fix" does not run on Vista. Either in normal mode or safe mode through the command prompt window.

Can someone give me a hand to get CCleaner working on my Vista machine.

You could try right-clicking on the CCleaner icon and using "Run as Administrator"

I don't know what files it's trying to delete, but I don't have that problem running CCleaner on my Vista machine. But I always "Run as Administrator" ;)

Thanx JRd1st! I was having the same issues as FrankU until I tried your suggestion. My wife and I absolutely love CCleaner and were disappointed to run across this bug when it has run flawlessly for us until now.

Thanks JRd1st that took care of the problem. I wonder why the CCleaner crew didn't mention that.

CCleaner Issues lists 39 "Issues" in fix window - erases all issues - re-scan same issues return ad infinitum - and YES I am logged in as administrator. Perhaps most people think this program actually accomplishes its intended purpose in Issues and don't re-check results. Hope they fix this one. :(

Some registry keys can't even be removed by an admin if the registry key has restricted permissions. Just look up on this forum or elsewhere how to manually reset the permissions on registry keys that won't remove.

Right, and some registry keys get re-created automatically.

BUT, if CCleaner can't remove a key, shouldn't it indicate that instead of showing the key deleted?

v1.40.520

I recently started using Vista and CCleaner runs much slower on Vista than it did on the same hardware running XP. I'm refering to the 'Analyze' task...on XP it took a fraction of a second, maybe a second at most. On Vista it's taking like 10-20 seconds to complete.

I'm also experiencing a similar issue as the topic starter had where it reports like ~2GB of files to be cleaned. It does clean for a while but when it finishes it reports something crazy like 29MB was cleaned. I think it's most likely cleaning good but just not reporting the correct amount cleaned in the report. I've already tried running it as Administrator after reading this thread a few days ago, it doesn't remedy either of these issues.

Thanks.

v1.40.520

Another problem I'm noticing with CCleaner on Vista is if CCleaner has been open for a while, just idle in the taskbar, it can 'Analyze' fine but if I click 'Run Cleaner' it will crash after about a second. It's done this a few times. When I re-open CCleaner it's fine again. It seems to happen when the process has been alive for some time before cleaning. I'm running it as administrator every time.

Thanks.

Hello, hve similar problem under Vista Home Premium but nothing is different whether I?m work as Admin (right click on Icon) or not.

Hve checked both the 139.0.502 and 140.0.520 Version of the Cleaner.

First prove tt anything went wrong is immy after installation. Whilst check has been set for both, "icon on desk top" and "entry in start program" both do not showing up. But i can find the installation under program and start CCleaner. I try to start w/ Internet Explorer and result is as descibed by other users above: Data will be analysed and after run, confirmation is given tt they has been deleted.

But when i open the browser i still find the history data and also cookies and Temp. Internet Files are still there.

Any idea how to fix or should i better wait for next version ? It`s easy to delete this data under Windows Internet options. Unless this problem is fixed i of course will not use the CCleaner for other items like "Windows Explorer" and "System".

Thks in advance for yr help.
